When I'm on a call with my iPhone 5 (iOS 7), I can't use any apps anymore. The display flashes on and off, I can't use speakerphone or end a call, and the screen sometimes locks. (Restarting has done nothing.) Also, when I hold the home button and talk, Siri doesn't work anymore. It just keeps suggesting things I could ask. Google searching is suggesting a proximity sensor issue?
Me and my dad don't really like to talk on the phone much or communicate extensively via email. I'm about to give him an iPhone and I was wondering if you can suggest a way to use the phone to keep in touch in a fun and fresh way. [more inside]
iTunes WiFi Syncing seems to have worked around 3% of the time I've tried to use it. Any way to increase that percentage a bit? [more inside]
I'd like to distribute an emergency phone list with numbers that are clickable on a smartphone. [more inside]
I am looking for games for iOS that are played 2-player at the same time, with the phone flat on a table, one person on each side playing against each other. I don't know what to call this so it's hard to search for more (I think of them like 80's arcade cocktail machines). So far the only ones I've found are OLO (a hybrid of shuffleboard and air hockey), TEN (same company, it's like mega tic-tac-toe) and some checkers/chess games. Are there others? What is this style of game design called?
I currently use Runkeeper on my iPhone to log runs and races (mostly 10k’s). Next year I’m doing a half-marathon and marathon. Is it worth getting a GPS watch & heart rate monitor? (Considering the Garmin 220 or 620.) I’m thinking about the convenience/functionality of a watch versus a phone, and the training benefits of a HRM. I’d rather not get another device unless it’s a marked improvement.
While I had no issues on my iPhone 4 with iOS 7 getting my desired functionality, I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to replicate this functionality with my iPhone 5S and iOS 8. The main problem concerns the built-in Mail app. [more inside]
Well technically *I* didn't drop my iPhone 5c in the water, my 3 year old son did while playing games on the potty. It was probably in the water for 10 seconds, in an Otterbox Defender case. I took the case off, powered it off (could see water under the screen at this point), and put it in a bag of rice. No warranty, no Applecare; what can I do to maximize the chances of saving the phone?
What are the best ways to digitally record iPhone calls and Skype calls on a Mac? I do a lot of interviews and I'm always trying out new ways of recording them (legally), but I feel like the magic solution is still out there. Apps, Audacity workarounds, Google voice--what's your preferred method?
I've forgotten the PIN for my credit card. It was the same as the 'swipe to unlock' code for my iPhone 5 (running iOS 7), three codes ago (ie, I've changed it twice since then). I thought I remembered the PIN, and tried to make this my new unlock code, hoping it would say 'nope, too recent' and I'd say 'a ha, that's it', but no luck (and now I have a new number to remember). Is there a way I can view past unlock codes for my iPhone? [more inside]
I'd like to make a list of all the people I know who live close enough to make casual plans with -- like getting a coffee or having dinner or seeing a movie -- and then keep track of how long it's been since I saw each person on that list. I'll set up a spreadsheet if I have to, but is there by any chance an app that will make this simpler for me? [more inside]
Gmail does a great job of filtering spam at the site but it's all getting fetched to Mail on my iPhone & iPad. What do I do to get only "primary" mail in Mail?
Updated my iPhone software the other day (iPhone 5) and now the sideswipe gesture seems to be on a hair trigger. There's a couple frequently-used apps I have where swiping in from the right with one finger allows you to delete a line; now instead it swipes the whole screen forward (into the next day on the calender, for example). Ditto in zoom --- if I'm zoomed in on a page with small print in Safari, I can't seem to move the page over to see the right hand side without Safari taking this as a "next" gesture and loading up a whole new page. Is there anyway I can disable a particular gesture in iOS8? Or has Apple changed something so that I'm supposed to be using two fingers or double tapping or some such in order to get back my "delete a single line" functionality? [more inside]
Why won't my music sync and play properly?! I have been struggling with this since iOS 5? 6? Feels like forever - I am so beyond frustrated. So much so that I am ready to just stop using music on my iPhone and iPad completely. Which was the reason I got an iPhone in the first place. [more inside]
What is the correct way to make sure all of my photos are saved to my computer when I sync my iphone? I am on a PC, and I don't have iphoto. Are they being saved when I sync? Not sure about this. There is not nearly enough space in my icloud account for them all, so I have that turned off for photos for now. When I go to the photos tab in itunes, it allows me to sync additional photo folders on my computer but it says nothing about my iphone photos being saved to the computer with each sync. I have a whole crapload of MP3s on my work computer. I cannot access iTunes at work or download it. My company blocks it. I have no working computer at home. How do I get these files on my iPhone 4S? Thanks
As long as I've had an iPhone I've used the default email app, Mail, linked to my primary gmail address, along with my secondary gmail address that forwards to my primary mailbox. After upgrading my iPhone 5 to the 6, I've lost the ability to use an Exchange account for gmail so that new mail pushes to the Mail app. See here. [more inside]
Mefite New Yorkers, lend me your ears! And thoughts. I'm interested in getting an iPhone 6 tomorrow (AT&T) but not sure where to go to maximize my chances of getting one. Definitely going to avoid the Apple stores, so I'm thinking AT&T stores are my best shot. Thoughts on the best place to get a phone? Better to go to midtown near work? Or stay on the Upper West Side (where I live) and try one of the stores around here?

