I have an alto saxophone that I would no longer like to keep lugging around as I move over and over again. It is worth more than I am willing to deal with myself: I've never sold anything worth more than $200 on ebay/craigslist. I can easily reach anywhere in New York City or environs, so I imagine there are a lot of places that would buy it from me. Is there any place in particular I should go? What should I expect their markup to be? Is this even a good idea? [more inside]
Surely, somewhere in the world, there must be one. There certainly *should* be. Musical Instrument Museums abound, in many countries, and would probably be fascinating to visit. But what I really want to see (and want to see archived) is a lovingly-curated collection of TOY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. Does anyone know where in the world such a place might be?
What is this instrument? I think it's a soprano sax, but it looks slightly different than other soprano saxes, so I'm wondering if it's a silver clarinet. Extra credit: who made it, how old is it, what's it worth? Thanks!
I need a musical instrument that can be stored in a vehicle (no climate control) for months at a time in a climate that is hot (over 100 degrees F during the daytime in the summer) and dry (not humid), without becoming warped or destroyed somehow. [more inside]

In recent years, I've grown uncomfortable with sight-reading lots of flats and naturals, especially in chords, and with reading notes above and below the staves. This is limiting my ability to sit down and play anything on the piano. What are some good pieces and exercises that help a person regain general mastery in this area?
For home recordings, I'm looking to learn a new instrument that is cello-like, low-end and haunting sounding, but not large and unwieldy. Help me brainstorm. [more inside]
I've decided to buy a tide clock, I can order one online, but I'd prefer to go into a store so I can ask questions regarding calibration etc. Does anyone know of a store that sells them in Toronto (or area?) Thanks
You can learn piano, guitar, and even the ocarina on YouTube. So, are there any good violin lessons out there? I'm looking for anything, but especially beginner violin (from, this is how you hold the bow to "caring for your violin" type videos.) [more inside]

I want to start making electronic music. I'm thinking about buying maybe an MPC type of device but not sure where to start. Novation Launchpad? Maschine? Any recommendations for a total, total beginner? Or should I really get a copy of Ableton and figure out if I'm truly into it first? [more inside]

I need an acoustic guitar to incorporate into an art installation. It'll be played roughly (by machines!), rest at an odd angle for years in conditions of unknown temperature and humidity, and be tuned only occasionally. What guitar should I get that won't crack, warp, or otherwise disintegrate under this treatment? Durability is more important than beauty or tone quality. I'm sure an electric guitar would be tougher, but I'd like to stay acoustic if possible. [more inside]

Do you know anything about the man whose experimental musical instruments were shown during interstitials on M2 (became MTV2) in the late '90s? I don't remember much about the instruments, but they were obviously handmade, mostly constructed out of household items. I seem to remember stringed instruments and organ-like things.

What are some good pop/rock songs that feature an accordion? We know smoking is bad for people, but is it bad for synthesizers? While looking at classified ads for various bits of musical equipment (speakers, synths, samplers etc) I often see in the descriptions "all gear used in a 100% smoke-free environment". Does this actually matter? And how come nobody ever includes that in descriptions for secondhand electric guitars?
