This is my birthday celebration weekend and my birthday is next week. What are some things I can do, fun or serious, reflective or hedonistic, to mark and celebrate my birthday in a great way? Not ideas for the whole day but rather ideas for little rituals or traditions you use or know of to help cap off the year and start the new one off with a cool start?
My colleagues and I are looking for a simple way to clip and share ideas with each other. The keyword here is simple. Any recommendations? [more inside]
My kid really wants a rubix cube themed bedroom. I said I would see what I can do. So....... any ideas on what I can do? I love this kid more than breathing so I'd really like to make it special. [more inside]
My best friend recently had her poem published for the first time (and got paid!). I'm very excited for her! I'm seeing her tonight for dinner and would like to give her a nice congratulatory gift. I was planning on a simple bouquet of flowers but I'm wondering if there are other ideas? Ideally something I could pick up after work and give tonight but I would also consider something to give her later if it was special enough to wait for. [more inside]
We have been gathering some items to give away at our company picnic to about 150 employees, we will be able to make sure every employee gets a prize. [more inside]
I'd really like to try making an acai bowl, since I'm curious to know what the big deal is about them. Also, they look pretty. I can't use the recipes that I'm finding online, since they all seem to include bananas, and some also include nuts. Any good ideas? [more inside]
I'm interviewing for a supervisor position with the bookmobile in a nearby city. It's been re-launched in the last year or so, and they have a staff of 5. I love bookmobiles but I haven't worked on one. What are your best ideas for programming and outreach? What are the coolest things you've seen bookmobiles do? [more inside]
I'm leading a cooking class for college students this coming week. I've already have the menu planned--the theme is budget friendly and quick. Problem is that I noticed that there is going to be dead time for one group and I'm not sure what to have them do. Added notes: smaller group (about 14) and wanting to match the food. [more inside]
I just had a baby 7 months ago, and the amount of clothes I have that are either in GREAT condition, or have never been worn is sickening. I keep buying and buying, and she keeps growing and growing. I thought a lovely idea would be to bring other mothers in the community together to do some sort of exchange maybe 4 times a year, but I need some help brainstorming how to set this up. I've got a HUGE blank wall that is up high in my two story family room. I've had the idea to create a Rube Goldberg treatment on the wall, but I need help with specific ideas. There's a place where one can trip a trigger by launching a ball or some such on the second floor, but no way to easily maintain a mechanism that would require resetting. Help me crowd source some mechanics that will set this f*cker off! [more inside]
I just moved to Los Angeles and want to spend some time with this girl who is a lifelong resident of the city. She lives in Los Feliz, works in TV, and loves TV. Both of us are 34. Hivemind, do you have a good idea?
I'm looking for fun excursions, eateries, etc to undertake during MLK weekend in Portland OR with my wife. Any ideas? [more inside]
Our 10-month-old son's bedtime recently changed from 6pm to 8pm, and it has really changed our dynamic at home. Instead of hanging out and catching up (which we were able to do before), my wife and I are spending most of our evenings trading off on watching him while one of us cooks or catches up on other house chores. Any ideas or tips on ways we can spend time with him and keep him occupied and still be adults spending time together in the evenings? [more inside]
Hi! Can anyone recommend a holiday in mid January for two exhausted parents of a four year old and a one year old? We were thinking Centreparcs until we remembered it's based on a self-catering model and really could do with being cooked for for 5 days/a week! [more inside]
It is my niece's very first Christmas this year, and I want to use her image and make personalized gifts for everyone: Mugs, Shirts, Calendars, phone cases, etc. I've used Walmart to make personalized mugs, but they were expensive and really annoying to order from (I'm ordering from Ontario, Canada). Can anyone recommend a reputable personalized-gift website that can take orders online? It would be great if they had a wide variety of items to personalize. Thanks in advance!!!
I'm short on resources this year, so instead of gifts for the holiday, I'm trying to come up with a list of unexpected/fun/silly/special/uncommon experiences-- which I will then attach a small gift card to with instructions to use it on something from the list. However, I need help coming up with more than the handful I've thought up... (MA locals are especially encouraged to respond.) [more inside]
I need to write a very long paper in this area but am grasping at straws before I've started. [more inside]
My parents' anniversary is coming up, and once again I'm stumped. I never know what makes an appropriate, welcome gift to parents from their kids. Outside of big-anniversary gifts like parties, crystal, silver, and super handcrafted scrapbooks and the like, what are some good ideas for anniversary presents in an affordable, say $25-50 range?
I'm going to be spending a week in Tokyo Oct 23-30, and my plan is mainly to eat delicious food and wander around. I lived there for 2 years 1997-99 so I've pretty much seen all the major tourist stuff. Current locals, what are your favorite things to do or eat? [more inside]

