Tomorrow is my last day at a job I’ve been at for years. For all that time, the company has owned my only computer and my only phone. Much of what’s on both is the company’s, and of course I’ll leave that behind. There are some personal documents that I know are mine, and I know how to keep them. Is there other stuff tucked away on the Mac or the iPhone that I may want to keep? What, and how? [more inside]
Mr. BlahLaLa and I each have an iPhone 4s -- same phones we've had for years. Just in the last few days we're experiencing a weird phenomenon when both phones ring at once. [more inside]
Looking for iPad apps and learning games for a four-year-old. [more inside]
I was noting to a friend the other day that iTunes sucked. Something must have heard me and decided to take revenge, because my entire music library just disappeared in a puff of smoke (not literally, but damn near). Halp! [more inside]
Is there an iPhone app that can record sound, date and time, and indicate how many decibels the sound being recorded is at? I have an iPhone 6S.
I would like to get only events with certain key words in the description to sync with another calendar-- the calendar on my iPhone would be ideal, but another google calendar is fine. [more inside]
[iPhone filter] I have designated a few contacts in my iPhone as ICE. The problem is, any text message or phone call from any of these numbers shows up as "ICE," not their primary name. [more inside]
I have a LOT of photos of travels, adventures, loved ones and my 14-year-old Boston terrier. I am trying to figure out the best way to organize and store those photos. [more inside]
A bluetooth dead zone has mysterious appeared in my basement, which happens to be exactly where I have my bike trainer set up to use Zwift, which requires the use of bluetooth sensors. Everything worked perfectly fine 10 days ago, when I last used it, and I have not changed a single thing about my setup. I'm not sure how to find out what is the source of this new interference, or what to do about it if I find it. [more inside]
Is there any way for me to trigger or open a specific app when I get to a particular location and then shut it down when I leave? I've got IFTTT but the app in question isn't part of their channels, so all I can do at the moment is trigger a reminder when I enter or leave the location in question. Is there another way to get this done? Am I missing something obvious?? Google has not been helpful so far. [more inside]
About four days ago, my iPad stopped showing images in web pages--there's either a grayed out box where they should be or they're just missing. All the text loads fine, it really just looks like image resources are deciding not to load. This happens in Safari, and in Safari view controller views like Tweetbot (so it's Webkit-wide?) Force quit Safari, restarted, still broken. Upgraded it from 9.2 to 9.3.1 this morning, and same thing. Did I toggle some setting inadvertently? Or is this a bug, and if so, how do I fix it?
Vacationing in Mexico. Kid BlahLaLa has misplaced his phone. When I go to Apple's "Find My Phone" I'm not even seeing his phone on the list of our devices. Halp? [more inside]
This seems like an obvious question but the internet is being surprisingly non-informative and what information I can find seems to be several years old. I will be travelling for about 1 month. I have a totally unlocked iPhone 6s purchased in the UK. Can I walk into a store in the US when I arrive, buy a pre-paid nano sim with a data allowance, and stick it in my phone and use it? [more inside]
I'd like to see the address of each location I added to My Maps, when I view the map on my iPhone. [more inside]
I have years and years of iPhone voice memos of my kids telling stories and singing songs, since they were toddlers. Or, should I say, I had them. Somehow, when I checked today, I had THREE. THREE! Where are the rest of my voice files with my then-two-year-old telling me ghost stories? My then-six-year-old singing original compositions? These files! They are irreplaceable! They are also, in theory, religiously backed up. [more inside]

My husband saw a toddler-proof iPhone case online and now we can't find it again. Hope me. [more inside]
I'm finally caving and buying a smartphone. Size is a major factor, but I'm also not sure how concerned I should be about the security of phones that are stuck with older versions of their OS. [more inside]
I updated my iPhone 4S to the newest version of the music player. Now it's displaying all the music I've ever bought on iTunes, even stuff I unchecked and deleted from the computer years ago. I've told it to stop, but it doesn't acknowledge my selection. How do I make it stop? [more inside]
The bar I work at has a daily daiquiri, throwback Thursday dinks, and stuff I would like to queue up and set on a timer to be later posted to Instagram on the appropriate date/time, and tweet the insta link. Am not on Facebook. Is there an iOS app that can do that? My dream is to spend 45 minutes once a week or so, queue up all my daily specials I have on the paperwork, and not be fucking around typing on my iPhone while looking at today's sceule while I'm setting up my station. TIA.
