What to see between OR and WI?

Driving across the country: Cool places to see/things to do on Highway 12? In a couple weeks my parents and I are gonna be driving from Oregon to Wisconsin by way of the Twin Cities, probably on Highway 12 (though maybe 212 through South Dakota). What sights should we make sure to stop for?

Growing up in Washington state in the 70’s and 80’s I watched a PBS show about a grandma that visited sites of interest (Columbia Gorge, White Bird Pass, etc.) in the Northwest with her grandchildren. Production quality, as I remember it, was rather crude. Does anyone else remember this show? What was the name? Thanks!

I'm looking for a picture of yard signs or other materials from Senator Crapo's campaign (I have to prove to my coworkers that I am not crazy). I am completely convinced that I once saw a picture of a Mike Crapo sign that had a horizontal line over the a - so people would know it's pronounced "Cray-po," not "Crappo." Except now I can't find any evidence of this anywhere, and the coworkers who at first thought this was a hilarious story now just think I'm making it up.

I think I may have originally seen it on a liberal blog, but I could be totally wrong. I'm kind of starting tp wonder if it was maybe just some sort of joke, not his actual campaign sign, but even so I can't find the picture that I *know* I saw somewhere.

Having wasted a good deal of my workday scouring the web to no avail, I'm hoping that some MeFite who is Idahoan (is that right?) or more of a campaign junkie than I am might know where I can find some proof.

This year's vacation plan: Fly to PDX and drive to Teton, Yellowstone, Glacier, and back via Seattle and Mt. Rainier. What should we not miss along the way? Specifically, I'm clueless about what there is to do in Idaho and along the route between western Montana and Seattle.

i'm driving from portland, or to washington, dc via minneapolis, mn. i'm a little bit worried about that first leg. i'm completely unfamiliar with that stretch of land. it just looks so big. and empty. and big. i'm driving by myself. so i'm also a bit weary of that. i've never done a big trip like this so i'm not sure how long i'll be able to go at a time - i'm guessing 8 hours. is that reasonable? assuming so, where should i stop? i don't need to do any siteseeing, really. really just looking to get through there as quickly and cheaply (and safely!) as possible.

What's it like to live in Idaho Falls? I have recently accepted a position in Idaho falls. I have loved similar threads where people give their experiences living in specific places. So I'm looking for something similar here.

About me:

I'll be working in high tech. If you know about the area, you probably know where. I really enjoy the outdoors, and have wanted to live in/near the mountains my entire life. I can take a hard winter (you wouldn't believe me if I told you how much snow we get here).

I'm kind of a loner sometimes, and I do best with a few good friends. I don't need an entourage around all the time, and I'm in no hurry to find "the one" or anything crazy like that.

I am not religious, although I am very tolerant of religious people. Something I am wondering about, considering the data seems to say the area is 50% LDS, is this: How insular is the LDS community? Will I be able to make LDS friends even though I am not associated, or is there a distinct separation between LDS and non-LDS? Please don't use this thread as an LDS bashing thread. I'm not into that sort of thing.

I'm kind of assuming rents are reasonable and cost of living is low. Is this a good assumption?

I have never fly-fished, but it looks like something I might really enjoy. I hear there is a lot of good fishing around there.

Overall, how did you like Idaho Falls?

As previously discussed, Eattheweak and I will be finding our way from Denton, TX to Olympia, WA. We're trying to nail down the particulars. Help us pick our route and then tell us what to do on it! We have two paths we keep knocking back and forth. Both routes go across texas, up to Santa Fe (it's where I'm planning to spend my birthday, any suggestions for what to do there?), skirt across Colorado and stop somewhere in southern Utah. Now the first option(warning: yahoo maps link, it could take a while to load) is to go west, straight across Nevada, to California. From there it's north to Olympia. The other option(yahoo maps) is to go north in Utah, through Idaho, over the line in Washington and across to Olympia.

Do these routes seem to work? We plotted them on an atlas and on Yahoo Maps but we're sure there's a lot we're not taking into account.

As we've managed to figure out here are the things to keep in mind:

Route A seems to have less high mountains. Route B leaves less of a chance of being stranded in a desert. Route B would let us visit his brother. I am concerned also of how boring a drive through Utah/Idaho will be. He is concerned about the day we'll drive through Nevada and not see another living soul.

So, hivemind, what to do? I have a 99 V6 Chevy Malibu. It's getting serviced and new tires before we go. We're loading everything in the car, so it will be weighed down, but we won't be pulling anything behind us.

Also: if you've managed to read this far, what the hell do we do for entertainment on the way? Any awesome places we just have to stop off? We're thinking lots of mixtaps and a couple books on tape (so far we have John Hodgeman's book and On the Road). What else do we do?

A Small Claims Quandry

Okay - Small claims question here - maybe the MeFi legal eagles can help me out... Business A is sued by Business B is small claims court in the state of Idaho. Plaintiff, (Business B) doesn't bother to show up to the trial. Plaintiff's case is marked "dismissed with prejudice" on judgement. Business B has subsequently refiled the same case with the same court. Not appealed, but simply filed again. The court clerks are unable to clarify whether this is an oversight on their part (allowing business B to file the case again) or if it's even legal to do so. They can however, verify that this is not filed as an appeal of the original case. Clerk intends to confer with original Judge next week. Thoughts?

Mixtape filter: I need songs that reference any of the states of California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Utah. The boyfriend and I are taking a roadtrip to all of these places. I want to include some songs on this mix about the states we will be visiting. Even a one line mention is okay, or even songs that allude to geographical areas or special traits about the state. Bonus points if it's folk or metal.