OK, we have a low-power community radio station starting up, and even though doing radio was never on my bucket list, it's such an exciting project (and group of people) that I've decided to get a show while there are still open slots in the schedule. The only problem is that I can't settle on a good name, and it's really important to me that I have one that works. [more inside]
I've been in software for about two decades. It's been a depressing ride. How can I find a better place? [more inside]
I need suggestions for something green or vegetable-y to include in my lunch box every day. [more inside]
A friend recently downsized from a large house to a small apartment near the beach. That makes two adults and a dog living in a (700 sf? I can't be sure) home. What is a gift that I could give that wouldn't just be clutter, or better yet could improve their household? Obviously it should be small, and it has to be something the TSA won't confiscate because I will be flying across the U.S. to visit.
About a month after our small civil family-only wedding ceremony, we're throwing a party at a bar so we can celebrate/get drunk/dance with about 50-60 of our friends. Open bar and our playlist: done and done. We'd like to put some creative, inexpensive touches on this event to make it feel more like a wedding and less like a big birthday party. (Inexpensive is key. We love the idea of a photo booth for example, but they're rather pricey to rent.) I'm hopelessly uncreative. Any ideas?
I am trying to design a part of a package for a bottle. Basically, once you open the box, you find the bottle resting on a dock (or a tray if you will), much like how the iPhone rests on a plastic tray once you open the box. [more inside]
For ten days this summer my wife will be traveling with my daughters to a family thing, leaving me at home with our six-year-old son. But we do not plan to stay home. We will Go. Do. Something. But what? [more inside]

I am looking for ideas for a (fun!) baby shower game for my boss who is expecting. The shower is happening in a restaurant with a small group of co-workers so it can't be too involved or outlandish. There's also that whole I-work-with-you atmosphere that makes things that I would normally think of for friends seem strange. Would be thrilled to see if anyone has suggestions. Thanks in advance.
I have about 100 brand new very high quality USB drives (between 8gb and 256GB...most of them are the larger end). What can I do with them? I bought them thinking they were going to fail, and I was going to go through them. But I found out that high quality shit doesn't fail within 6 mos. [more inside]
My girlfriend hates her job and feels trapped by it - it's really depressing her at the minute! Help her come up with some ideas for a new job / career to pursue. She's good at languages, good with people and has experience of managing... [more inside]

I have been paired up with a co-worker to be a Secret Santa. Caveat, she is my boss. And she is pregnant. Everyone on my immediate team are public health nerds and/or general data geeks with a sense of humor, so any ideas for a quirky, funny, yet work and situation appropriate gifts are most welcome! Thank you in advance.

How can I get better at organizing my ideas in writing? I want to be able to write essays, long-form blog posts, articles, etc. I want to be able to use in-depth writing as a tool to accomplish things, instead of just enduring it when it comes up. I'm interested in resources (classes? books?), techniques, and advice. [more inside]
We have friends with restaurants who would buy fingerlings, table flowers, herbs, etc. We have an artesian well. We have a giant ancient hops vines we could grow more with clippings. That's about all our ideas for now. Thank you.
Aside from freezing to make a banana ice cream sort of thing, what can I make using a single ripe banana? I don't like eating bananas plain once they've started turning brown, I don't want to make banana bread, and I don't want to buy anything extra (probably) or do anything very elaborate or calorie intensive (Bananas Foster, for example). I've been working on this little project called CheckIn, which is supposed to be a quick and easy to use Foursquare app that let's you check in quickly and adds interesting features like check in reminders (and instant checkins in iOS 8 - currently working on notification actions in my working build). My step-daughter's 16th birthday is right around the corner. Like, 8 days away. We always ask her what she wants to do on her birthdays and usually she comes up with something like renting out a place to play laser tag or going to the water park or whatever and we are more than happy to give that to her and she invites friends and there is food and drink and merriment and Huzzah! This year, it could go bad. I need some help! [more inside]

Lately I have been catching myself remembering that I am going to die one day. I think, like like Steve Jobs that remembering this fact is important. I'd like to get a tattoo on my hand, or somewhere visible as a daily reminder, "you are going to die one day". However I would like to find a symbol that represents the opportunity and responsibility of that fact, not the fear of it (like a skull). Any help?
