I work for a club in the San Fernando Valley and recently broke my ankle on the job. I am classified as 1099 but am actually a misclassified statutory employee and I think the the guy who owns the club and/or his insurance company is/are trying to cheat his way out of paying me worker's comp. and covering the cost of my pending operation.

"Go to the emergency room?" filter. My friend got scratched on the neck by a nail, or maybe by the edge of a board. The two cuts are very superficial. We immediately washed it and soaked it with rubbing alcohol. Now, an hour or two later, a red circle surrounds the area. Is this emergency-room material?

I've been screen printing all weekend and the squeegee has abraded my fingertips off! I'm leaving bloody fingerprints on my paper and my hands hurt. I still have 200 more prints to go in the run... is there anything I can put on my fingertips to protect and heal them, and/or dull the pain while I finish?

during training for my last marathon I've been having trouble with my left knee giving out and being extremely painful in the end, so about five weeks I got an MRI done. the recommendation my doc gave me was to not run at all for four weeks. it has now been five weeks and while I am pain free I am hesitant to pick up my training again because I don't feel it's working properly again. I am not sure how to communicate what my problem is to my doc and what to ask for.

I just got into road cycling this year. I bought a bike in February, and have been ramping up in miles and pace since then. I just did a metric century (actually ~67 miles) a few weeks ago, my longest ride yet, and it killed my left knee. With this in mind, how do I keep up my progress in the off-season and return harder better faster stronger? What else can I do to move up a division for next year? (Also-- your thoughts on trainer versus stationary exercise bike: give me them.)

How do I cope emotionally with severe lower back pain?
I have seen a doctor, and they said that I am doing all the right things, but it will be between 2 to 10 weeks before it stops.
In the meantime,
everything really, really hurts. Cuddling my partner. Standing. Walking. Grocery shopping. Driving. Going to the laundromat. Making the bed....

I'm training for a marathon that is taking place in just over 5 weeks. I haven't been able to run for 2 weeks due to illness and injuries. I took a week off to nurse some hip bursitis and then I came down with a flu like bug. The longest training run I've done so far has been 14 miles, and that was two weeks ago. This weekend, I am supposed to do 18 miles. To you runners out there - what do you think the best way is for me to get back on track and finish the race successfully over the next 5 weeks? My pace is around 11 minutes/mile.

The reality of humanity and mortality. People write blogs about everything. Are there great introspective blogs from psychologists / psychiatrists and first-responder EMTs? This may end up a little depressing, so skip it if you're sensitive.

I've taken up walking on a treadmill lately, and as I ramp up the intensity I seem to be bruising one small spot on one foot. I'm not sure what I'm doing to cause it. It's not a shoe issue. I get this whether I'm wearing regular running shoes or my Vibrams.

Last Saturday, baseball player
Kendry Morales hit a grand slam to win the game and promptly broke his leg at home plate. It got me thinking, perhaps morbidly -- what if he can't come back, and that was his last major league at bat? So my question is, is there info somewhere on baseball players' last at bats? Has anybody else hit a grand slam and then never appeared again? Difficult to google.

bipolar disorder. I love her, but living with her is very, very difficult. She breaks down all the time. I don't know if I should commit to a life with her, and deal with this into perpetuity, or if I should move on and try to find someone better adjusted, leaving love for peace and stability.
