Our 21 day old daughter is tongue-tied (ankyloglossia). The doctor wants to do the clip (lingual frenectomy) under general anesthesia by default, and we're uncomfortable with that. Is general anesthesia appropriate by default for this? Should we be concerned?

Okay, I'm pretty much at wit's end. My six month old son (second child) has always been a very easygoing and happy baby, but for the last month or so, he's been extraordinarily needy. Normally, this is something I'd attribute to teething, but Tylenol/Orajel does not seem to help, and the pediatrician checked him two days ago and said he doesn't see or feel anything near the surface yet. Now that my son has accepted that his "Ba" (bottle) is truly a thing of the past, what should I do with his bottles? Part of me wants to donate them (I even have unused nipples in packages) to a local shelter / food bank, but of course we all now know that clear polycarbonate bottles probably leach bisphenol-A into the milk. (saccade, I should have listened to you!!) I'm very conflicted about this. Can you help me make the most ethical choice? [more inside]

I'm looking for some good ideas for infant Halloween costumes. We have a 5 month old daughter that we'd love to dress up (mostly for the cute pictures) but we're short on ideas. I've seen all the 'cute' costumes (some into the hundreds of dollars) available for sale on various sites but none of them are striking me as particularly worth the money. [more inside]

My 11 month old son needs to be circumcised soon due to extreme phimosis which has led to repeated urinary tract infections. (See this question for some background, actually.) Are there other Mefi parents who have had their older infants/children circumcised? Our urologist seems to think that he'll only be in discomfort for a day or two, and that the aftercare will be fairly minimal, but I'm not sure I believe him.
Please lets not debate circumcision, ok? We chose not to have him circumcised at birth, but repeated serious UTIs are a whole other kettle of fish. Thanks! [more inside]

Urine gets trapped between my son's foreskin and his penis (he is not circumcised, obviously). He's six months old. Over the weekend we noticed this every single time we changed his diaper, but it is not something we'd noticed before Friday of last week.
My question is: is this unusual enough that I should contact his Ped ASAP, or is this basically normal and I can wait and talk with his Ped about it during his regular 6 month check up in two weeks? [more inside]
