I'm looking for information on Mike Girty, outlaw and "half-breed" who lived in the first half of the 19th Century and was supposedly involved in the Black Hawk war in Illinois. Libraries (at least the ones I can access) are strangely quiet about him, and the web only has a few mentions of him. Anyone have an idea about where I could find a good biography? Thanks!

I'm looking for a good Chicago apartment and landlord ... and also, thoughts on how to practically avoid stinkers when you can't talk to and/or don't know the tenants.

So I bought a truck from my brother-in-law and brought it over to Chicago from San Francisco last August. I have a transfer of title from him but I have never registered the vehicle (oops). Now I'm leaving the country and selling the truck to a friend. What's the easiest way to transfer title to him?

I'm having trouble getting health insurance in Illinois. I'm 25 years old, 6', 175 pounds, don't smoke, and in pretty good health, but I'm being categorically denied coverage because I've been taking Paxil CR for several months now. It's really changed my life, but now I seem to have been blacklisted. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Is anyone aware of a method (online or otherwise) for determining to whom a vehicle is registered if you know the license plate number - without actually being a law enforcement officer yourself? Google's only turned up for-pay services (that start at US$30 or so). The vehicle is registered in Illinois, if that impacts the answer...

ChicagoMachineFilter: I left Chicago nearly four years ago, and just last night I received a bill from the Chicago Dept. of Revenue (aka Soprano Family, Midwestern Branch) via some law firm called Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson demanding $670 in fines and penalties for parking tickets incurred in 1995. (the more, she is inside.)

Chicago? Going to be there March 4th through 7th. What to do? Where to eat? I'd like some good greek or chinese food, or both. Oh, and I need to find a sports bar there that will be showing the Duke/Carolina game on Saturday night.

i have a
pentax ME super and about a dozen lenses for it. however, it has the defective gasket. since most of the ME supers around have the defective gasket, i'd rather replace it with a
fully manual SLR that does not run the risk of a defective part.
i know that sears sold a SLR that fit the same lenses, but i'm having trouble tracking down the name, body style, &c. anyone know? or have suggestions of another camera which will take my lenses? or know a good used camera dealer in or around chicago, illinois?
