Car accident & worker's compensation

Yesterday afternoon, while on the job, I was involved in a car accident. I was crossing an intersection when a car ran a red light and slammed into my front passenger side. My car went into a telephone pole. Thankfully there were no serious injuries to either parties however both cars were totaled. Witnesses called the police and a police report was filed. The investigator took the statement of one witness who watched the other car run the red light and hit me. I have a few questions about what happens next to make sure I am taking the right steps. Pregnant and Uninsured in the US -- help!

I am not irresponsible! I am a US Citizen who lives in a European country, where I am on state health insurance. We are back in the US for three months, and have temporary, emergency health insurance here. (We are not eligible, as non US residents, for ACA insurance.) I find myself unexpectedly but happily pregnant, with a few more months in the US to go before we return. How do I get prenatal care? [more inside]

Should I fill a prescription in my own name, intended for my mom?

My mother is retired and disabled, on a fixed income. Every single year she hits the coverage gap (the "donut hole") on her medications, usually by September or October. This leads to the last three months of the year being a scramble of asking for free samples of her diabetic medications from her endocrinologist, and scraping to get by. At her last visit, her doctor straight-up offered to write the prescriptions in my name. My insurance would cover it with a simple copay and no coverage gap. Should I do this? [more inside]

Employment Insurance in Ontario

Hi. I have a question about how employment insurance works in Ontario. I read through the government of Ontario's webpage, but some things were unclear and I was hoping to get some clarity here. (If there's a better place to post this, please let me know!) I currently work as an actuarial student. In this context, student means that I'm still progressing through exams - I'm actually in my late 20's and well out of university. My job requires that I pass a series of exams. If I fail to pass an exam at least once every 18 months, I'll be fired. I'm writing an exam at the end of April and if I fail, I will meet the condition where the company can fire me. My question is - would I qualify for employment insurance payments if that were to happen?

Not-My-Fault Car Accident, How to Handle Insurance?

I was rear-ended last night - at a complete stop waiting for a light; the car behind me was going about 40mph when it hit us. Called the cops, called my insurance, it is completely the other driver's fault. My insurance said I can either have the other driver's insurance (Traveler's) handle my claim, or I can pay my $500 deductible and have my insurance handle the claim (repairs, rental car, etc.) with the knowledge that they may not be able to recover my deductible. Seeing two physical therapists at once - is it OK?

I've been seeing a PT for 3 months who is covered entirely by insurance. They provide ultrasound, etc., but not much else. I want to see another PT to get better treatment and pay out of pocket. Would it be OK to continue seeing the insurance-covered PT for ultrasound and e-stem once a week and pay out of pocket to go to the other PT once a week? Would my insurance company frown on this if they found out?

Can I buy health insurance for someone without their cooperation?

I have a sister in law who has no health insurance. She is fiercely independent. I can easily afford to pay for health insurance for her. She is refusing to let me. My concern is, if she had a serious health issue, we would be on the hook for paying for her treatment. Not legally, but she is family and we just would pay for her to get good treatment. I want to insure myself against this potentially huge expense even if she doesn't want to. Is there any way to do this?

Home car salvage: "Totalled" old car, liability only insurance.

I was in an accident in a common mid-90s sports car. Summary: Body work, broken front axle. Because of the age and damage, the insurance will likely declare the car "totaled". My insurance will likely have to pay for repairs to the other car involved. I have liability only insurance, so they're not going to pay me anything regardless. No one was injured. Does my insurance need to care about my car, if it is liability only insurance, besides assessing for "fault"? One of my family members would like to repair the car. Assuming (he has done this kind of thing before, parts are plentiful, and time is not an issue) that he can make it safely drivable again, what do I need to do to make it legally drivable again? Is there anything I can do now to make it easier to get the car on the road in the future? I'm in northern Virginia.

Can and/or should I make a car insurance claim — or not?

Our relatively young car (~1 yr) has collected a bit of damage over the past year. One bit of damage is a dent which is starting to rust, so it needs to be dealt with in a body shop. The dent was not our fault, but the result of a parking gate that closed early. We also scratched the car elsewhere in a few places. Those scratches are substantial and our fault, and they also require professional work. We would like to know if making an insurance claim is an option or if we must (or should) pay on our own. Insurance help with Medicare/SSDI

When my parent died, they had a pension/insurance policy from their government job which was meant to pay out half to me and half to my grandmother. The problem is I am afraid my grandmother (who is old and sick and getting regular medical treatment) shouldn't accept the payout because she's on Medicare/SSDI and can't have an income. I remember getting a 1099 for my half, so it is definitely considered income. I have no idea what to do or where to go for help about this. I am in New York City, although this concerns the state pension system. [more inside]

FL Homeowner's Insurance 90 days after the closing...is it possible

Through a paperwork SNAFU, we failed to secure homeowners insurance at closing on the house we purchased (with cash, no mortgage) in Florida 78 days ago. Help with pain and suffering on uninsured motorist claim (motorcycle)
