At first I thought good improv meant walking onstage with absolutely no plan and just reacting to whatever happened - the cue word or whatever.
After lots of very awkward scenes, I heard someone mention going onstage with an emotion in mind and I was like WAIT A MINUTE - you can have a strategy? So I've gone up for exercises with a couple of concrete ideas, such as an activity to start with and it definitely helped a lot. And then I started wondering if I could practice improv by myself.

I've played classical piano for years, but I'm just starting out with jazz and blues. A friends is learning bass guitar from scratch. Can anyone recommend some easy riffs or chord progressions we could play together?

I am trying to form an improv practice group that will become (I hope) a performance group. I need tips across the board - how do we find rehearsal space for free/cheap, how do we run our practice sessions, how do we make the leap from practice to performance? What other questions am I not even thinking to ask?

I joined an improv group through meet-up.com. Our current practice space is part of a set of mall storefronts that have been converted into a haunted house. At the end of summer they are going to resume haunting folks and we will no longer have practice space. Any thoughts on where in Portland OR. we might be able to find relatively private rooms that have seating and an open area that are either free or extremely cheap?

Which theaters offer quality improv classes in the Bay Area?
I'm planning on moving to the Bay Area and am an improv junkie - taking classes concurrently at UCB, iO, Second City, The Groundlings and The WE in Los Angeles.
So far I've only had BATS recommended to me... any others?

My improv troupe is looking for ways to publicize our shows, beyond the word-of-mouth and email lists we've been working with so far. As part of this effort, I'm looking for websites with listings and schedules for comedy shows--particularly improv comedy--in the Los Angeles area. Specifically, of course, I'm looking for sites that allow you to post your own listing, or submit it for posting. Any suggestions?

Improv Comedy Filter: I just moved to Chicago and everyone tells me "To meet people like you, you gotta join an improv troup!" The problem is: there's like 30 of them, and they're all different. So Chicago (or improv) fans: What's the deal with these improv classes, which do you recommend, and what's the best way for a newbie to the city to get situated in the scene?
