How do I politely and professionally handle a situation with a mentally ill person when hosting public events? [more inside]
Hi, I'm a 20 year old college student (female). I'm at home on bed rest this weekend because I had a bad reaction to steroids (prednisone) for an allergic reaction. (kind of ironic right?) I'm feeling lethargic, dizzy and nauseous. Basically I'm miserable and wish I was in the hospital. What should I do so I can recover quickly to start going back to school Monday... and not be bored out of my mind? Should I literally stay in bed? I don't mind but it loses it's novelty after a while. [more inside]
When I start to feel a cold coming on, the last thing I want to do is spend time and energy trying to figure out the best treatment approach. I am seeking a guide that will help me identify and self-treat common/mild illnesses (both attacking the root cause and alleviating symptoms) as well as indicate when it would be wise to see a doctor. I would prefer a printout rather than an interactive tool like WebMD.
I get a lot of books at the library. A LOT. For a while, it was 30-40 new ones/week but with overlap I'd have up to 50 out at once. With the smallest kids mostly out of picture books, I'm down to "only" having ~30 out at once, about 15-20 of which are new/week. I've always assumed it helps the library to have that much traffic because it helps show they need funding. However, I also do a lot of ILL... [more inside]
Feeling ill yesterday and today, with a fever, slight cough, stuffed nose, sore joints. Taking dayquil and nyquil, and keeping track of my temperature every few hours. What temperature means "go to the hospital?" What other symptoms re: the cough and nose might man go to the hospital? [more inside]
I would like access to a supplemental resource for a textbook that I purchased, for non-school-related use, but only instructors for a course can have access. [more inside]
In two days I will be taking a series of flights to travel from Australia to Europe for a very much needed month long break. Unfortunately I have a bad cold, secondary infections in my throat and sinuses and generally feel like crap. Given that 27 hours of travel time is not likely to be kind to me, how can I avoid turning up in Edinburgh in even worse shape? [more inside]
Librarians: Do you know of any current publications that rank borrowing performance - specifically ILL turnaround time - for academic libraries? [more inside]
What can you do if you're ill enough to want to rest in bed, but not so ill you can just lie there?...I'm getting frustrated. [more inside]
Sitting here at work and feeling really nauseated for some reason. Already tried Tums, didn't work. I'm going to run to the store and get something to take care of it so I can finally eat a late lunch. What's the best OTC for nausea? [more inside]
I need help managing persistent nausea. [more inside]
I want to learn more about modern interlibrary loans standards, software, processes, and the big players in Canada and USA. Where do I start? [more inside]
In search of something to read to my ill grandmother. [more inside]
My mom has been in constant pain for the past two months (likely from a virus). I'm hoping someone may have a suggestion to help her get back to a normal life. Details to follow... [more inside]
Weird coffee question for baristas or home espresso machine owners: I decalcified my machine the other day and then got sick a couple of days later. Coincidence or connection? More inside: [more inside]
A tale of woe: I was walking in the woods and came upon a solitary cultivated plant which appeared to be marijuana by the shape of it's leaves. For reasons I can't explain (I've never enjoyed being stoned anyway), I picked one of the largely desicated 'buds' smoked it and within minutes felt horribly, horribly nauseated. What happened to me? Much like this question, I want to deliver a care package to a family member who is ill. However, I'm in Chicago, and she's in New York (Brooklyn, to be precise). I'd love to send her some matzoh ball soup, decongestants, tea, and other goodies for the infirm. Any suggestions? (My yahoo search inadvertently went to the web as a whole an I found this and I was all "Sweet!" until I realized it was just an idea.)
(Writing/Hypothetical Filter) Are there any poisons that (could) mimic the symptoms/effects of cancer if administered to a person over time? [more inside]
If you have caught a slight cold rather than rampant flu, will it do you any harm to continue exercising? Is the answer the same for both aerobic exercise and doing weights?
Sore throat. Uh-oh. My throat started getting sore yesterday around 3. Professionally, I need to be able to speak for the next three days (as I'm instructing a class all day long.) I already drink *tons* of water when I speak. What other things can I do?
We had our office party last night, and I got a little wrecked. Anybody got a remedy for an upset stomach? [more inside]
