Give me a crash course in knowledge management

I get to do a huge reorganization of my department's computer file system. Problem 1: I know almost nothing about knowledge management. Problem 2: I've only been with the department for five months. Do you have good resources for helping me get up to speed with knowledge management/information science best practices? Please share your experiences doing this kind of project. Reading previous AskMe's it looks like I might need sources about information science? [more inside]

Should I leave this relationship or is there hope?

Should I stay in this relationship? Over the course of the past year and a half, I have repeatedly (approximately 5-6 times) discovered that the person I hope to spend my life with has kept information from me. I just don't know that it will ever get better, and am so much in need of an objective set of eyes, please. [more inside]

Effect of torrents and/or free downloads on culture generally

Have you read or can you point me to any interesting articles about what will be the future of media like films/software/books given the way they are all being distributed online via torrent sites & the like. Will copyright go away or what? I am looking for INTERESTING theoretical speculations, not some person just saying the letter of the current law will be enforced or the usual doomsday-talk.

GIF Archaeology

I'm writing a paper on (animated) GIFs and am trying to track down some of the most (in)famous. I suppose I am talking memes, but I'm more interested in the GIF as an archaeological reference point. I frequent sites like dump.fm, tumblr etc. so am quite tuned in to the glitchy/kitschy side of GIF culture. How theoretical have people got on these wonders of the web? How does one trace the history of an animated GIF? [more inside]

How do you make interesting ideas and views stick with you?

You're probably all familiar with this: you spend a couple of hours burning through pile of Google Reader/Read It Later/Instapaper items, and everything seems to clear and informational and your attention level is high and you get all those great ideas and... and it stays in your head for two days. Do you know any good tools or habits I can use to improve retention of what I read? Do you keep a journal? Make notes? Write down short abstracts of more interesting articles? Periodically re-read some stuff? [more inside]

Information wants to be free, at least for the next month or so...

Someone just called me asking if they could deliver free copies of The National Post for a month's trial period. Apparently I am under no obligation to renew or pay for a subscription, and they gave me a phone number and ID of the telemarketer who called me if I want to cancel. Issues of politics and/or newspaper quality aside, would I be getting myself into any trouble if I said yes to this supposedly strings-free offer?
