I can rip the audiobooks from the compact disc to itunes quite easily, but the problem is if they are just added to my phone under the music icon, it won't save my place in the book. What is the easiest and fastest way to make this happen. I am willing to download apps that cost $ if necessary.
Why does my iPhone keep dropping Instagram, and how do I fix it? [more inside]
After a complicated chain of circumstances involving a SIM migration, a grandfathered prepaid data plan that transferred from an iPhone 3G to a 4 to the current 5S, and many hours (no exaggeration) at the AT&T store while their employees talked to level 2 tech support, I was left with:
- A working iPhone 5S on AT&T, now getting LTE data but restored to factory settings.
- A recent encrypted backup from the phone, just before the wipe.
I need help with getting my iPhone videos (home videos, all 2 minutes or less) to upload to Flickr - ideally using their app, but open to other ways as well. Why can't I do it? [more inside]
My iPhone keeps buzzing with a calendar alert that does not have a reminder set. Help me turn it off! [more inside]
Hi - in a pinch, I need to use my iPhone to feed live video to a projector. I have a VGA adapter, so I can mirror my camera, but I can't feed "clean" video without all the on-screen camera controls, etc. I feel like the answer is easy, but I'm flummoxed. Is there an app or way to get just plain camera output without the controls? thanks!
How can I better organize my schedule through better use of my work and personal calendars across platforms? My primary calendar at work is through Outlook/Exchange, but for personal correspondence I use gmail/google calendar, mostly accessed through my iphone or a browser on my mac. Right now I am just inviting Work Email Address Me and Personal Email Address Me to events (like meeting invitees) but perhaps there is a better way. Suggestions of articles/resources to help me figure this out also welcome! [more inside]
I like to listen to my white noise app on my iPhone while I work, but the alerts from email, texts, etc. disrupt my zen zone. Is there a way to silence my phone, text alert, and email alerts (basically everything except this app) without having to go to Settings and set each one's ringtone to "None?" Thanks!
Trying to get my iPhone 4S to restore and sync from recent backup via iTunes and no love. [more inside]

Is there an equivalent of Instapaper or Pocket, but more or less optimized for saving and decluttering (long) email threads? (Gmail, specifically?) [more inside]
So I used WAZE for my morning commute on my iPhone. It's on my dash and out of easy reach. But sometimes I get an idea for a thing I need to do when I get to the office. Or a text I need to send. So I have to stretch and reach over for the iPhone button to hold it down and dictate it to Siri. Then I thought: What if I just had a button. On me. So that's what I'm looking for. A button I can have close to me that I can press to activate the same function on the iPhone. Not a headset. Or a speakerphone. My car's functionality there works great. Just a button to trigger the thing that's a foot out of easy reach. Now It'd be great if it was like a pin on and didn't look awful so it could be semi decorative. But frankly even if it was big and ugly and I could mount it on the wheel that would work too. So...anyone know any straight button options?
A convoluted story about failing to get an iPhone 5S to successfully do all messaging over SMS/MMS rather than iMessage. I would like a way to keep my cellular network turned off, but still be able to send and receive messages without constant errors. [more inside]
Looking for a program that will help rescue my lost notes... [more inside]
Text messaging consistently does not work on my phone (iPhone 4s, AT&T). 2 failure modes: 1) The blue "Sending" bar does not go all the way to complete in iMessage 2) I'll send a text successfully, and the other person will text me back right away, but I won't receive their reply. When I do get their reply, however, it'll say the correct timestamp (from when they sent it, which is often hours earlier.) This always happens with some people and never with others. It happens to both iMessage and regular texts. I'm wondering whether to take it to the Apple store, the AT&T store, to do a factory reset, or to fiddle with some other settings. Has anyone else encountered this and been able to fix it?
Is it possible to transfer apps between iOS devices without jailbreaking? [more inside]
I need an app for the IPhone that will allow my partner to press a single button to send me a pre-written text message or pre-determined photo. This will be a sort of personalized Bat Signal (we'll call it "The Clay Signal") and will let me know that she needs my attention. [more inside]
I’m interested in the DURR, a simple display-less “watch” that vibrates every 5 minutes to influence your perception of the passing of time. Since DURR is not currently shipping and I already own an iPhone with a clock and a vibrating buzzer, I feel like this should be doable with an app. There’s already a Pebble app so I’m sure it’s not crazy. If this doesn’t currently exist, how hard might it be to write one myself? I’ve compiled things in XCode before but not written my own from-scratch Objective-C, so I’d be approaching this as a newcomer.
How do I check that the mail account I've set up on my iPhone is fetching using IMAP and not Exchange ActiveSync? [more inside]
I want one phone number to use for talk and text, and I want to be able to send and receive texts on my iPhone or from my Mac without using a browser or a second phone number. Currently, Google Voice does this, but it looks like Google is merging Google Voice into Hangouts this spring, and 3rd party apps will no longer work. GAH! I love being able to send and receive texts for my real number on my Mac (I use GrowlVoice). I'm currently on AT&T for my iPhone, but I'm more than willing to switch to another carrier. What are my options?
I'm so overwhelmed by the information I get when I go online… can someone give me the for-dummies explanation here -- tell me what to do and exactly how? I need to be told how to use either an iPhone 5S or a 4s, in Italy and Israel, to be able to make/get local calls and texts, and access interactive maps, without incurring surprise fees. My latest annoyance is that this used iPhone 4s that I bought has the headphone jack on the top. This makes getting it in and out of my jacket pocket and holding it annoying for me. And I can't just turn the phone upside down like an iPad does. Is there such thing as a case that either replicates the headphone jack on the bottom, or has its own built-in headphones originating from the bottom? I found this one but the headphone cord still comes out of the top. Alternatively, recommendations for bluetooth headphones that have comparable good battery life and sound quality to the plugged-in kind.
My dad had his computer reformatted and now he doesn't remember his Hotmail password because it used to be saved in his browser. We tried to recover the account by going into the "Can't access your account?" section, but we were unsuccessful. He can still access his emails via the Mail app on his iPhone. [more inside]

