Is there software to automatically manage podcasts on my Rio Carbon Pearl? I'm looking for something that will function like iTunes for an iPod or Zune for a Zune -- keep only unplayed shows on my player, download new shows when I run the software, etc. Are there any iTunes alternatives which will handle this on my Rio Carbon? I'm running XP.

I'm burning a CD of a playlist in iTunes and am having trouble getting the levels to match. Even though I use the iTunes "Sound Check" setting (which supposedly evens out levels), when I play my burned CD back, the levels are all over the place.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a Mac OS X program that could help me out?
Thanks!

Any recommendations on software alternatives that are more resources friendly than their mainstream competitors? Examples: Firefox vs. IE, Winamp vs. ITunes, alternate anti-virus programs, etc.

I have about 73GB worth of music in iTunes. The "my music" folder on my HDD has about 85GB of music in it. I want to identify the music that's NOT in iTunes so I can either delete it, or organize it and import it into iTunes. Advice? I'm using WinXP.

In iTunes, why do songs I uncheck not play during shuffled playback? I just want to uncheck songs I don't want on the iPod and let 'em play normally in the library. It's easier than making a playlist for the iPod each time I add new albums. Alternatively, how do you manage your library when it exceeds the size of your iPod?

Here's what I think will be a softball question: My iTunes auto-opens several times each day. I've looked in the HELP section, scanned for some sort of OPTIONS feature, but I'm drawing blanks. Why does it auto-open, and how can I stop it? Thanks (no more inside).

I'd like to control iTunes for Windows programmatically, but I'm not sure if this is possible. More.

BEST. ASKMETAFILTER REPONSE. EVER.
On March 1st, I posted a question about how to have "recently playing in iTunes" data show up on your website if you use Windows (solutions already exist for Mac users). I got a lot of interesting answers, and I used one suggested app, Bloglines, for a few days before it inexplicably stopped working. But then MeFite krunk was so inspired by my question that he coded an entire freakin' app to mine the iTunes XML file and upload a list of the latest songs you've played to your webserver. Ladies and gentlemen, meet IndieRock, probably the first piece of software inspired by AskMetaFilter and a damn fine way to show off your listening habits to the world. Now that's an answer!
