My ideal situation would be basically an iPod Touch with unlimited 4G connectivity for $50-60/month. I'd love to figure out a way to still have all of the features I love with my iPhone, while simultaneously ditching the cost of making calls. Seriously. I have so many anytime minutes banked it's nuts. I'm grandfathered on unlimited data with AT&T (which means nothing really), except that I have a AT&T iPhone 4S to use once my contract is up next year. (Thought it might be pertinent for scenarios.) Not interested in carrying around a second device (e.g. mobile wifi). Thoughts?

I'd like an explanation for how to turn off all data while roaming, except for push email. This includes anything that the GPS might use as well. As for emails, I only want to receive the body of the email and not have the phone download any attachments without my permission. I'd either like a good link or instructions for both an iPhone 4S and a Samsung Galaxy SII (Android). Thanks very much.

I want to get an iPhone primarily as a portable computer/GPS/camera, and sometimes if someone wants to Skype me, that would be okay too. I am uninterested in getting tied down to a voice plan for what sounds like an eternity. Thus, with the option to get an unlocked phone from the Apple Store, what are my options for data-only plans? AT&T seems to be the best data provider where I live (in the Upper CT River Valley of NH), so I found their list of plans at http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/services/services-list.jsp?wtSlotClick=1-0060AL-0-2&catId=cat2510038&catName=Data+%26+Internet&_requestid=237492 . Most of these are GSM plans but as a newb I'm concerned about the list of acceptible phones for each plan. Is there any reason these won't work with an unlocked GSM iPhone?

My best friend got the new iPhone 4 in early August, but never synced it. When she finally synced her phone last week, she mistakenly told iTunes to Restore from back-up (the July back-up). Is there anyway to get her data back?

I currently have the iPhone 4 with the $20/month unlimited texting and the old-school "unlimited" data plan. I no longer want the unlimited texting, yet I don't want to lose the old "grandfathered" data plan? Can this be done?

I'm going to Spain for a bit and want, if possible, to get a pay-as-you-go Spainish sim card for my (unlocked) iPhone that will allow me to use data at a reasonable price. Does anyone know if such a product exists in Spain? I don't speak Spanish so bonus points if it's possible to buy one over the internet and have it shipped to me in the UK (though I know that's unlikely)...

Ill be visiting Canada (Vancouver, BC) for the month of February for the Olympics. I have a US based iPhone with service with AT&T on a Family plan with one other iPhone. AT&Ts web site is pretty opaque on the subject of roaming in Canada, but it appears that I can switch to a nationwide family talk plan that includes Canada for the month. Ive been able to find no information on what making that switch will mean for data usage for my iPhone. AT&Ts "customer service web-surfing monkey (tm)" on the phone was no help at all, seemingly having trouble understanding the difference between Mexico and Canada. So whats the deal? Can I get data for a reasonable price with my iPhone in Canada, or should I just go cold turkey and shut my iPhone off for the month (shudder)?

I live in the UK and have an unlocked iphone on the O2 network. I'm heading to California for 6 weeks to visit my family. Is there a reasonably simple way I can use my iphone and UK number in the US without paying ridiculous roaming and data charges? I'm much more of a text/data person than voice.
I'm open to Google Voice hacks, pay-as-you SIMs, etc. Anything really to ensure I don't get a monster phone bill when I get back.

iPhone...first generation used or 3G new, or wait for a while?
A friend might sell me an iPhone 1G for $50. Should I buy that or upgrade? I am eligible to renew my AT&T contract. It doesn't give me the iPhone option, so I would have to go to a store, but that is not an issue here. As I understand, the 1G iPhone's data plan is ten dollars cheaper than the 3G data plan. Over a year that would be $120 in savings, plus the phone being $50 cheaper than the cheapest 3G, adds up to $170 savings over a year. I am a bit cash strapped, but is it worth buying an older used phone for saving that much?

Hi,
I will be living in Mumbai for 11 weeks next summer. I have an unlocked iPhone 3G. What is my best bet in terms of carrier and plan for the cheapest and most reliable data access? I plan to do local calls over the cell phone voice network and international calls via Skype on the iPhone.
Thanks in advance!