My wife has an iPhone 4 on a market rate plan. I have an iPhone 5 with both a grandfathered unlimited plan and a discount through my employer. Together, we fight crime. iPhone was working this morning without incident. This afternoon, with headphones in, my phone is randomly turning down the volume, all the way down to mute sometimes. The issue is slightly better, but not completely, when I take off my Mophie case. Neither of my volume buttons seem to be broken. [more inside]
I am an iPhone 4s user who has been holding out for the newest model. Yay, it's almost here! Now that I have a release date I'm wondering what to do with my old phone. I could sell it to Gazelle, but a more appealing option is giving it to my mom. Is this a good idea? [more inside]
I really like the experience of reading my Twitter feed on my iPhone, but when I sit down at my desk and open twitter.com in my browser, I see my feed starting from the most recent tweet. Instead, I want to be taken to the last tweet in my feed that I read on my phone and vice-versa when going from desktop to phone. How do I keep my place when switching between desktop and iPhone?
My current Android phone is dying, and I've had bad luck with other Android phones. Money is real tight right now, but I'm thinking about buying this used Apple iPhone 4 for $95. Will I regret the purchase? [more inside]
I'm expecting delivery of an iPhone 5s; my first smart phone evah. I searched various iPhone 5s users' forums, in addition to Google, but couldn't find an answer to this question. I want to dictate an email into the phone, have the words appear in the body of the email, and send it off to the recipient. Is this possible without special software?
I have a large email account and would like to sync email to my iPhone - but only the emails going back one year. IOS 7.1.2 will allow one month and then "no limit". Nothing in between. I have even tried the Outlook app on the iPhone - kind of works, but search only goes back 6 months. Any ideas anyone?

In trying to backup iPhone 4s NOTES onto iCloud I lost many of them. When I started the process my phone said I had four different NOTES accounts: "All Notes"; "From my PC"; "Gmail"; and "iCloud". It has lost the "From my PC" account and with it, many of my older notes. They are not on iCloud either. [more inside]

I'm on Verizon and have been stuck with an iPhone 4 (yes, the original 4) for what feels like the better part of 2 years. My Verizon account says I'm not eligible for an upgrade until December. What are my options to upgrade now without breaking the bank? [more inside]
I want to come home and put my phone down in a dock and not carry it around all the time. I'm trying to reduce both anxiety (from checking work email) and distracted/divided attention (from playing games while talking or watching TV). Is there a good (small/cheap/easy to use) dock or other solution for this? I don't care about playing music or anything else. I just want a ringer I can hear a room away. [more inside]

I'm looking for a counter/tallying app (akin to mdevore's Flexible Counter) which allows for realtime syncing between users. That is, I'd like to be able to increment a counter and have the new value quickly show up for another device. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]

My electric utility released an iPhone app called "DTE Insight" which (among other things) measures the amount of power flowing through an appliance's power cord by asking you to hold the cord against a specific part of the iPhone at a specific angle. I have tested it against my Kill-a-Watt and it seems remarkably accurate for what it is. It presumably uses the iPhone's magnetic field sensor to accomplish this, but how on earth does it actually work? [more inside]
Last night I sent a photo of my cat to a friend. When I sent the photo, another text, not written by me, popped up and was sent along with the photo. How did this happen? [more inside]

I run a couple of work Twitter accounts and am looking for a simple client to use on my desktop computer. I actually love the iPhone app, and don’t need or want anything much more complicated than that – but switching to check my phone regularly is a pain, so I’d like to run something very similar on my desktop. Does anyone know of an app (or apps) that block you from looking at a particular Facebook page, or a particular Instagram feed? I've heard of Break-up Apps that recently have come about where you can 'erase' someone's photos, tags, etc. from your Facebook, as if they were never there, and I also know of chrome extensions which block you from a site altogether, but I can't find a good app that blocks only a particular PAGE on the site (i.e. www.facebook.com/ex'susername). I would like to be able to continue being 'Facebook Friends' with an ex, as not doing so will be disruptive. I also need to use Facebook for my job. I've already blocked them from appearing on my newsfeed and in chat, but I can't seem to stop myself from, fairly regularly, checking their Facebook page, or their Instagram feed. Any good solutions you've seen online? If not, I may have to team up with a programmer to create one because I think it'd be a very useful service! I sure could use it ASAP.
I am doing a class project for which I need to create a high-fidelity prototype of a mobile app idea. The final assignment in the class is going to be user testing of the prototype. What I'm looking for is a prototyping tool which will allow me to easily create screens with native iPhone widgets. It needs to be high-fidelity and as interactive as possible. And it needs to be accessible on the web. What are the tools that you use? My full requirements are within. [more inside]
I am a very frequent traveler and am often in different time zones. I have an iPhone and have been using the native calendar app. Unfortunately, whenever I move between time zones my calendar "helpfully" changes the times of my flights and appointments. Using time zone support does not fix the problem, but makes it "help" in slightly different and still wrong ways. I need a calendar app that does not do this and assumes I entered the information right the first time. Does anything like this exist?
How do I get my photos on my iPhone 5 to be automatically made available online permanently, wirelessly, and SUPER-easy to access? iCloud? Do i need a third party service? I just want every photo I take on my iPhone to be continuously backed up online somewhere, so that even if I delete it on the iPhone, it's still preserved, and I can grab it on a computer without having to sync the phone. Thanks.
Is there hope in restoring photos that have not been backed up or synced onto iCloud? [more inside]
I've been working on this little project called CheckIn, which is supposed to be a quick and easy to use Foursquare app that let's you check in quickly and adds interesting features like check in reminders (and instant checkins in iOS 8 - currently working on notification actions in my working build). I hate my awful, auto-dialing, MotoX android with a passion and am counting the days until the introduction and release of iPhone6 in September. Help me come up with a strategy to get one of the early models and not have to wait months until there is a significant amount of product for general distribution. In other words I want to actually have an iPhone 6 in my hands in September. How do I do it?
