A pin that might be a little too sharp to wear on an airplane now

Can you help identify this old airline pin? It's an angular bird with a curved beak and blue markings on the tail, about the size of a normal airline "wings" pin, probably from the 1960s or earlier. [more inside]

Help me research this tomato mold.

Identifyfilter: What kind of mold is this on the tomato? What else can you tell me about that kind of mold? I'm curious partly because it's so pretty and also because I'd like to put the picture on Wikipedia as an example of...whatever it is.

Well, it's not a platypus, but what is it?

When and where does this little ornamental object (maybe a brooch) come from? Any guesses? I cut the picture out of a National Geographic several years ago, but I know nothing about it, and I'm getting curious because I like it a lot. [more inside]
