My mother is planning on buying Mortguage Insurance, through a credit source. Do these types (loss of employment, illness or such) plans work or; is there fine print that the company is able to option out legally. As I have never met a person with these credit insurances paying off for during hardship.

My job is scheduled for termination at the end of the month. My wife is pregnant and could possibly be placed on bedrest about the same time. If I apply for FMLA before my termination date, would my employer have to honor my claim? My employer is unaware of the pregnancy AND I'm only speculating that bedrest could be ordered. [more inside]

2 part question:
1) We found a mushroom in the bathroom this morning. I crawled into the crawlspace and pulled down the insulation and the subflooring (?) is all wet. I know I need to call someone but is it a plumber, a handyman or a hazmat team? Everything I have read (including this) just say "call a professional".
2) Is this something which I should file a homeowners insurance claim on (AllState)? My wife thinks that doing that will just make our rates go up and eventually cause us to get blacklisted by the insurance company. I think that I have insurance for just such an occasion.
And yes, I am totally freaked out and disgusted by this and worried that it explains why my son and I both wake up with headaches and congestion every morning.

I've got a vehicle whose title is in the process of being transferred to me. I've got to do the reregistration by mail from Oregon to California. I've had an offer on the vehicle. The potential purchasers say a bill of sale and them putting the vehicle on their insurance is sufficient to let them drive legally. They also mentioned a temporary registration, which I've never heard of. Is this a bad idea, or a practical one to get the car sold now. [more inside]

I'm a male in my mid-twenties, active, and have been for the most part healthy. A few months ago I started getting some strange symptoms, and pain in one of my testicles. I was uninsured so I went to the doctor anonymously and paid cash. His thoughts were it was probably just a standard infection, and gave me some antibiotics and told me to come back if the pain persisted. Around that time I also went to an anonymous city clinic to see if it could be an STD and everything up until then checked out OK. There was a test *Syphilis that I hadn't called back on for results, I did so today and they said the test was negative as well, but there was "something else was going on".. Apparently, the second part of the Syphilis test showed them this. I also asked again about the STD related stuff and they said all that was fine. [more inside]

Health insurance for someone taking a break from college? My girlfriend is taking a few months off from college and so won't be eligible for her parents' health insurance. She doesn't have a job that provides benefits, either. She's in her early 20s and is pretty healthy, but has really awful luck when it comes to random health issues popping up and so it would be a good idea for her to have insurance in the next few months. She's off her parents' policy in the next week or two. What can she do? Would COBRA apply in this case? What other temporary insurance providers are there?
