How do you organize bottle feeding on the go?

What is your setup for bottle-feeding your infant on the go? We are interested in things like - How do you keep the leftover formula from spoiling, what does your on-the-go kit look like, how do you keep things clean, how do you heat up the bottle (or do you?) when you are out for the day, or at the park, or wherever. We have a 3 week-old who needs to be partially bottle fed but we are struggling with how to get outside and not starve him out, and not end up throwing away most of a bottle of formula. [more inside]

Preparing for 1st baby- when to save vs splurge? buy new vs used?

Preparing for our first baby in October and trying to figure out the smartest approach to equipping ourselves with everything we're going to need. So many choices to make! What things should we pay more for because we'd regret pinching pennies, and when is splurging on the pricier stuff a waste? What should we look for new vs used (and not just for safety issues like carseats, but also what's the key "never waste your money on buying X new, you can get it so much cheaper used" stuff)? Baby Bedtime Routine for Working Folks

We discovered this week that our four-month-old needs a much earlier bedtime. We now start the routine after 6 PM, with him in bed by 7 PM (and it's working great). But we've been on vacation for these new bedtimes and I'm having trouble visualizing how this routine will go on a weekday. How do you do it? [more inside]

Get those #)(*% babies off the #($*%&$ plane!

Would you take your 4 month old baby on an overseas flight? We want to fly to Europe next the fall, probably an 8 hour flight from where we are. We're also having our first baby in the spring. We feel like it would be an adventure (!) that could maybe be a bad idea. Has anyone flown overseas and had it gone very well or very terribly? Anything we should know? We are trying to imagine our lives post-baby and we very much want travel to be a part of it, but is 4 months too young? [more inside]

Our baby (who is six months old) now sleeps in this Lotus travel crib. We did this because we travelled a lot when she was first born and were in the middle of moving. How Is Babby Cared For: Crash Course in Babby 101

My partner and I just found out last night that we have been chosen as adoptive parents to a baby... who is due in September! So, suddenly lots to do and lots to learn. Where do we even start?! Instruction manuals, blogs, scholarly articles, To Do Lists, To Don't Do Lists... What are the resources you found indispensable? Which did you find later that you wished you'd had earlier? Which are a waste of my time? We have wonderful family and friends who I know will help us figure all of this out, but I need to start building up my own arsenal of resources.

advice for two longish flights with a one year old?

I'm going to be flying alone next month with my baby who will be almost one month old then. She just stopped nursing, and she's very much into crawling, rolling, and standing right now (as I type, she's not yet walking). She doesn't sleep when she's being held; she needs a crib or her carseat for that. There's no direct flight between here and destination city, and we can either divide it up between two 3-hour flights or one five-hour and one one-hour. I'm not a good flyer when I'm responsible only for myself, so I'm positively daunted by traveling alone with my daughter. I would appreciate any advice you could give me. [more inside]

Baby carrier advice

I have a clingy little infant and have been using a ring sling with mediocre results. The problem is that it seems my infant's too floppy in the ring sling and I'm lusting after an Ergo. Is this a worthwhile investment or do I just need to figure out how to use the ring sling better/position my baby better? I'd like to be able to carry my baby while having complete use of my hands and--this is especially important--being able to bend over for cleaning, laundry, errands, etc. without having to use my hands or worry about slippage. And if your answer to the above is that I should get a non-ring sling carrier, is Ergo what you would recommend?

Visiting New Orleans with an infant

My wife and I will be visiting New Orleans at the end of this month with our almost 1-year old son. Having the baby with us has required two contingencies: we are renting a car, and our days will have to end by 6:30 or 7 pm-ish (although they do start at 6:30-7am). We will also need to find a quiet place for him to nap during the day, or else sit in the car/return to our lodging for an hour or so. I am hoping he'll nap in the stroller as we wander the city, but can't take this for granted. Given this, and the fact that we only have two days (Friday-22 and Monday-25, the weekend is taken up by the wedding we are travelling for) how best to organize our time? Heading to Iceland with an infant

My wife and I are thinking of heading to Iceland for our summer vacation. This year will be a little different as we will be traveling with our 14month old. Since are on the East Coast the flight to Iceland is reasonably quick and Iceland is quicker than some domestic locations We hope to rent a house in the south eastern part of Iceland in late May or early June.
