I bought my iPhone last February. During what remained of that Winter, I would take it with me when cross-country skiing, walking outside, or taking the bus to work. It seemed to operate just fine, as had my prior phone which was a Samsung. This Winter, however, the cold weather seems to be seriously affecting the phone's battery life. The battery drains quickly when I'm outside and sometimes suddenly goes from 20% or more to dead. Today, I went out skiing with the phone. I was listening to a podcast and using an exercise app to track my speed and distance. When I started out the phone had 55%, but it died after only 10 minutes. The temperature was -10F/-23C. I've also had it drain quickly after waiting to catch the bus. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem and continue to use the phone in the Winter? Is this something the folks at the Genius bar can help with? Should I create some sort of insulated pouch for the phone? I realize that temperature can affect batteries, but I'm surprised because I didn't have this problem other winters. I know I've taken phones out in colder weather than today without such a sudden failure.
I have an iphone. Today I will be getting a MotoX. I don't really know a lot about smartphones in general or Android in general (or hell, even ios really) except that I assume there are going to be a few hiccups in the transition. Help me avoid those hiccups! [more inside]
I have all this music on my iPhone. But when I go to play it, it has to download it from the cloud first. Although the playlists are there, nothing is actually being stored on the phone. So it takes ages and chews through lots of data when I just want to play a song. How do I get rid of all this cloud nonsense and just store old-fashioned music files on my iPhone? (Relevant: I have iTunes Match switched *off* in Settings -> Music on my iPhone.)
I have an iPhone. I use iPhoto on a MacBook. What settings for iCloud, Photo Stream, iTunes, etc will stop the frustrating situation I find myself in? [more inside]
I'm going to be travelling to India soon and I wanted to get a prepaid cellular connection for my iPhone to avoid roaming charges and for internet access. What's the cheapest/best prepaid connection in India (going to be travelling around South India)? Is there some way I can buy it in the US so I can have cellular access from when I immediately arrive? [more inside]
Why does my iPhone 5s get too hot to touch when playing Words with Friends, and is there anything I can do to stop it? [more inside]
Just curious if I should use the iCloud? Will it make things complicated for me? Make it easier? Do I need it? Am I using it already?? [more inside]
I am looking for a 3.5mm to 3.5mm male to female audio cable extension where the male end would fit into an iPhone audio jack through a case. (So the male end should be roughly similar to the end of a pair of default iPhone headphones.) The female end would attach to, say, speakers or maybe a Square card reader. I would prefer if the male end is at a right angle to the rest of the cable. [more inside]
I'd like to meditate more. I have the Simply Be app and like it, but would like to try others. MeFites, what do you recommend?

In spring of 2014 I will be getting an iPhone 5S. I cannot figure out how to get a plan that includes tethering so I can generate wifi for my non-cellular iPad mini. What will I need to do to activate that during my order (I am switching from Verizon to AT&T) and how do I find out how much it will cost in addition to my unlimited talk/text plus XGB of data? I have already contacted customer support and they have given me the same unhelpful stuff that's on the AT&T website.
I need a mobile phone for work and am debating, help me choose please [more inside]

My young adult daughter, who suffers from depression, was advised by her therapist to track her moods, to be better able to identify what triggers them. I suggested that she use an iPhone app, since she has her phone with her at all times. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific mood tracking app? [more inside]
People I have never heard of before are calling me to ask that I stop calling them. Fine. If I had called them, that is! But I haven't. Neither has my phone, according to its log. [more inside]

Our mobile phone contract is up with Bell and we'd like to not renew with them again. Admittedly Canadians get the short end of the stick no matter what mobile provider there is, but is there at least a more decent end of the stick? [more inside]
I'm traveling to Japan for a week for InterBee - which also include two days on my own. I land at the airport...and then have to get to my hotel (different ones during the trip). My guess is that I will be doing loads of train travel. Loads of questions [more inside]
After spending several years on an ancient Android on which running much of anything was like wading through molasses and apps crashed if you breathed wrong, I got myself an iPhone 5S. It is very shiny and I am very happy. Problem: I have no idea what apps to get. Difficulty level: free-or-cheap. [more inside]
I was given a iphone 4s from a relative as a gift. I already have a nice android and thought it would be cool to just use the iphone as a ipod instead of just selling the gift and risk offending them. It came factory reset and stays on a activation screen awaiting a sim card. I can not figure out how to get past this screen and just use it as a device which is fairly easy to do with any android phone. Do I need to "unlock" or "jailbreak" the phone to bypass the sim card need or do I need to buy a sim card just to use it as a ipod with no carrier or phone functionality? Please help and recommend any useful software.
I have an iPhone 4S with IOS 7.0.3 installed and my phone only rings about half of the time. The other half of the time when someone calls, it just goes straight to my voicemail and doesn't ring at all on my end. How do I fix this? [more inside]
An office full of iPhones. As each person updates to iOS7, their Contacts show up on the other updated phones. Why? [more inside]
I have an iphone and an ipad which I use daily. Due to work policies, my data is setup via Outlook (not Exchange) and synced via iTunes to both devices. I use iCloud to maintain mirrored info for websites, pictures, etc but NOT contacts. I'm getting tired of having to plug both devices in to sync them to the same data. Is there anyway to use iTunes to sync to my phone and then use iCloud to maintain data integrity across to the ipad? Or will this end up giving me duplicates in my Outlook contacts?

