If hubby is successful with Italian citizenship, is he allowed to live and work in Scotland as a member of the EU? Can I live with him in Scotland, and work there as his US citizen spouse? [more inside]
What experts do my fiance and I need to help us figure out our complicated multinational financial situation? [more inside]
Can I apply for an American green card if my spouse (American) and I (Canadian) are both residents of Canada? Or does my spouse need to move back to the USA before we can apply for me to get a green card? [more inside]
How do you do it? [more inside]
We have a great relationship. For lots of reasons, it would make sense for us to get married in the near future. But she wants kids, and I'm not sure I do, or ever will. Would getting married be a bad idea, particularly if the likely alternative is to break up? [more inside]
My girlfriend and I will be volunteering at a mountain retreat center/camp in the US for a year. This retreat center is a religious nonprofit affiliated with a mainline protestant denomination and has existed since the '60s (and I have visited it many times before, as a member of that denomination). We will be paid a stipend of $550 a month each and have benefits like room & board, health and dental insurance...or at least I, as a US citizen, will get them. What does my girlfriend, as a Canadian citizen, need to provide to US immigration (specifically DHS at the border) to have the greatest chance of receiving that stipend and/or benefits? [more inside]
My (US Citizen) husband recently indicated that he’d like me (a UK Citizen) to leave. Where do I start? [more inside]
I'm an unwanted immigrant in the UK. I want out. Where to go? [more inside]
I previously worked for a large multi-national and have begun freelancing. I'm a software developer that works in a very in demand, popular enterprise product. I speak nationally at conference and I'm recognized as a "leader" in the field. In any case I always wanted to consult and travel the world. I often find a lot of lucrative contract jobs mostly in London, but other large cities in the EU. These are often short-term, realistically can I use this to fund my travel? What's the best way to do this and will employers hire an American? [more inside]
My boyfriend and I have been together for close to 9 years. I've been offered a GREAT job in the US - the only way he could work there, it seems, would be to get married. Problem: we both really never thought of getting married - and it's 100% not romantic. [more inside]
My question is whether we need to hire an attorney to facilitate my husband's citizenship application. He has a coworker who used one himself and insists a lawyer is necessary because the stakes are so high. The coworkers situation is a bit different, though, since he had two DUIs on his record. My husband has a clean record, never arrested or charged with anything. [more inside]
I want to move to make a permanent move to Mexico. How do I make this happen? [more inside]
What do I need to know and be prepared for when applying for a tier 4 visa to relocate from the US to the UK? How will my (totally minor and mundane, youthful, etc.) criminal record come into play, and how can I get in front of any potential issues? [more inside]
At the age of 46 I had to get my younger brother, who also lives in the U.S. but for a much longer time, to cosign my lease because my wife and I have only a year of American credit history being recent immigrants. Now I know it is illegal to deny housing based on someone being an immigrant but that it is legal to deny housing based on a credit check. Is it foul play that they refuse to check our foreign credit history? [more inside]
Best way for a moderately successful Canadian tech entrepreneur without a degree to emigrate to Europe? [more inside]
Two plainclothes detectives showed up tonight at our door. They claimed that a lewd picture had been sent from one of our cellphones to another person. We truthfully told them we knew nothing about it. They asked very few questions, mostly to confirm our identity, said "no one's in trouble but no-one should be sending stuff like this" and left. What should we do/expect now? Details inside. (Ontario, CA) [more inside]
I am residing illegally in a country (I would rather not say which one) and am dating. I reached out to a person on a dating site. We have only been on two dates, but I quite like them and the person seems very into me as well. I feel like since I asked them out the onus is more on me to tell them about my status than if they had asked me out. When should I tell? I want to wait in order to protect myself from even the slightest possibility of deportation, but I also want to be as honest and forthright as I can be to honor both the person I am interested in and myself. I need recommendations for an attorney in the Philadelphia area, who can handle divorce and custody cases where one party (myself) is a non-US citizen, who is here on a marriage-based Green Card. The Card itself is about 2 years old.
How can I find a lawyer or similar professional with experience in applying for EEA Family Permits in the UK, while I am still living in the US? [more inside]
My common-law partner and I are in the process of filing forms for her sponsorship of me to receive permanent resident status in Canada. She changed her marital status to common-law on her most recent tax forms (we have been living together since 2009). She is now being audited by Revenue Canada, since this reflects a change from her last tax return and how her GST/HST refunds are calculated. [more inside]
What should I do instead of online journalism? [more inside]
I, a U.S. citizen, married a foreign national some time ago and helped her obtain conditional permanent resident status as a result of the marriage. I subsequently discovered that she had no intent of engaging in a legitimate marital relationship with me and, instead, had married me for the sole purpose of becoming a permanent resident of the United States. Upon this discovery, I filed for an annulment but was instead granted a divorce (details inside). My immigrant ex-wife will soon need to apply (via the I-751 process) to convert her "conditional" permanent resident status to "true" permanent resident status if she wishes to remain in the United States legally (which she does). I do not know whether she will be granted this status, but I would like to find out whether or not she does attain it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might find this out? [more inside]

For an Australian citizen thinking of moving to the United States, is it better to see an immigration lawyer in Australia, or one in the US, for consultation? This assumes that one is currently in Australia, but travels occasionally to the US. [more inside]
I was cautioned (not convicted) for possession of cannabis in 2003 in the UK. I understand that the USA is not very friendly towards people with drugs "offences" on their record and I'm wondering if I will have trouble travelling to Hawaii (via a four-day stopover in San Francisco) in the middle of next year.

Will US Immigration get upset if I take my BlackBerry with me to the US on vacation? [more inside]
American here, with spouse. Thinking of moving to Canada within 5 years, but retaining US citizenship (both of us). One of us has quite marketable skills, the other is on disability. Will one of us being on disability hurt our chances?? Where do we start looking to learn about this process? How long does it usually take? What can we do to increase our chances of making this change? Anonymous so that work and a few other people don't find out before we let them know.

Unexpected inheritance of $100,000 - $150,000 complicated by move from the US to the UK in the next year. Say you're a British citizen. And you're married to a citizen of a European country and living in that country with them and your kids, who are also citizens of that European country. And say you no longer want to be married and want to move back to the UK. With the kids. Leaving aside the inevitable custody battle, what the hell do you do next? [more inside]

I'm a British native, and my partner is Asian - we've been married for some years (Asian more in the sense of 'outside the EU', which would have made this easier). At the weekend, a wallet containing their ICFN (Immigration Card for Foreign Nationals) was stolen. They urgently need to fly on family matters this weekend, however we're not sure what the status of their return will be without the ICFN [more inside]
A friend from the Eastern European country I grew up in asked if I would sign and submit an invitation so she can get a tourist visa to the U.S., where I reside. She intends to look for illegal work when she gets here. My immediate reaction was "No way!" with a few expletives thrown in, but I don't want to hurt her feelings when I crush her hopes. Can you give me any legal reasons for why I shouldn't do it? [more inside]

Can you recommend an immigration lawyer in the Bay Area who specializes in dealing with academics (J1 Scholars)? [more inside]
I'm looking for a lawyer who gives consultations over the phone, as I'm not in Canada at the moment. I have some very specific questions concerning self-employed immigration and a few other things (self-employed being the top priority though), so I'd like to find someone who is willing to answer questions as opposed to plugging my data into their questionnaire for a "chance assessment." I don't care where in Canada the lawyer is located, as long as they are versed in federal immigration procedures. Do you guys happen to know anyone like that?
