My hard drive is full. Can anyone recommend a (free?) utility or technique for clearing out all the waste on my computer (iBook running OS X 10.3.4)? (overflowing inside) [more inside]
A friend without a Metafilter account asks, "I have an ibook. It is white, but is slowly turning gray from use. Any suggestions on how to clean dirt off the surface?"
Can anyone recommend a TV tuner for a Mac? I have an iBook, so it has to be either a firewire or USB model (not a PC card), and i'm hoping to spend under a hundred bucks. I have no real interest in any TVR functions, as my hard drive is maxed out already and I have a TiVo at home. I'm at Dartmouth for a month - which is in the middle of nowhere - so it must be available online to be shipped immediately, preferably with expedited shipping.
Desperate Mac question: My iBook won't let me erase & reinstall Panther because computer is now running 10.3.3. [mi] [more inside]
MacFilter -- I have an iBook that is close to dead. I'm wondering if there are steps I can take to try to bring it back to life on my own or whether it's time to call in the pros... [Need I say that there's more inside?] [more inside]
Is there anything that makes recent models of Powerbooks superior to recent iBooks with a comparable processor? [more inside]

The ink is wearing off the keys on my Macintosh "iBook." Are they easy to replace?
Ack! I'm in bed with the flu and I want to watch my Office Space DVD, which I just unwrapped, but when I put it into my OSX iBook and try to play it, I get a weird window that looks sorta OS9-ey with the message: "System Check: press enter to scan for dvd virus." It's really creeping me out. As I'm sapped of all strength, I really don't want to go into the other room and try it on the console. Anyone have any idea wtf this is? The "enter" button it gives me is PINK fer gad's sake. [more inside]
Help a computer moron & first time poster. Ibook; OSX: every time I open my CD drawer, the finder relaunches.
Mail question: I recently got a new iBook and Mail for OS X has been behaving oddly. [more inside] [more inside]
I have a new ibook, and an old thinkpad. I need to move data as painlessly as possible to the new machine...[more inside] [more inside]
GarageBand woes. I have a white iBook G3 600MHz / 256MB RAM / 30GB hard disk. The machine does great with iMovie, Safari, Office, etc, but it's choking on GarageBand with "System Overload" errors. I try to play a 2-track composition with 1 instrument that's not a piano and it just stumbles and croaks. I'm sad, that Apple is leaving such a relatively new machine in the dust. My question is: should I bother upping the RAM? I know it will help at least somewhat, but will it make the difference between GarageBand exploding and GarageBand performing really smoothly? If not, I'd rather take the $100 I'd spend on new RAM and save it toward a new PowerBook G4. But then, is a G4/1GHz really going to be that much better than a G3/600MHz? Advice?
I'm about to buy an iBook - but I've done some research, and the price in the UK is £200 more than in the US! I've got relatives in NY - is it sensible to take advantage of them to get a cheap machine? [MI] [more inside]
I'm almost in the market for a laptop, and being that I've got a very nice Windows machine in front of me (and that i'm sick to death of it), I'm seriously considering 'Switching'. However, I've got a few questions for the Zealots of the audience: [MI] [more inside]
As an extension of this previous thread
: I've decided on an iBook. I have the opportunity to get a 14" 900MHz G3 refurb'd for $900. I can also get this discontinued model new for $1000. The comparable G4 iBook, which has almost exactly the same specs (save the processor, of course) is $1300. My $1000 could also buy me a 12" 800MHz G4.
I'm having trouble parsing the literature about the chips. I understand that, particularly with Macs, it's not just about the MHz, so should I expect the "slower" G4 chip to outperform the G3 I'm looking at? I expect to use this computer until at least spring '06, which seems like a long way off considering that the G3 chip is now technically obsolete. Also, there are obvious form factor issues; does anyone have a strong opinion about the old iBook design vs. the new? Has anyone been personally affected by the logic board problems
I've heard about for the last-gen G3 iBooks? Any warnings about Apple-refurbished machines? [slightly more inside] [more inside]

AskAppleFilter Is there any way of shutting my iBook without it going to sleep? Specifically I want to play music via iTunes with the li' puppy shut up snug.
