Hello, Hive.
I'm working on a historical graphic novel and a portion of it involves four sentences in German. I've made an effort to hammer something out by testing Google Translate's gibberish against some German language textbooks and grammar sites. I'm sorta confident about them, but would love for any bilingual native German speakers to give them a once over. Particularly, if you have any insights into generational differences in the German language, as this piece is supposed to take place during WWII.
Posting them after the jump.

Does anyone know how to disable automatic software updating on the AT&T Pantech Pursuit II? I already disabled data services to save money, but as a result the updater can't connect to the internet. Every 4-8 hours it reminds me and it's really annoying.

I have a lead medallion (about 150mm dia) which has the following inscription : side #1 ESAVO MC SM [] SORDCMPUAESE {picture of a pikeman} SV side#2 PCM POMEVSAVSEBVCIM * 1309 * {picture of a king} ED The A/R and U/V are a bit interchangable and the last M has three loops.
Please find some scans here If anyone could translate or tell me more about it I would be very grateful.
All the best

Where do I find data about 1940s newspaper circulation? I want to see what was going on with newspaper readership in the 1940s, before, during and after WWII. I think that newspaper readership went up during the war and am trying to find data to prove it! I'm looking for 1940s circulation statistics for some of the big newspapers (NY times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune & Christian Science Monitor). I am finding very little reliable information. Is there a reference librarian in the house who could point me towards a reference book or source?
