Does anyone know how to totally clear out an iPod, essentially returning it to 'factory settings'? I have an older iPod I wanted to give to someone, but the issue is my computer won't locate the iPod (I had it synced to another computer that has since died), or tells it's not authorized. What's with Apple pulling the 160gb iPod? I am looking to get a new iPod so was searching Craigslist and see lots of 160s for sale. I look at the Apple web site and it lists a 120 as the largest. I call Apple and the clerk tells me they no longer offer the 160. I ask why. She says she doesn't know. A friend recently bought a MacBook for college and, through Apple's promotion, got a free iPod Touch with it. I have a few questions: 1) If the iPod is opened, can it still be returned? 2) What will happen if Apple does take it back, since technically the owner payed nothing for it? (Store credit, perhaps?) and 3) If the iPod should somehow malfunction through no fault of the owner, would Apple replace it as they would any other purchased iPod still under warranty?

I have an old shuffle. When I first got it, I could arrange its playlist on the iMac it syncs to without it actually being plugged in. This was fast, since it all happened on the computer. Then, I could plug in the shuffle and the actual synchronization would churn for about 30 sec (which I would not need to be present for). But in one of iTunes' famously regressive "upgrades," the ability to arrange tracks on my shuffle without it being plugged in vanished. Now, arranging tracks is a laborious process with delays between every user interaction. It sucks. No way am I buying a cute tiny colorful new one if it has the same crappy synchronization method. Does it? (I'm aware of iTunes' ability to pick random tracks from my library. No thanks!)

A fairly simple iPod/iTunes question—when I plug in the iPod, I would like the browser on iTunes to automatically be there (so I don't have to press apple + b), and I'd like it to be arranged by album, by year (so I don't have to click the "year" field every time).
