The main melody goes something like G# A G# F# D# G# (the last G# is lower), which is then repeated several times transposed to different notes. What is this piece?
WhatIsThisSongFilter: What song is this?(link goes to my blog where I'm humming it) Recent-ish male singer, R&B/rock, angsty, heard in the US. SoundHound and Midomi fail me.
When I was on vacation in Chicago last year I stopped by the Field Museum and happened to catch a video in the Senegal exhibit of a musician playing and singing a song that I thought was really beautiful. I recall that he was playing the kora and that the lyrics pertained to a shaman or similar person. I have tried looking on the Field Museum website and sending them an email but no dice so far. Does anyone know who is in the video and/or the name of the song?

It's sung by a woman in some kind of retro rock-y style that I can't quite articulate. It's a list of foods that girls either.. like or don't like, and the chorus is about popcorn.. I think. Challenge: pretty sure this is from a Portland, OR band, as I heard this on the local Portland-centric radio station KZME. [more inside]
Heard a Sting (The Police?) song at the bar, never heard it before. Funky '80s sound, totally fit my mood that night. My google-fu failing me, I turn to the wisdom of metafilter.... [more inside]
We're trying to re-discover an album, but only have a vague description of the the album cover. Does anyone recognize this? "it was mostly instrumental music, band had an abstract name. The cover art was a faded pink and grey background with a stag disipatiung into flowers or butterflies ...I'm guess it is not a popular band"
I've only recently started listening the the Beastie Boys' Ill Communication (after picking it up damn near two decades ago), and in the track Futterman's Rule, I'm hearing what I swear is a Zappa theme, but I'm darned if I can figure out which one. I thought it was Apostrophe, but it doesn't seem to be, and Google is offering no evidence that I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing. Anyone able to identify the Zappa theme, if there is one in there? I'm going nuts.
I think it's a recent song - The chorus has has a woman singing in a simple voice. She sounds young and has a neutral accent - the non-chorus parts of the song I think is a reggae hip hop deal, but not sure. [more inside]
Name this song: female singer, sounds kinda new, on an indie radio station. Lyrics say something about "the worst" or "what's worse?" and "people say I'm _____ because I have no plans to settle down." [more inside]

I'm looking for a recording of a song, but I can't find it anywhere, or even who might have recorded it! In Get Up by Chinese Man there's a sample of a song (starts about 20 seconds in). From googling the lyrics I've found the song seems to be called Lazy Lout, but that's pretty much all I can find. [more inside]

I saw a guy with an olive green shirt that had several rifles lined up in silhouette on front. In the middle of the rifles was a pink silhouette of a guitar. The back left shoulder had a small badge that said "Music is the weapon of the future" on it. Where can I find this shirt for sale? The person wearing it said it was a gift and he didn't know where it came from.

What is the sound first heard in Lazy Lover by the Brazilian Girls (heard at a later part in the song in samples found here)? I saw them live last night and it was, as I expected, sampled/synthesized and possibly hawaiian in origin.triggered via keyboard... It may be a unique sound, but I could have sworn I've heard it somewhere else, and that it's a real instrument, and I associate it with hawaii for some reason.
Please help me ID this song. Very slow french duet, a coarse sounding french male voice, with a light beautiful female. They go back and forth with sentence/answer lyrics in a loving tone. Set over melodic acoustic guitar track. Vague, but it's all I got.
I bought a tape at goodwill the other day. It's in a chinese dialect and there is no english on the packaging. It's got a great Mandarin/Chinese cover of Addicted to Love and I'm hoping you guys can help translate the artist's name, and hopefully the name of the album, too. Copyright 1987, by the way. Here's a scan of the sleeve.
