We are trying to have lab meetings over video-conferencing and no matter how much preparation, we always seem to eat 30 minutes of time fiddling with the setup. We've tried various iChat/Skype/gchat combinations and nothing has really stuck so far. What I really want to do is have one computer on each end video conferencing and sharing a powerpoint presentation.

Computer-illiterate mom has many, many small questions about her new iMac. I'm 2,000 miles away and spending hours of time explaining how to find her

I am in L.A., my buddy is in London. We're trying to video-chat via iChat. We can both see each other, I can hear her, but she can't hear me. We've checked the volume on her computer, and nothing is muted. My computer mic is working fine. What are we doing wrong?

Why does iChat send URLs twice? Whenever I send a URL to someone, it shows up twice on the recipient's side. Is there a way to stop this annoying repetition?

iChat has an annoying tendency to periodically disconnect itself from AIM and Jabber, bouncing in the dock to alert me. Reconnecting is always simple, but it's annoying. Anyone else have this problem, and ever find a solution?

My parents have a Windows machine in their office, but since I already have a firewire video camera and a Powerbook G4 running Tiger, I'd like to get them a Mac Mini so that they can see their 8-month old grandson in all his full screen, 30fps glory via iChat. Question: What are the best peripherals for them to use the Mini as a second computer in the **living room**? (which wireless keyboard, adapters for hooking the Mini to the TV, etc?)

So I'm interested in finally using my iChat to meet and hang out with folks online, as well as use my iSight for something more than scanning books. Does anybody know of fun ways to meet folks in iChat? Perhaps a community or two?

I deleted iChat a while back when I swore off internet chatting. Except now I'd like to have it back. And when I download iChat AV from the Apple site it says, "Sorry. Can't install. You don't have original iChat." How do I get the original iChat back? (Sorry this is so long-winded.)

OK, so my fiance just started med school 2000+ miles away from where I live. To stay in touch and keep our phone bills reasonable, we both got iChat AV cameras for our powerbooks. However, the neccesary ports (16384 to 16403) are not open on her school network. We contacted her IT department and a week later, the guy told her that he couldn't open those ports for security/bandwidth issues, leaving us high and dry. So, what would folks suggest we do in this situation? Is it really a security issue or just bandwidth? Are there any workarounds?

Ok in iChat you can "show your status in the menubar". While I really like this, it only shows my buddys who are available and not the idle or away buddies. Is there a way to change this? Also is there an equivalent thing for MSN messenger? I really like the ability to see who is on without having to switch to the application unless I have to. I am working on a 12inch iBook so screen space is very limited and thus switching from one app to another, and then rehiding them is not what I am looking for.
