Do I need to sign up for ACA for a few weeks to avoid penalty?

ACA penalty question. There is a 99% likelihood that I am about to be hired by a company that will provide me health coverage beginning on April 7th. I have not been given a formal offer, but I have been given verbal assurance, and I have every reason to believe I will receive an offer next week. The ACA deadline is March 31st. Do I need to sign up for ACA to cover the week between March 31 and April 7 in order to avoid paying a penalty? [more inside]

The ball's in my court (I think). Now what?

I have been halfheartedly looking for a new job. My current position does not leave me much time or energy for searching, plus I have had a lot of illness in my family in the last year, which is time-consuming and emotionally draining. When a supplier I work with mentioned that someone in her company had left recently, I asked her whether she plans to replace him, and she said she does. I emailed her my résumé, and she sent me the job listing. In her email, she asked me whether I was interested, and if not, to let her know what my concerns are so they could address them because "your résumé is great!" How do I respond in the most effective manner? [more inside]

Where is Flo when I need her cheery optimism???

I'm in the open enrollment period (also newly married) and am considering switching health insurance -- for the first time ever. I understand the fill-out-the-forms part, but I can't wrap my head around what that means logistically. What's the process? What should I look out for? [more inside]

Mental Health History Confessions

I'm going for a pre-employment medical in a few days (to test whether there's a risk that a health issue will prevent me from doing my job in the next 3 years). The form wants me to put down whether I've ever suffered from depression or anxiety. What's the threshold for a "yes" answer? [more inside]

Need minor surgery but I'm just about to change jobs (and health plans). Disaster?

I have a small health issue which will probably require minor surgery. Pretty routine and low-risk kind of thing. I'm employed and have a good health plan through my job. But here's the problem: I might be changing jobs (and therefore health plans) very soon. Will this create problems getting the procedure paid for? [more inside]

Employee Benefits

Is there an easy way to find out what companies provide their employees with a pension and medical benefits after a certain period of time working there? I am looking for a centralized list or such that would tell me all those companies that are local-as I want to look at working at a company like that. A centralized list probably doesn't exist. How do you find out if there isn't a centralized place?

Objective information sites about heart disease?

OK, guys, the smartass has been humbled. Last weekend I experienced what should have been a mildly stressful event for the average person. However, I have fairly advanced heart disease, and the anxiety put me in the emergency room with chest pains and arrhythmia despite my normal meds and my emergency tranquilizers.

The time has come for me to seriously consider disability, as totally distasteful as I find that. Does anyone know of some objective information sites, particularly regarding how to document my condition, beyond the basic primers that Google coughs up? ( Yes, I am pursuing this through my doctor, but I want a 'second opinion'. ;-P )
