Hi there. I am looking for a comic book mini-series, probably from the 1980's but possibly from the 1990's. It is not a Marvel or DC series.
The premise of the series is that 5 or 10 years before the series begins, a Dr. Doom-like character leads an army of supervillians and actually defeats all the superheroes, killing or depowering them.
The mini-series ran for 5 or 6 issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If I want to hire an editor to manage the blog for my ad-driven website, how much should the pay be if it's full-time? What about part-time? Other than creating and managing content, managing writers (and bringing on new ones), and promoting the blog and the site on social media, is there anything else I should list in a online editor's duties? Somewhere between 1997 and 2001 in Seattle, I saw a 1 or 2 hour independent film on TV at a friend's place. The subject was a man who wanted to row a small boat across a series of lakes and rivers somewhere in northern Canada. He traveled alone and filmed himself. I don't remember enough nor know enough about Canadian geography to say much more about the location. [more inside]

I'm planning a road trip around the US and Canada this June and was looking for suggestions for independent bookstores and places that cater to Yoga practitioners/Yoga studios that have an oomph factor. Do you have a favorite indie bookstore or a Yoga studio you go to that you'd love to share with other people? I welcome any and all suggestions! [more inside]

Does anyone remember the name of an independent "interactive fiction" game that appeared on MeFi a while back? The gist of it was that there was a "writer" and a "player", and the writer created scenes visually (in an old school 8-bit, top-down view), and the player would respond with his/her action textually, and the writer would then update the graphics on the screen to reflect the actions of the user. The completed stories could then be uploaded to a common site for all to share.
It was very cool, but I can't remember its name for the life of me.

I'm looking for online sources for unique candy. Whenever I see candy I've never seen before, I have to buy it. This is especially true if there is evidence it's actually good quality and not just weird. Small independent companies, regional and international candy, old-fashioned, unusual foodie-bait flavors and preparations, fancy packaging, I'm into it all. Are there online shops that bring any or all of these things together, on the way to my mouth? [more inside]

Foreign Movie Filter: I need help remembering the name of a movie I saw at the Verzaubert festival in Berlin in November 2006. I am currently working in the NY area for an employer that hired me a few months ago as an independent contractor. This employer just notified me that my position has been terminated (without cause) due to budgetary reasons, with termination effective in one week. According to my contract, either party is supposed to give 30 days notice prior to termination or resignation. There is no indication within the contract regarding payment in lieu of notice. Do I have any recourse or reasonable expectation of some form of compensation considering that I have been given only one week's notice? [more inside]

I'm trying to figure out the name of a short film that aired on IFC this year (don
't know month). I think it was russian (it was definitely not in english). It was about a group of young boys. One of the boys decides he the antichrist (or a demon, im not positive) and does various activities to demonstrate that he is in fact what he claims to be. The whole group of boys seem to go along with the antichrist boy, except for one who is a little freaked out by it. The antichrist boy targets the freaked out boy, making him do horrible things or he will kill him. I recall a scene where the antichrist boy makes the freaked out boy push a bicycle up a crazy mountain with a lot of wait on it (it might of been all of the children weighing it down?). There was a scene where an animal is brutally killed. Another scene featured blood that the boys drank from a goblet (not sure about the goblet part). I think the final scene had something to do with the antichrist boy being burried alive. If someone could identify the film and produce the title, I would be quite greatful.

What is the best way to approach an author for an interview? I'm assuming I go through the publisher, although this author has published just one book. Since I'm a student/independent journalist, I'm wondering whether my email is likely to be forwarded along to the author. My feeling is the author may be interested, but since it's a student piece it's unlikely to sell more books. Should I worry about catering to the publisher in any way in my correspondence -- and if so, how? T

I make independent films and distribute them myself. I've started sending my movies to independent video rental stores around the country. I've sent my movies to I Luv Video in Austin, Scarecrow Video in Seattle, Video Underground and Hollywood Express in Boston, Acme Video in Providence, and others. What are the best independent video rental stores in your city?
Don't say Netflix.
