I work at a school whose mascot is the Longhorn. We are setting up a text messaging service and I'm looking for a catchy name for the new service. Difficulty: there's already a "cattle call" newsletter, and I'd like to set the new service apart as something new and unique. Any ideas?

I just got a smartphone. What are some great ways you've found to use your phone? I've got a good array of basic apps, so I'm not so much looking for recommendations, but instead for your ideas about how to integrate the phone and its combinations of apps into a productive and creative way of life. I'm helping a friend with an undergraduate film school remake of The Avengers. I've been cast as Miss Peel, and I'm searching for the perfect costume to fit the character. Unfortunately, my school is in the middle of nowhere - shopping in person isn't really an option.
Any thoughts for how I can assemble or where I might find a hip 1960s-looking catsuit on the internet?

I've got software engineering expertise and a solid understanding of business fundamentals. I'm looking to drive the project & team(s) - not build the idea myself (assuming its software-based).
Any thoughts on how to find the best idea and wisely invest these funds?

I live in Washington, DC, and I'd like to get together with people and talk about interesting ideas, preferably somewhere where networking bullshit is kept to a bare minimum. I don't care what they do for a living or what big ideas they're fluent in, just want them to be interesting. Does this thing exist and, if not, how do I create it? [more inside]

I want to create a web page that colleagues can use to create short improvement ideas and then have those ideas voted up or down by other users.
Is there a free software package that I can install on a server that would enable us to do this? Bonus points for open source.

I'm a web developer with enough proven abilities to develop good stuff that end users like. I'm employed, but want to start a business with a couple of friends with complementary skill sets in the technical side of things. We'd like to create one or more web-based products used by small-to-mid-size businesses and/or individual consumers, paid for on a monthly basis using a "software as a service" model.
We've got more than enough combined development and graphical/UX design abilities, but we have no solid product ideas that we feel confident enough about to start doing the enormous amount of work involved in any of them. The main problem with any idea we get is this question: how on Earth do you convince anybody to pay you money for the product? [more inside]

How do you digitize your research notebook? I've got a small notebook that I carry around with me with about 2 years' worth of notes, ideas, references for papers or books, and scribbles from various meetings, conversations, etc. I had a heart attack moment today when I thought I'd lost it. What's the best way to organize all this stuff digitally? I'm on a Mac, if it makes a difference, but general advice is appreciated. [more inside]

I have some ideas I want to bring to fruition. Is it best to focus on each one at a time until I either complete it or go as far as I can go with it? Or is it better to schedule my time so I work on each of them a little each day and move them all forward at once?

I want to go to there, but I need your advice on where "there" is. Starting point: Toronto. Range: any land within 100 km (60-ish miles) of High Park, but I can go further for something really special. Means of transport: my trusty steed
. Time frame: now until November-ish. I'm looking for great routes or awesome destinations, urban, rural or suburban, like the best roti in Scarborough, a tiny potter's studio somewhere in Peel, or a gorgeous path by some body of water that isn't Lake Ontario. I want to go somewhere to do something neat, like picking apples or riding horses. And this is not Torontofilter or bikefilter.
I'm looking for creative ideas from anyone, anywhere. [more inside]

I'm in the UK and, for Halloween, will be putting together what the Americans might call a "spook house". I'm looking for suggestions on great effects / props / installations to create truly classy, creepy illusions such as the ones described here
- but I'm struggling to find other similar sites. Secondly I'm seeking ideas for smaller scale sideshows or games - anything icky that a small group of people can watch or participate in around a table. What have you seen or done that I could re-create this Halloween?
