Hi all - I'm trying to connect my new XBox 360/Kinect wirelessly using my iMac's Airport Extreme. Airport works great with my Blu-ray player, my iPhone and various laptops that have been brought into the house, but I can't get the Xbox to connect. I've tried taking the WEP password off, and that doesn't help. I continually get the error message that the Xbox "can't obtain an IP address for your router or modem". Is this just a case of Microsoft not playing nice with Apple (or vice versa)? How can I fix this? Thanks and happy new year!

Recently aded an external drive to my iMac for storage of photo files. It runs off a Firewire 800 port. I also use a Time Capsule. The external drive is mounted overnight via crontab for the daily backup run. When that's done, a script unmounts the drive. This works reliably. The drive, then, should be unmounted the rest of the time. However, the drive is mounted at unexpected and sporadic intervals. The logs reveal that this is usually, but not always, immediately following the unmounting of the Time Capsule after an hourly run. Not on every run, but perhaps on one run per day. In addition, the external drive is sometimes mounted in a way that appears to have no association with the Time Capsule. What's going on?

I do occasional audio recording with GarageBand. I just recently upgraded from a G4 tower to an Intel iMac w/Snow Leopard. I settled for analog audio in through the mic input on the G4 but I think I want to step up to digital input. I have an analog mixer, tube preamps, effects pedals, etc. so I don't need to have them in the audio interface. Midi I/O would also be nice but not necessary. What are my choices in a basic 2-channel Firewire(800)/USB(2.0) audio interface?

Any one have experience running Ubuntu or another Linux on an aluminum iMac? (Aluminum keyboard, wireless mouse, 2.66 Core 2 Duo) What works? What doesn't? I'm not a Linux neophyte. I ran it on my desktop for about ten years, then moved to Apple after banging my head on wireless drivers. (Bought three successive cards that the "community" said worked. They didn't.) I don't mind editing scripts, but I want all my hardware to work immediately after an install or after I grab some supported packages. I'm through chasing around for unsupported code that some guy says works on his hardware. Is my Time Capsule going to be at all useful? (Posted this question on the Ubuntu forum and got only two rather unhelpful replies.)

My iMac spits out the vast majority of CDs you put in the drive. I'd rather not lug it to the store (out of warranty)... any known solutions for this madness? Sometimes I have to put the same CD in the drive 20 times until it's recognized as a CD. It never spits out DVDs. It's a 3 year old 24" iMac.
