My dad wants to move his several-year long collection of photos from his aging/dying Macbook to his pretty new Windows 7 laptop. I haven't used Windows regularly in a long time, and the last time I did I used Picasa for my photo gallery software, but it looks like Google stopped supporting/offering it some time ago. Does anyone have any free (or very cheap) alternatives you could recommend? [more inside]
I have a slideshow of 392 photos in iPhoto version 8.1.2. I would like to show these photos tomorrow at a local event where I will have a table/booth but where I will not have electricity. So I want to put them on my iPad, which has better battery life than my ancient laptop. How do I do this? [more inside]
I have an external drive with 100GB of photos that I'd like to upload to iCloud Photos. How can I do this? [more inside]
I am mostly a Windows guy, but I have a MacBook at home that's ended up getting more use than expected. We started using GarageBand and have a ton of photos and some videos as well. Now the smallish SSD is full. I plan to buy an external HD and move some stuff but am not that familiar with Mac file structures, so I don't know what's safe to move. [more inside]
When I try to browse photos or videos from iPhoto or Aperture in iMovie I'm unable to do so. The libraries are greyed out. I've Googled and tried stuff to no avail. Help! [more inside]
I had 3000 photos on my iPhone 5C. I recently purchased a used MacBook Air from a friend and I've been letting my daughter use it to watch Netflix. The other night, I did something pretty idiotic and transferred all of the photos to iPhoto, then deleted them on my phone. Then, the battery died. Upon rejuvenation, iPhoto was empty. Its a Macbook Air 13" 2012, 500 GB HD, 8 GB Ram, 2 GHz [more inside]

On my MacBook Pro: when I double click on the computer icon and it opens (to show me Applications, Library, etc) and then I double click within that to Users (which shows me Guest, Me, and Shared), if I then click on "Me" it tries to open with iPhoto, claiming I am an iPhoto Library. I just want to be a User folder again with typical subfolders like Documents, Music, Pictures. Help. [more inside]

I use iPhoto purely to keep track of my iPhone photos and video...it's just easier. I take tons of images, and with the 6's bigger file sizes now my library has ballooned to over 1/5 of my HD. I do lots of dslr work, and I need as much HD space as possible for my actual photo work, not my phone snapshots. What are some solutions you've concocted to manage how much room this shitty app gobbles? Compression? Is there an option somewhere to archive by year? What's the best answer?
The iPhoto app on iOS had two excellent photo filters that I liked a lot in certain situations: Watercolor and Oil Painting. I've seen nothing else as good as either of them in any other app (I am aware of the Waterlogue app, which also provides some interesting effects). Unfortunately, as of iOS 8.0, Apple no longer supports iPhoto for iOS. [more inside]
i'm having trouble opening an iPhoto library without restoring my photos. i don't want to overwrite anything in my library, but want to be able to view something in a different library on my external HD. [more inside]
Our family photos are a mess. We have 4ish years of mostly unedited, unsorted photos in iPhoto. I'd like to get a handle on what's there, sort and/or edit, possibly print some books (our son was born in 2011) and create a system that helps us avoid this disaster going forward. More details inside. [more inside]
I want to improve my digital photo organization at work, and I don't care about anything in iPhoto except Events. Unfortunately, I really appreciate being able to visually browse Events as a central database of every photo upload ever. It feels like there's no easy visual browsing in the Adobe suite, is this true? Should I just get better at using keywords in Bridge, or is there something magical in Lightroom that I don't know about? [more inside]
While I have plenty of experience with PCs, I am a Mac person who is currently using a MacBook Pro (OS X, but it's more than 3 years old), an iPhone, and a Canon SLR. I upgraded to the full version of iPhoto awhile ago thinking it would make me like iPhoto better. It has not. I'm leaning towards Adobe PhotoShop Elements 12, but I am not sure if that is the best alternative or if there is another one I should be considering. Some additional info inside. [more inside]
I have an iPhone. I use iPhoto on a MacBook. What settings for iCloud, Photo Stream, iTunes, etc will stop the frustrating situation I find myself in? [more inside]
I took a bunch of photos with my iPhone held horizontally, which when imported into iPhoto are now upside down. Last time I did this, and I rotated the photos in iPhoto, the photos then appear upside down when viewing them on the iPhone. Is there any way to get the iPhone to agree with iPhoto on which way is up? Or do I have to create duplicate photos and rotate one so that at least one version is properly viewable on each device? (Also, does anyone have a good trick for remembering what the right position is for the camera eye when holding the iPhone sideways so I don't do this again?)
After years and years of agony, we're quitting iPhoto for OS X. For now, we're using Lyn plus existing cloud backup rather than paying another monthly nut for Dropbox or the like. The only problem is, I like that when iPhoto imports photos, it organized them by year, month and day. I'd like to find a way to replace this functionality -- Apple script, existing software, whatever -- without actually importing them into iPhoto.
The primary photo repository in our house is connected to my iCloud account. I'd like my wife to have dead-simple access to my Photo Stream so that she can easily check out pics on her iDevices (she has her own iCloud account) after we pull them off the camera. How can I do this?

Be easy on me I'm basically clueless about Macs, but my PC died and I'm forced to work off my wife's computer 1)Where is my wife's Mac storing our pics? When I point Adobe Bridge at our Iphoto Library folder it doesn't see any pics. Instead it opens Iphoto. (note our IPhoto Library is in a dropbox folder). If I want to open them in Photoshop I have to drag the pic from IPhoto. How do I make this not be like this? 2) Can I use Dropbox as a remote library for the pics? I.E. delete them from the drive and just point Bridge at dropbox? Or is there a better solution? Would be happy to pay but need something that requires at most the ability to fog a mirror.
I have to print very detailed photos for my job. At times, the photos taken have information near the margin of the photo. When I import photos into iphoto and print them--whether or not I use preview--the margins are cut off. Is there a setting I can change to make sure that the entire photo is printed? This is driving me crazy. Thanks.

iPhoto replacement for Windows 7...NOT PICASA! [more inside]
I have a MacBook and an iMac and would like to keep the same iPhoto library on both machines. I'm comfortable with making sure I only change the library on one machine at a time. I've done research and it seems the only way to keep the library on both machines is to use rsync, but despite following some online guides I can't get it to work. Does anyone know of a user-friendly link that will help?

iPhoto Help Filter: About six months ago I opened iPhoto to the horror of little black boxes instead of events. Photos were exhibiting the same problem. I had ample backups so I browsed back in time to find the version of my iPhoto library that wasn't corrupt. I restored it. It happened again. I restored it. You guessed it... it keeps happening.
