(Technical material ahead!) Differing advice from dental specialists for an urgent procedure. Situation: Failed apicoectomy (10+ yrs) that has developed an active and gross fistula. My current endodontist wants to do a repeat procedure, adding bone graft. Says there's a good chance of saving tooth, for "at least five to ten years." (Direct quote. If the tooth is cracked - xrays can't tell - it might require extraction.) [more inside]

My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, which sucks in many, many ways, not the least of which is that it seems that it could have been caught by her mammogram two years ago, but wasn't, possibly because the technician ignored information in her chart. She is now being encouraged by others to sue for malpractice, considering that her cancer has now had two extra years to progress. My teeth are a mess. I have a major lifelong grinding and chewing problem. The bottom set are very worn down, the top front teeth have crumbled in the past from chewing and I have crowns. I have numerous fillings and root canals and there are ominous cracks in several others. Is there a way I could solve this problem once and for all? I'm talking about fixing the teeth falling apart, not curbing the grinding. Assume cost is not an obstacle.

NaNoWriMo-filter (okay, and I'm just plain curious): What do saline vs. silicone vs. cohensive gel ("gummi bear") implants feel like? Does it feel like flesh on top with a discernable lump beneath, or do the two intermingle subtly? I'm most curious about the cohesive gel, as these are touted as being realistic but they're new enough (still in clinical trials in the U.S.) that personal accounts are rare. [more inside]
