Looking for inspirational material. I hesitate to use the word inspirational, as it implies a meaningless aphorism in cursive script on an 80s-ish sunset. So many people I know are are sad and deeply disheartened right now ... what are some ideas - youtube clips, quotations, books, websites, etc - that have an effect of emboldening or comforting? For an example, this is one of my go-tos.

From the 90s to the early 00s (roughly my teens and twenties), I was a prolific composer and producer of music of all sorts of genres. Eventually I started doing it for my day job and all my creativity went away. Now it's 10 years later, and I haven't really done anything in about 10 years, and I'm getting desperate. [more inside]
I love to look through pictures of people's progress of improving their life in some way. I guess I find it calming and inspirational. Where on the internet can I find more of this? [more inside]

I do visual design for user interfaces on the web, and I'm always looking for new web products ("products" in the sense that web services like Airbnb or Uber are products) as sources of inspiration or to use as references for clients. Can anyone share some good sources for the types of sites I'm looking for? Thanks so much. [more inside]
I've noticed in the past few years that when I am bored or frustrated I tend to get inspired. Some of my best, most interesting sketches are from lectures and work meetings. While working in the office I come up with ideas for paintings, songs, quilts and other projects. I wrote my best poetry at a time when I felt trapped and as if my true thoughts were dangerous and forbidden. [more inside]
Have bitten the bullet and joined a new gym. Just going there to sign up and take a tour of the facilities was enough to make me feel inadequate. I didn't see a single person there who looked like me. I need help with silencing the negative self-talk, because I really do want to stick with it. Any advice for a frightened, fat gym noob? Success stories, words of inspiration? Or just what you wish you knew when you started out? [more inside]
I'm hunting for an app (ideally on iPad) that offers you a curated, regularly-updated feed of images of great design, for a daily dose of inspiration. The content can be drawn from pretty much any source: advertising, photography, web design, home decor, whatever. DesignScene used to do a pretty good job of this a few years back, but unfortunately got discontinued. Any ideas, guys?
What's the most inspiring New Year's Resolution/habit change/life change you've witness in friends and family or even yourself (it's OK to brag)? This year I want to push myself to try new things after stagnating a bit and I'm looking for inspiration!

I have lots of neat ideas for creative projects – cool websites to build, little indie games to make, music mixes to assemble, "maker" projects to create – but I'm terrible (terrible!) about follow-through. My hard drive and apartment are littered with unfinished projects that I started with enthusiasm, and have since only fiddled around with half-heartedly, if at all. How can I get better about this? [more inside]
I'm looking to compile a collection of short, entertaining, inspiring, high-energy videos about creativity, the creative process, and innovation by their very nature. Classic showing, not telling. [more inside]

I'm neck deep in writing an academic book at the moment, and on the worst days I lose the will to live. To dislodge myself from the daily temptation to nuke the whole manuscript, slit my wrists and be done with it all, I've been trying to keep motivated by reading good accounts of the life of writers. I would love recommendations! Details inside. [more inside]
Trying to come up with inspirational sayings for boundary enforcement, something that can be embroidered or engraved. Some sort of physical embodiment of this saying will be created. The idea should be you can't save everyone, you need to not take on the pain of the world, everything is not on your shoulders, you can say no, et cetera. [more inside]

When I sleep aboard a boat I often slip a 6" piece of cardboard into the vent over my head to stop the chilly airflow while I sleep. I want to write on it with marker a nice quote I'll look up at every time I'm in bed. I'd like for it to be a nice reminder to see every night before I close my eyes. [more inside]
I need your ideas for sayings/quotations/an awesome slogan you just came up with yourself that conveys the idea that you should just get up and do your workout. It's part of a gift (for a very willing participant), but because that thinspiration stuff makes me want to hurl and because the quotation will be visible to other people, I don't want a "you will love your body more" or even "I really regret that workout said nobody ever" type thing. [more inside]

I'd like to take two weeks off of work and come back with a new sense of direction in life. I have been in the same job for almost four years and find little fulfillment there, yet also haven't found the motivation or made the time to move on. Maybe some semi-structured time off work to think, mark next steps, and break patterns will help? How and where should I spend my time? [more inside]
I recently got the opportunity to direct a commercial! Yay!!! Now the bad news: I've been working a mind-numbing retail job for the last eight months, and have had few opportunities to do anything creative (outside of writing a screenplay). Help me re-enliven my inner creative spark. [more inside]
Hey folks. I'm having some hang ups lately about arriving "late" to some areas of culture and life. I'm also still in a "phase" where I am reaching out, establishing new social circles, and attempting to validate a sense of self(I just* turned 24). Largely, I am wondering if any Mefites happen to recall stories of success, especially on a grand scale, of folks who pursued passions academic or not, a wee bit later in life and still fought/worked/finessed a means of becoming successful/happy/prolific in their fields or passions - especially after a means of difficult time or trauma. Super inspiration, please? Motive to keep going, work harder, even if you feel like you've been pretty beaten up/down and out for a little while? Stories of life-changing occurrences or pick-ups in character/pace, in a positive/radical/tremendous way? [more inside]

[playlist filter] I'm looking for songs that are about staying true to your art, about putting in the work, and not caring about the rewards. The kind of song that makes you want to stay us all night working on a painting or novel or whatever. Been really into "Make the Money" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, so looking for music in the same vein. [more inside]

Inspired by this post, I'm working on my own "go-to" salad that I'll always be able to make. The criteria are: "fresh ingredients you can get in most stores, which you will never tire of, and can eat twice a week for the rest of your life." Do you have a "go-to" salad or something similar? - I'm looking for inspiration here so the more unusual/personal the better!

I love to stop and draw when I take walks in New York. I'm inspired by architectural details and monumental perspective, contrasts of space and light. Usually I wander aimlessly until I find an interesting spot to sit with my sketchbook, but that's a bit tougher when it's 20 degrees outside. I'm in the process of setting up weekly sketching adventures with a novice artist friend, and I feel there should be some planning involved. Help me compile a list of potentially inspiring places we can sit and sketch in the city without our fingers freezing off. [more inside]
