Who Offers Non-Owner Car Insurance in DC?

We are urban homeowners who don't own a car, relying on various car sharing services around town. But we travel, and when we travel we often rent cars. Every time we rent cars, we end up having to pay $15/day for liability insurance. How can we become insured drivers without owning a car? [more inside]

Will admitting fault void my LDW on a rental car?

Returned a rental car recently, had some damage in a crowded parking garage. Seems like the rental agent was trying to get me not to admit fault, but I was dumb and did so. Can they void my LDW by saying it was "reckless"? I'm worried: only light body damage, but will be hella expensive, plus downtime charges, if I'm on the hook.

Do I need a waiver form for small bicycle race?

I am gonna host a bicycle race on some pasture that I own. The first edition will only involve 6-12 persons, but if it is fun (it will be), I'd like to expand/make it a regular (monthly or quarterly event). Do I need a waiver form for participants to sign, do you think? Is this kind of form easy to generate/find? This is in Kansas. I have homeowners and farm insurance. YANML.

Was rear-ended last week and my car is damaged. Insurance questions

I was rear-ended on the highway last week while sitting in traffic. Neither myself nor the other driver was injured but there was damage to my car. The other driver and his insurer (State Farm) have accepted full responsibility without question, as I was stopped and he hit me. There was no police report. I haven't had to involve my insurance as I wasn't at fault (per myself, per the other driver and now also per his insurer). [more inside]

Rock Chip Repair Stand VS Personal Information

On the spur of the moment, I swung my car by one of those Free Rock Chip Repair stands in a mall parking lot. Part of the process was taking a phone call from a rep from the Rock Chip company, who had to run my insurance to see if it could be covered. He said that he needed my date of birth and the last 4 digits of my SSN (in addition to my address, phone number, email address, insurance info, etc), or he couldn't check my coverage. I was wary, but gave it to him. Should I have not? [more inside]

Fire in apartment below--rebuilding/insurance questions

[Asking for a friend] My building had a fire last night, on the floor below mine. I have middling fire damage at baseboard level in both bedrooms, both of which will be uninhabitable until the damage is ripped out and redone. All my windows are broken and glass is everywhere, but aside from the above stuff and the overwhelming odor of smoke and my broken-down front door, there is no other (water or fire or smoke stain) damage to the apartment. This is in NYC, and I have no renter's insurance. [more inside]

Are there any good no-fee HSA providers?

We'd like to adopt a dog, but are confused about the possible effect on our homeowner's insurance, and would love some input. What exactly does "laboratory services" mean on an EOB?

I had blood work done recently. The lab results show five tests, two of which are on the list of free preventative services, implying (at least to me) that I probably shouldn't be paying for them. The EOB from the insurance company lists five items, three of which are describing matching the lab results and the last two are just "laboratory services". Are these actual lab costs or are they hiding the HIV and syphilis tests? [more inside]

How to Force a Doctor to Fix a Billing Mistake

Two months ago I went to a new doctor for my yearly physical at the recommendation of a friend. I've talked with my insurance provider before and they said that an annual physical is covered and should cost me approximately nothing. So I was surprised when I later got a bill for several hundred dollars. The root of the problem seems to be that the doctor classified everything as diagnostic rather than preventative. My insurance has said they can't do anything unless he contacts them and changes the classification. I have called and emailed the doctor's office multiple times to clear up the issue, but they have done nothing and I am still getting bill reminders for several hundred dollars. What additional action can I take, legal or otherwise, to force this doctor to fix his mistake?