For my job I need to make a short video that graphically illustrates an iPhone app and its functionality. Are there any tools or sites out there that can let me do this as nicely as possible? I'm thinking of something similar to App.io except I need something more automated and presentable. Something like a Powerpoint presentation except for an app with text and animations/video.
I'd really like to get some wireless speakers I could plug my ipod or iphone into in and have it play throughout the house. Money is tight at the moment, which got me thing that one way to do it would to buy speakers piecemeal. To start, get one speaker that is portable. As money comes along, add more speakers to it. But I am afraid I have no idea what to look for when looking at speakers. [more inside]
I've been thinking about building this little Altoid tin headphone amp kit for listening with my Sennheiser 555s. Granted, the point of building the kit is, well, building the kit--but given the limitations of a (cheap) kit-built design and the fact that I listen exclusively to mp3s on my iPhone or Mac, will there be a perceptible improvement in sound from the cans? Is there more to the sound of my mp3s that I might not be hearing just driving the Sennheisers with the juice from the iPhone's or Mac's headphone jack that would merit stepping up the signal with the little amp?
My iPhone deleted all of my contacts, and none of the advice I've found on the internet for getting them back has worked. [more inside]
I will be traveling to Dublin, Ireland frequently in the next 6 mos - year and I need to find an appropriate SIM vendor. I have done a ton of research but I am still hamstrung in terms of concrete advice. Here is what I know: I have unlocked my old iPhone 4 for this purpose. My husband and I have AT&T for our stateside smartphone service. My mother has Verizon (my preschooler will be with her). I will use the phone to call my husband and daughter nightly (probably two separate calls) and I will want some data coverage for navigation, texting, etc. I would prefer not to initiate any kind of contract until after the first trip. Any recommendations? TIA.
We are moving to London and we'd like to bring our American mobile phones to use with whatever British network provider we decide to sign up with. We will no longer have a contract with our US carrier once we move. What do we have to do in order to use UK (and other European) SIM cards in our phones and have them work as well as they did in the US? Complication: Verizon [more inside]
I'm finally going to ditch my trusty LG enV 3 for a smartphone, but I want one off-contract, and I don't want to spend a ton of money. [more inside]

My grandmother has macular degeneration. She is 82, fiercely independent, and sharper than most people half her age. She has enough vision to be able to work her computer, write a weekly condo association newsletter, and manage voluminous email correspondence. (Her computer settings are such that everything is greatly magnified.) And she is very, very interested in having an iPhone. [more inside]
My iPhone 4S keeps turning the volume down on itself. How can I fix this? [more inside]

Every year my boss gives me an iTunes gift card for Christmas, and I just got around to actually redeeming a few of them. Now I have $50 and need some suggestions for how to spend it. I like to play games on my phone, but definitely stick to the free almost free varieties. I figure this is a good opportunity to sample something a little more... upscale? So, give me your recommendations for games and apps costing more than, say, $3.99, that are worth spending big money on. [more inside]
Why is my iPhone choking on my mail all of a sudden? [more inside]
Absurdly, my wife can't delete the 1000 photos on her camera roll on her iphone 4. Running ios7; with ios 6 you could apparently sync to an empty folder via itunes, but that doesn't work anymore. Any ideas? Surely there must be a straightforward way of doing this routine task?
What are your favorite free iPhone/iPod apps for toddlers? [more inside]
This is simple. When my phone is in portrait modein the native music app, you get a useful player. But in landscape mode the screen turns into a collection of album covers to choose music. Which stinks. Any way to have the portrait usability in landscape mode?
I've just been told at the Apple store that it's a bad idea to keep the iPhone plugged into the power for long periods when fully charged, and that if possible I should really only charge it when it tells me to (ie. when the battery is almost dead). [more inside]
My mom and I have been playing Words With Friends lately (I have an iPhone 4S and she has a Kindle Fire). We want to find more games to play together that are turn-based, that work on both devices, and that are ideally free (or at least cheap). We like puzzles, word games and classic card/board games, and want something that won't feel too slow, as she only plays once per day. This has been much harder to Google than I expected, so I'm hoping to gather some recommendations.
I previously had an android phone and was doing the t-mobile unlimited talk/text/data for $50 a month. Now I have a used iPhone 4s. I've never used anything made by Apple before so I'm a bit confused. From some research, it appears that data network is different and doesn't support 4g the same way so the t-mobile thing I was doing may not be the best way to go? Anyway, does anyone know what is the best deal for a (preferably) prepaid talk/text/data plan for the iphone 4s? Thanks!
I have a no-contract plan at Virgin Mobile USA, which I like because it is so cheap ($35/month for unlimited data and enough calling). The downside of cheap and no-contract is expensive phones. However, I just lost my Android phone and would like to switch back to iPhone. My options at Virgin are iPhone 4, for $200, iPhone 4s, for $314, or iPhone 5, for more than I want to pay really. How to decide? [more inside]

I dropped my iPhone 4S a couple weeks ago and broke the screen. Insert humorous anecdote here. Can anyone describe their experience with 3rd-party replacement glass versus "official" replacement screen glass? Bonus points for specific locations in suburban Boston where I could get this fixed on a while-you-wait basis, since I'll be in Boston-ish over the next few days. Thanks.
My iPhone was stolen and I need to purchase a new one. I am considering saving myself the hassle of a craigslist interaction by purchasing a used one through an Amazon retailer. Has anyone done this? Would you recommend it? Anything I should look for specifically besides carrier compatibility etc.?
