Looking for recent feedback and tips on living in
Shekou, China. We're transferring there with my company, they'll take care of the relocation, visas etc. so more general feedback on living conditions and things you wish you'd known/taken with you before arriving. I've seen the 2 Ask MeFi questions on
Shekou &
Shenzhen, does anyone have more up to date information?

A friend has just moved from mainland China to Vancouver, BC. Her English is pretty good, but not perfect (she speaks Mandarin). Her only work experience is in teaching.
I'm at the other end of the country, in Ontario, and want to do what I can to help her integrate and find work, but am hindered by my location and complete lack of immigration experience/knowledge. What helpful advice, tips, and resources can you share with her?

Immigration law, pregnancy, and aid: I've got a Chinese friend living in San Fransisco, about to have a baby, with a visa that expires in April, a due date somewhere in June, a boyfriend with permanent residency (also Chinese) who doesn't really want to get married (neither does she at this point), and unappealing options back in the home country. So San Fran residents, China law experts, and California lawyers, we need ya.
