I deleted a couple of years' worth of emails from iCloud to free up space but my iPhone reports that Mail is still eating up 2.8GB. How can I claim those iCloud gigabytes back for myself? [more inside]
I didn't ask it to, but my iPhone lately keeps trying to download more music to its library. Any clues? [more inside]

Half the apps on my iMac that sync with iCloud have corrupt or missing .plist files that prevent them from launching. Signing out of iCloud, restarting, and logging back in to reset synced data did not resolve problems. Running First Aid on drive returns no errors. What next? [more inside]

I have a 200GB Photos library in iCloud, so in order to have access to my library on my iPad, I have to optimize space. I'd like to make a few of my albums always available in full resolution on my iPad. Is there a painless way to do this? [more inside]
Looking for the most reliable and easy to use automatic photo/video backup solution for iPhone. Contenders include Dropbox, Amazon, Flickr, icloud, Google, and probably others. We take tons of photos of the kidlet, and want to ensure they're backed up somewhere between syncing to the computer. Bonus points for a solution that can easily be imported to iPhoto for wife and Lightroom for me. [more inside]
My MacBook Pro was stolen last night. The disk was encrypted with FileVault and the login passwords were non trivial (good enough for petty thieves though probably not hackers skilled in the art). I told iCloud to lock it down and erase it on first contact. Will the thief and his friends be able to do anything with this machine, or is it just a paperweight at this point? [more inside]
Finally signed up for iTunes Match, enabled it on my 32gb phone and now music is downloading to my phone. It's eaten all my remaining space and when I deleted 2 gbs, MORE music started downloading to my phone to fill up the remaining space. How do I get this to stop and make the music (via song or album)available for download, without actually downloading it? NOTE: I do not have Apple music, just iTunes Match. [more inside]

I just updated my Mac OS to El Capitan. When I opened the Calendar app, all of the events were gone, until I checked the “Calendar” box under iCloud, then they reappeared. When I check “Calendar” under the “On My Mac” section (and uncheck the box under iCloud), they don’t appear. Why is this happening? [more inside]
Is there a reason for me to pay $11.99/year for 5GB of cloud storage on Amazon when 5GB of storage is free on iCloud? Is there something I'm missing?

How do I transfer Outlook Exchange contacts into my iCloud account? [more inside]
I've been syncing my iphone via itunes on my windows laptop for years. I've also used the same itunes install to hold my media library (mounted via a NAS on the wifi router.) I use Outlook to manage contacts. Just got a mac mini to use as a media server. I want to sync through that now. I'm not sure if going through icloud is the right choice. Is it? [more inside]
I haven't yet pulled the trigger on iOS 8, but I'm trying to understand the changes to Camera Roll and Photos app before I upgrade. I have read the Ars Technica review among others and still am not clear on the changes to Photos. [more inside]
If I'm on my workstation at the office, using Pages through iCloud.com on a web browser, how likely is it that my IT department can see what I'm typing? I'm fairly sure they can see that I'm on iCloud.com using Pages if they look. But can they see the text I'm typing into a Pages document? [more inside]
A strange mismatch is going on between my Mac Contacts and my iPhone contacts. Even though I'm using a single Apple ID on both machines, certain contacts exist on the iPhone but not the Mac and vice-versa. I haven't been able to find the explanation for this. [more inside]
I'm getting frequent alerts on my iPhone that my free 5gb of iCloud storage is full. Most of this is from years of photos on my phone--in fact, that's pretty much the only thing on my phone I would care about having backed up. I also think most/all of the images on my phone are already backed up to my computer in Lightroom. Is there a convenient/automatic way to handle what photos stay on my phone and what photos are backed up to iCloud? [more inside]
Mrs. Alms and I like to maintain a single contact list for both of us across our iPhones and Macintoshes. How can we do this without abusing my Apple ID and iCloud? [more inside]
I share a computer with my kids, and our iTunes library has both my music and theirs on it. I also subscribe to iTunes Match, which my kids don't use. I don't want their music to show up on my devices. Is there a way to keep music on iTunes on a Mac without also having it show up in iCloud? I know you can delete music from a computer and keep it in the cloud, but I'd like to do the opposite of that.
I have all this music on my iPhone. But when I go to play it, it has to download it from the cloud first. Although the playlists are there, nothing is actually being stored on the phone. So it takes ages and chews through lots of data when I just want to play a song. How do I get rid of all this cloud nonsense and just store old-fashioned music files on my iPhone? (Relevant: I have iTunes Match switched *off* in Settings -> Music on my iPhone.)
Just curious if I should use the iCloud? Will it make things complicated for me? Make it easier? Do I need it? Am I using it already?? [more inside]
I have an iphone and an ipad which I use daily. Due to work policies, my data is setup via Outlook (not Exchange) and synced via iTunes to both devices. I use iCloud to maintain mirrored info for websites, pictures, etc but NOT contacts. I'm getting tired of having to plug both devices in to sync them to the same data. Is there anyway to use iTunes to sync to my phone and then use iCloud to maintain data integrity across to the ipad? Or will this end up giving me duplicates in my Outlook contacts?
Like a moron, I just accidentally deleted a bunch of texts/iMessages from my iPhone 4 (not 4S). Is there any way to get them back? I'm backed up with iCloud. I've googled and looked at old AskMes but don't understand what I found. I need simple explanations.

