Sitting-tour-of-NYC filter: My seventeen-year-old sister is visiting me in NJ this week and we want to hit up NYC on Saturday. Problem: she sprained her knee on the plane ride over, and so a lot of things I had in mind (mostly shopping) are no longer practical. Help me find cost-effective entertainment in NYC for someone on crutches!

I train in a martial art at a place with an active competitive team, which I am trying to join. The other person there who is my size/skill level and on the competitive team goes very hard with me in sparring and always leaves me injured/bruised to a greater degree than any other student. How can I work around this situation or have a mature and productive confrontation about it, given that I still want to compete so I cannot avoid working with this person 100%?

"Go to the emergency room?" filter. My friend got scratched on the neck by a nail, or maybe by the edge of a board. The two cuts are very superficial. We immediately washed it and soaked it with rubbing alcohol. Now, an hour or two later, a red circle surrounds the area. Is this emergency-room material?

I've been screen printing all weekend and the squeegee has abraded my fingertips off! I'm leaving bloody fingerprints on my paper and my hands hurt. I still have 200 more prints to go in the run... is there anything I can put on my fingertips to protect and heal them, and/or dull the pain while I finish?

I just got into road cycling this year. I bought a bike in February, and have been ramping up in miles and pace since then. I just did a metric century (actually ~67 miles) a few weeks ago, my longest ride yet, and it killed my left knee. With this in mind, how do I keep up my progress in the off-season and return harder better faster stronger? What else can I do to move up a division for next year? (Also-- your thoughts on trainer versus stationary exercise bike: give me them.)

Yesterday I started having sudden sharp pain and stiffness in my left knee, above and around the kneecap. I suspect I injured it doing squats and lunges (with bad form) the night before. Could it get better on its own, if I rest for a few days? Or should I see a doctor (and what kind)?

I started running 2 - 3 weeks ago and I run around 3 miles every second day. So for the past week, I've had this sort of "pain" or somekind of uncomfortable feeling above my knee. The "pain" is not in the knee itself, but maybe in muscle above it? When I'm laying in bed or sitting it feels the same way. It doesn't hurt, but its just a little bit uncomfortable. Its kinda like a feeling of someone is squeezing a muscle just above my knee.
Should I be worried and go to a doctor or is this normal, when you havnt done any exercise for 8 years and just started? I'm 22 and male btw.
