i'm about to embark on a document-imaging and archiving project. i have dozens of handwritten notebooks, a 7 megapixel camera, tripod, macbook, and large external drive. is iphoto going to be useful for this? (or sketchy i may use a separate iphoto library on an external drive?). are alternative software/strategies preferred for managing all these document images? (in case it matters, i'm
not interested in putting them online at this point).

I'm looking for some best practice advice in moving my iTunes music and my iPhoto images off my local hard drive. The 160GB drive on my Macbook is about full. I know I can use a USB/Firewire/Network-attached external hard drive, but has anyone had luck using a service such as Amazon's S3 for this. I know if works fine for storing the files, but how usable is it to actually 'get' the files?

iPhoto help: A friend is coming to use my computer when I'm not here. I have photos on the computer which another friend of ours does not want anyone to see. Is there a way to password protect existing photos or albums or easily hide them so I can get them back easily? I searched and it seems no is the answer but I'm hoping MeFites know a workaround. I'm on iPhoto 5.

I had all my wedding pictures on my ibook (4.7 GB's worth). My wife and I started to sort them by making albums in iphoto. Then, I had to transfer all the photos to my imac. On the ibook, I can still see the albums and thumbnails, but the ACTUAL pictures are no longer there. Is there a way to export the albums to the imac, a la an itunes playlist? I have ilife 05' on the ibook and ilife 06' on the imac.

I am moving almost 7 gb of Iphoto pictures to my wife's pc laptop/picasa. If I drag my photos library to my ipod (which has been formatted to work on her pc as well) will any metadata, such as the date the picture was taken, be transferred?
Or should I just rename all of my photos to the date they were taken before doing the transfer? Has anyone else done this?

I have iPhoto2 on my Mac but after 3.5 years I find it pretty lame, so I decided to buy iPhoto6: but then I found out it comes bundled with iLife 06, ie 7 Gb of other programs I don't really want or need. I have about 11 Gb of free disk space. Is there a way to find a simple copy of iPhoto6 or, say, even iPhoto4? It should be about 600-700 Mb, I suppose. thanks!

I tried out Apple's Aperture for a month to see if I liked it and if it saved any time, but now that iPhoto 6 is out, I'd like to go back to iPhoto which runs loads faster on my iMac. This means I have about a month's worth of photos in Aperture I'd like to salvage in iPhoto. What I can't figure out is how to export photos from Aperture into iPhoto, instead of vice versa. Any tips?

How can I prevent iPhoto from auto-launching when I plug in a card reader?
When I plug in a card reader, iPhoto assumes that it is being summoned and auto-magically launches itself. I don't want this to happen. I don't want iPhoto to ever launch without my permission, which I might grant once a year or so. Yet, every day I have to cope with it launching multiple times as I attempt to transfer photos to my hard drive. It is a minor annoyance, true, but it is an annoyance.
My question, then, is how can I make iPhoto stop doing this? I've searched its settings high-and-low, but to no avail. I've searched the System Preferences high-and-low, but to no avail. There must be something I'm missing.