I have a Mac with OSX Mountain Lion. My university uses Oracle Calendar 9.0.4. In the past, I have set up syncing to my iCloud calendar using my iPad with SyncML pro, so I know I can do this, in principle. What I'd like to do is find a way of syncing to my iCloud calendar without an iOS device - preferably an OSX application. Why is this so hard to figure out how to do? [more inside]

How can I control/observe my parents' iMac screen remotely from my own Mac when I'm at home? They made the switch and now I'd like to be able to share their screen to remotely help them figure out, fix and set up things as they need it. There's Back to My Mac, but as I understand it, this is for when both computers are my own and I sign into iCloud on both machines. It looks like I can use Messages, but I'm not clear on what kind of chat account I need? I'm aware of Skype, LogMeIn, etc., but can I do this without additional software? The Sharing panel in System Preferences? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Both iMacs are running Mountain Lion.
Mountain Lion iCloud question: I know iCloud stores files locally on my Mac, somewhere. Generally I use two document editors — iA Writer, which syncs to iCloud, and Notational Velocity, which doesn't. Can I set Notational Velocity to save its notes in iA's iCloud folder, so that it automatically syncs to iCloud and I can use iA's mobile apps to edit my notes on the fly?
Trying to make calendar syncing work across multiple devices and accounts is driving me up the wall. Please help! [more inside]
I'd like photos that I take on my iPhone to automatically turn up on my mom's iPhone. I'd prefer to do this without setting up my iCloud account on her phone, since we don't need to share contacts, calendars, etc. Ideally the solution would be completely transparent for her, and require little or no ongoing effort from me once it's set up. Any tips on the best way to do this?
Please explain modern file sharing (do I even mean that?) "in the cloud" to me as if I were 6 (or 86)! But first, let me tell you what I need. I'm sure it's very simple… [more inside]
In short: how do I sync all my contacts between Mac OS X Address Book, iOS, iCloud.com, and Gmail.com? Not as short: In olden days, I used the Address Book app on my Mac to store all my contacts. Everything in there would sync to MobileMe (and by extension, iPhone, iPad and me.com) and Google (for Gmail). After iCloud was released in October, turning on contact syncing between Address Book and iCloud resulted in a message that said if iCloud contact syncing is turned on Google syncing must be turned off. Googling tells me that lots of people are having this problem, but I'm not finding a solution within all the noise. What am I missing? Any settings to change? Any software? Thanks in advance.
