The cold weather seems to have caused horrible, alien looking bugs to invade our basement. They are fairly slow moving (unless startled) and look like spiders and grasshoppers mated to produce alien children. They are brown in color, have enormous, Daddy-long-legs type legs (but only six of them), and get pretty far off the ground when they jump. Can anyone tell me exactly what is sneaking up on me when I'm working at my desk at night? [more inside]

What is this thing I found on my chain link fence this morning? It's near a spiderweb, but it doesn't look like what I thought spider eggs look like.

What was the commercial around 10 years ago that had a creepy old guy talk about packing off his family someplace, with the vague insinuation that they might have come to a bad end? I think it was for computer printers or something, and he had taped pictures of the family up around the house and was reveling in being alone. The dialog went something like "Sent the grandkids off camping with their aunt Carrie. Yah, yah, yaaaaaaaah." The "Yah, yah, yaaaaaah" was said in sort of a satisfied sigh and was highly imitable.
Help me identify this horror movie from my youth. [more inside]
In college my friend had a bunch of those random skate videos that mixed found footage, some skating and Big Brother style pranks and crap. This one was called "Darth Vedda" or something like that. And it contained a clip from a movie that I became obsessed with. The clips is of this dude getting into a hot-tub with two girls and he propositions them by saying "Jacuzzaruski?" I don't think it's from a porn, it has more of a Andy Sidaris kind of feel. I'd really love to watch this movie...anyone recognize it? Thanks!
What are these creepy little bugs on my flowering plants? They don't appear to be causing much damage, but they're gross and are creeping me out. They steer clear of the herbs and veggies, and only seem to swarm on a couple of flowering plants, mostly on the leaves and stems.
Can anyone here identify these (apparent) birds of prey? The photograph was taken in Salem Massachusetts, but more than one mile away from any saltwater shore. [more inside]
Based on the current influx of questions about stand-up comedians, I've been reminded of a question that has been plaguing me for a while. But unfortunately, I don't have much information. - Male. 40+ yrs old. Dressed plainly. - Opened for Lewis Black at the Univ. of Connecticut in the Fall/Winter of 2006 or 2007 - Shtick was borderline psychotic. Like he was extremely angry and ready to snap. Genuinely scared me a little at the beginning. He never really left this personality. - Worked the crowd a little and even left the stage to walk through the crowd. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

SongIDFilter: Can anyone identify this song? It's from a compilation CD, and I have no distinguishing information other than the song itself. It sounds quite familiar, but no-one I've asked has been able to place it. It seems rather cinematic, making me think that it's from a film score, but that's really all I have to go on. Any leads would be much appreciated.

At a cocktail party last weekend, an Anthropologist was telling me about an experiment/study where people were shown videos of various animals preying on one another, and then measured their reactions. The findings, he contends, were that humans were largely more sympathetic to the deaths of animals more similar to themselves (i.e. sharing a more recent common ancestor). What is this study, what is this area of research called, and where can I read more about it? [more inside]

I vaguely remember an animated movie I saw in the '80s. I'm pretty sure it was on Beta, so it was the early '80s at that. It was almost, but not quite, Ralph Bakshi-style animation. A lot of the stories, which I think were just brief vignettes, were based on Greek mythology. I distinctly remember really creepy medusae. One story, involving temptation of some kind, had a really sultry female voice seducing the female character on-screen into some kind of unpleasant action. [more inside]