I want to buy a new car stereo, but have no idea how to google for the features I'm looking for. What I really want is a double din stereo that has a usb port on the front where I can plug in my iphone 5 and play it through the stereo. Now comes the hard part, I want to control the iphone from the iphone. Not through the stereo interface. In otherwords, I want to use the USB port as an Aux out. [more inside]
Is there a way I can buy a new iPhone 5 (not 5s or 5c), white, 16GB, unlocked, unsubsidized, with support for the T-Mobile's AWS band (some early iPhone 5 models didn't have this, model A1428 added it). [more inside]
Hi, my band members have iPhones. Since last month, I am not getting group texts from the other members. They can see my texts sent to the group, but their responses never reach my phone. Texts to and from the individual members work just fine, but I never get any of their texts to the group. Any idea what causes this and what can be done to fix it? I don't know the models they are using. I'm using a Blackberry Curve. The internet is filled with questions about this problem, but not specifically related to group texts, which are the only problem for me. The other issues are apparently related to iMessage.
I want what I think should be simple: I want to buy an unlocked, no-contract iphone. I want a fast data plan with high or no limits. I don't care about voice calls or texting, since I rarely use either. What are my best options? (It would be best if I can use the verizon network, but I'll take any). Bonus points if you personally tried it and it worked.
Do you live in an area with limited cell phone providers due to all the mountains in the way? Do you use either an iPhone 4s or Galaxy S2? Can you share your knowledge with me, please? [more inside]
I have an iPhone 4 running iOs 7 and I decided to sign in to the Google Maps app to see what the benefits were. I changed my mind and signed out, but the app seems to have retained my login info (and will login without entering a password). Is there any way to remove my info completely?
I've noticed that a number of people have been upgrading their iPhones (less so with other models) every year without paying anything out of pocket. How does this work? [more inside]
I'm currently a junior level mobile developer for an air travel .com company. It's a full time job. I'm also working on developing an iPhone app which is a Foursquare client (currently free, but developing it more until paid features can be added once I reach a reasonable point of development). I have a security concern related to using app's such as Grindr that pull location data. I've had a couple people "stalk me" to my specific location in the past. I would like to meet people in my "area" on these kinds of apps - but I want to set my actual location to somewhere else in the city. I had this working on my old jailbroken 3GS. But now that I have a new phone (IOS7) it would seem I'm screwed. Any ideas?
Are there any good alternatives to the SONOS system that would let me control music across my entire house from my iPhone? [more inside]
I'm searching for a calorie counting app that doesn't require me to enter my weight to use it. This rules out myfitnesspal and lose it. I've downloaded and deleted a dozen apps because every single one won't let me bypass the "weight" screen. It seems like it really shouldn't be so hard to just track calories/nutrients/vitamins without doing it for weight loss. Can anyone suggest an app that does what I want?
Like a moron, I just accidentally deleted a bunch of texts/iMessages from my iPhone 4 (not 4S). Is there any way to get them back? I'm backed up with iCloud. I've googled and looked at old AskMes but don't understand what I found. I need simple explanations.
I'll be spending much of November in South America and would like a Spanish translation app on my iPhone. I'm overwhelmed by the choices, and would be grateful for recommendations. Free is best, but I'm willing to spend some money (up to $10 or so). I know un poco Spanish and will have a paper dictionary as well.
I just moved over to T-Mobile US from Sprint to take advantage of their $30 prepaid plan. I bought a used iPhone 5 from a reputable reseller of phones on eBay. So far, I've had incoming calls go straight to voicemail, had my data connection suddenly stop dead, accompanied by "No Service", and my signal level seems to vary wildly just while sitting at one location. Is this par for the course with T-Mobile or is this phone a dud? [more inside]
I'm planning on getting my very first smartphone pretty soon. One of the ways that people seem to use phones (a lot? sometimes?) involves syncing info between couples: schedules, grocery lists, to-do lists, tracking the other person's phone to tell that they're stuck in traffic, etc. Is this really useful? Does wanting this mean I should get an iPhone (like my husband) or can I do Android? [more inside]
This evening, suddenly and without warning, my iPhone decided it required activation. However, I can't get it to activate properly. [more inside]
I am interested in being alerted if and when jailbreaks to iOS 6.1.3/4 and iOS 7 are released, but I have no interest in the daily news about jailbreaks on the legitimate sites like iphonehacks.com or developers' twitter accounts. Is there an RSS feed or email service that will alert me if and only if a legitimate jailbreak is released? [more inside]
Is there any good way to get audio from an iPhone's lightning connector to the 1/8" audio in plug in my car, short of upgrading my audio system to add USB in? Or will the quality of bluetooth be better than I fear, and I should just get a bluetooth receiver instead? [more inside]
I know that it takes a while for many of the best iPhone apps to be adapted for Android and other platforms. Is there a site or some other list of these recent migrations that gets updated fairly frequently?
