Succumb, Masked Marvel!

You know how in "Peanuts," Lucy and Snoopy (disguised, of course, as the Masked Marvel) had an endless wrist-wrestling match that ended only when the MM, desperate, kissed Lucy on the nose? (Uh, did I need a spoiler alert there?) I need an image from that epic match, somewhere online. Ideally of them wrestling, locked in eternal combat, before the kiss. It's just for a personal joke on a friend who loves "Peanuts" and I won't be republishing it anywhere or anything like that. Endless Google Images and other searches turn up discussion of the strip, but no images. I'm thrilled that everyone is respecting Charles Schulz's copyright, but man, would I love to find one image of it for just five minutes. A book cover, anything...

Bigger Than Big, Taller Than Tall

PhotoshopFilter: How does one add resolution to an image? My current image size is 3'w x 2'h at 100dpi. The finished image needs to be roughly 10' x 7.5' (possibly bigger) at 100dpi. If I just scale it up or add dpi, I'll have noticable pixelization. [more inside]

Soundex for images of text

Does anyone know of a fairly fast algorithm for generating a "hash" of images which behaves like soundex, in that similar images have similar values? I know that's not possible in general, but I'm particularly interested in text - so what I really want is something that says "boo" is more like "bon" than "box" (in the character set I am using to type this, at least). You can assume no background noise, good orientation etc. [more inside]

Need advice for posting pictures for high-traffic situation.

Awhile back, I mentioned on MeFi that I had in my posession some pictures from Iraq that would no doubt attract a fair amount of public attention. I'm ready to make these pictures public, but I don't want my bandwidth costs to go through the roof, nor do I want to risk having my image hosting cut off. Does anyone have any advice as to how best to deal with this issue?

Can anyone tell me what this image (NSFW) comes from? Given its content, I wouldn't be surprised if it was from a bad Troma film or something similar, so bear that in mind before you click on it.

How to get a Windows XP

I know Windows XP has some sort of restore feature, but how about a good independent program that can let me take a "snapshot" of my new clean WinXP installation + Documents and Settings + Program Files so I can maybe burn to (probably multiple) DVDs and then easily restore at some point in the future. (This must be a common thing, but my googling proved unfruitful.) [more inside]

Santa Pez Dispenser

I've been trying since christmas to find a picture of a dissassembled Santa Pez Dispencer. If you ever had one, you may remember that you could take off the hat and beard to make a clean shaven Buddha-esque Santa. I assumed I'd be able to throw a stone and hit about ten pictures of this phenenon on Google image search, but I've been searching off and on for a while and havn't fond anything. Anyone know where I can find vistual proof of this without buying one online? (the new, solid-design is all I can find at local stores)

Huge Files

i've got a client that is doing private investiations of insurance fraud cases, and has been writing up reports in MS Word and embedding photos of the casework into those .doc files. the problem is that he needs to email these files to his clients so they can be proofread and modified (i had suggested .PDF files until i realized the clients needed to be able to modify the reports). Unfortunately, these .doc files with images embeded end up roughly 15 MB in size each, and become too large to email. they're not technically astute enough to resize the images to be smaller, however .PDF files nicely package that same 15 MB .doc file into a 250 KB .pdf file. do any of you have any ideas of a common document format that i can recommend to them that will take care of the image size for them?

thanks!

Experiences with Nintendo 64 to Gameboy SE adaptor

NERDS, PLEASE ADVISE! ... I have an old (but still treasured) Nintendo 64. I am currently addicted to playing games on my Gameboy SE. A friend tells me you can play Gameboy cartridges on the new Gamecube. I am excited about this, and price a Gamecube with the Gameboy add-on. I find it will be $150 for this. I am only really interested in playing Gameboy cartridges, and not so much interested in Gamecube games. So I have found this gameboy adaptor for the n64, which I can find all over the place for about $30. This sounds awesome, especially since it's $120 cheaper and since I fear that if I upgrade to the gamecube I'll never play the n64 anymore.

My question is: is the gameboy-to-television image as good on this n64 cartridge? Has anyone actually played with this? Or if I'm just interested in playing Gameboy on the t.v. , is the Gamecube worth the money?

Thank you for your time on this most important discussion topic.

What methods do sites use to prevent the downloading of images? Are there ways around the methods?

Sometimes I'll be at a website that won't allow me to click and download an image. How do you code this? Is it basic html? ...Also, does this really protect the image from being downloaded or are there ways around it? (beyond doing a screenshot) Is embedding the image in a flash document a good idea too? - thanks.

Program that will batch adjust light levels on (ZIP and RAR) compressed CBZ and CBR files of scanned JPEGs?

I have a large amount of CBZ and CBR files that are ZIP and RAR files respectively with scanned JPEGs of comic books inside them. Thing is, the levels on the scans are sometimes too dark or too bright. Is there a windows program that would batch fix the levels (like photoshop's Automatic Levels command) on the compressed archives without having to unzip pr unrar them first?

Windows background issues

Win2K - I had a risque pictue set as my desktop background. My in-laws are coming to stay for a week, and my machine is in the guest room. Since I already don't rate very highly with then, I swapped the background image to something very tame. However, during the startup process, the original image appears for a couple of seconds before being replaced by the new. Why does this happen, and how can I fix it?

Images are getting left out of my Pagemaker newsletter.

Pagemaker question- I know little about print publishing as I work mostly with the web, but I do put out a newsletter for a local natural foods market and have so far been able to fake it through most challenges. My printer guy complains that the images are sometimes not available within my document. What is the proper way to link these if you are then throwing the publication on disc. I use PM 7.0, but save as a .P65 file because my printer has only that version. Thanks!

Organizing Digital Images

Sorting digital images. I went digital a year and a half ago and I still haven't figured out a way to sort my pictures that really works for me (by which I mean edit, in the sense of going through and picking out the keepers and organizing them by merit, subject, whatever). Before I went digital I used to just get cheap 4x6 prints of everything on every roll and had a very efficient system for sorting through, editing and organizing them, is there anything software-wise which makes this intuitive and easy, or should I just start printing? I find moving images around in folders really counter-intuitive for this purpose. Any suggestions?
