Four days in Iceland from Friday: me and my girlfriend are travel writers and will eventually do a write up of the hotel, restaurants and attractions we visit. How can we best stray off the beaten path in only FOUR days?

On Friday on NPR a European banker was talking about "sub-prime countries" and mentioned Iceland in a list that included, for instance, the countries of E. Europe. I wasn't surprised about the latter, but thought it was interesting that Iceland got this designation. Can anyone explain to me the Iceland economy (in broad strokes) and why it might be considered "sub-prime"?

One of my favorite books is a collection called _The Sagas of Icelanders_. The cover is
here. There is a beautiful embossed set of work on the cover which i'd like more information about (i'm considering a design along these lines for a tattoo) and i'd also like more information on the design/carving of the (sword hilt, walking stick, etc) shown on the cover. There appears to be no information about either in the book.

I've looked at most of the ask mefi questions on Iceland, but would anyone have good suggestions for reliable tour guides in Reykjavik? My family and I are going for four days, and we want to make the most of our trip without worrying about getting place to place. I'm not a big fan of tour groups, but I also don't want to do the legwork for finding out where everything is and how to get there.

I would like to find out about good providers of photography tours and/or travel-based photography workshops abroad. Preferably, the workshops should be pitched at the level of an intermediate photographer.

I am thinking of visiting Iceland. Due to job assignments, I go to Finland a lot and usually have some free days I could use for travelling. Is it worth the trip? What is there to do besides dodging Bjork's music as much as I can? Last, but not least: I really need tips on the cheapest flights available, from Helsinki to Reykjavik.

I'm going to visit Iceland for the Sugarcubes concert this Friday. I'm looking for some recommendations for the rest of my stay in Iceland until Sunday afternoon. Definitely would like to see the Blue Lagoon, but not sure what else and how to get there in the first place. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Met an Icelandic pixie in a bar; she disappeared in a puff of twinkly frost. I need you to help me spell her name. She went by "Anna" (so did her equally tall, equally blonde Icelandic friend!) but her full name was pronounced something like: Beern-Ana. Ok, so...who's got a clue as to how that's spelled?

I got a parking ticket on a rental car in Reykjavik, Iceland recently (meter expired.) I'm back in the US now. The ticket is all in Icelandic (but there is a
web address) and I don't see any obvious location for a credit card # or really anything to make heads or tails of it. How do I pay it?

Last year, a friend of mine went to Iceland where she spent a night bar-hopping with expat friends. While she was heading for the ladies' room, an Icelandic woman came up to her and proposed that they go together. My friend refused (she'd been hit on several times already and the atmosphere was rather hot) and later asked her friends about the incident: she was told that going to the lavatories in pairs was a local custom of Icelandic girls, but that she would have to accept the next proposal to find out what was actually going on down there. Of course, her friends may have just been pulling her leg, but she's still curious as she'll be back in Iceland this year... Any (girl, Icelandic) mefite with a clue to that mystery?
