I've been involved in improv on and off for a while. I love improv, I always feel that it's presenting me with opportunities to grow as a person and see myself better. Plus, it's often very funny and liberating. [more inside]
I've volunteered to participate in a Battledecks competition at an upcoming library conference. There's a twist this year, as we're doing is as a team (well, duo), which makes it even more of a challenge. Any suggestions from folks who've done this before, or from those with improv experience? My partner and I will have some opportunities for a practice/dry-run before we head to the conference -- help and thanks!
Ok, I'm studying a new improv role and really struggling to capture my character's essence. How do I act like a subtle but ruthless aggressor... without swerving into TV dominatrix land? Think strong, machiavellian, sadistic and contemptuous. With a kick of prima donna. [more inside]
For very low budget, collaborative efforts, where the script is an outline and you are told to act like yourself, where there is no pay and no craft services and you are doing it because you enjoy being together, how is ownership usually apportioned? [more inside]
We run a small improv theatre company. Potential sponsors and clients always ask about videos of our shows, so we're looking into recording our shows. We're okay on the video side but we can't get good quality audio. What kind of setup should we use? [more inside]

I'm not an actor/director/casting professional (outside of that one play I directed in college that wasn't very good), but I need to audition roughly six actors this week and I don't know how to do that in a constructive way. [more inside]
I'd like to take an improv class for various reasons unrelated to acting -- to think better on my feet, to be more spontaneous, less shy in groups, etc. I live in NYC where I suspect even an intro class will be filled with experienced actor types. This is fine, I guess, but I wonder if anyone can recommend a place where regular people like me might be in the mix. I'm also in my 40s, which makes me feel like I'll be too old, but I'll hopefully get over that soon enough. Thanks for any ideas.
Help me think through a smart/simple/clean way to project text from two different sources onto a screen. And - have you seen/been in any shows that mix digital/physical worlds? I'm all ears for advice about how to make this an especially delightful experience. More details inside. [more inside]

I'm making several lists of suggestions/call fors - the things that an audience would call out at an improv show. Help me, hive mind! [more inside]
At first I thought good improv meant walking onstage with absolutely no plan and just reacting to whatever happened - the cue word or whatever. After lots of very awkward scenes, I heard someone mention going onstage with an emotion in mind and I was like WAIT A MINUTE - you can have a strategy? So I've gone up for exercises with a couple of concrete ideas, such as an activity to start with and it definitely helped a lot. And then I started wondering if I could practice improv by myself. I joined an improv group through meet-up.com. Our current practice space is part of a set of mall storefronts that have been converted into a haunted house. At the end of summer they are going to resume haunting folks and we will no longer have practice space. Any thoughts on where in Portland OR. we might be able to find relatively private rooms that have seating and an open area that are either free or extremely cheap? [more inside]

My improv troupe is looking for ways to publicize our shows, beyond the word-of-mouth and email lists we've been working with so far. As part of this effort, I'm looking for websites with listings and schedules for comedy shows--particularly improv comedy--in the Los Angeles area. Specifically, of course, I'm looking for sites that allow you to post your own listing, or submit it for posting. Any suggestions?
