Zillions of billionaire characters in fiction try to buy their way out of dying by funding crazy research efforts or moving into orbit or whatever—think of John Hurt in Contact or Lionel Luthor in Smallville. Say I want to make my name ring out through the ages. What is the best way, for a few grand or so, to make sure that I am remembered for as long as possible? Going for great achievements seems ambitious and too much work, and I am not interested in being known for great crimes. I am thinking more along the lines of the old statues-in-the-desert angle. Any ideas?

So I was perusing Alterslash today and saw a discussion about an article on Technology Review re Immortality research. This is something I myself ask people about and was kind of curious as to what the community response would be.

Leaving aside the actual feasibility of the science, and assuming you could maintain reasonably good health (say frozen at a physical age of 40) would you take Immortality or a hugely extended lifespan (1000+ years) if it were offered to you and why?