Snowmageddon has started, and now my iPhone 6 won't hold a battery charge. What's going on and how can I remedy this? [more inside]
For years I've been wanting an app that will do these things: 1. Allow me to plan a shortest route between errands, and 2. not require me to tell it exactly where I want to do the errand, but be able to use categories as well as specifics. 3. be very easy to use on a iPhone 5s. 4. also estimate travel time between spots. Does my thing exist? Examples inside - thanks! [more inside]
Is there a better "lots of niche topics" trivia app than QuizUp available for iPhone? I'm getting frustrated with how shallow the question pool is on some topics on QuizUp but love the gameplay and a lot of the ranking and social aspects to it. Is there any better app for this?
Looking for the most reliable and easy to use automatic photo/video backup solution for iPhone. Contenders include Dropbox, Amazon, Flickr, icloud, Google, and probably others. We take tons of photos of the kidlet, and want to ensure they're backed up somewhere between syncing to the computer. Bonus points for a solution that can easily be imported to iPhoto for wife and Lightroom for me. [more inside]
I just remembered an iPhone app I had that had different audio 'games' that could be downloaded. Very cartoony with weird characters. Often times involving live audio processing via a microphone (At the time I bought a chord that enabled me to input any other instruments/sound devices into 1/8" jack). [more inside]
Hope someone can help - I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I have my music library shared with my wife's mac. I would like to put some of these albums on her iPhone, but iTunes/Family Sharing won't let me- it only works with iTunes-store-purchased music. Is there any way to share my own CD collection that I have in my iTunes with my wife's iPhone, without deleting what she already has on hers? Thanks!
I'm looking for an app, or some other method, to take a daily picture of the same area of our yard on my iPhone to eventually turn into a video. The goal is to look at a video of how the yard changes on a daily basis over an extended period of time. [more inside]
I love my new iPhone 6S, but I have been experiencing an annoying issue in voice calls. The call randomly cuts out - it's as if my face is coming in contact with the red "end call" icon. I understand that all iPhones from the start have had a "proximity sensor" to prevent this issue, but it seems as if this sensor isn't doing its job. I never had this issue with my previous two iPhones. The software (iOS 9.2) is up to date as of today. Is there a setting I forgot about, or should I take it back to Apple? [more inside]
I'm looking for an app to log my weightlifting workouts. Think Starting Strength or Bill Starr's 5x5 but with variations. I've tried Strong for iOS and FitNotes for Android. FitNotes is close to my ideal, but I'm not on Android anymore. [more inside]
What can I do to make my iPhone more secure? Difficulty level: 1984. [more inside]
My phone has had a series of mishaps over the last few weeks, and now I must get a new (to me) one. I have Sprint. If I were to get a used/refurbished Sprint iPhone from Gazelle or similar, how would I set it up to work with my Sprint number? Is this even possible? I do not want to have to go to a Sprint store, and I would prefer doing everything online. I need very basic step-by-step instructions. [more inside]
I have about 25 clips recorded with my iPhone that are about 20 seconds each and I want to edit them into one long video, what (free) app can I use to do that?
I've recently bought a new iphone 6S. I'm currently using my very old sim which has all of my contacts stored on it in a Samsung smart phone. What is the easiest way to transfer all of my contacts to the new iphone, taking into account the fact that the old sim card doesn't fit?
Question for a German foreign exchange student with an iPhone 5s and an O2 Sim card. Would like to use this phone in the USA but only need it for one semester. Is it possible to buy a sim card / then prepaid plan from Straight Talk (or any other bring your own phone no contract service)?
My wife's iphone is slow on our home wifi network but fine everywhere else. Our other 3 ios devices also have no issues. I've run out of ideas. Does anyone else know how I can fix this? [more inside]
My wife has an iPhone 6 running 8.1.1 When she receives a hangout request, her phone will do one small vibrate and show a banner, but it will not ring. If she's not paying attention, she doesn't realize she's being called. [more inside]
Since late October/early November, my iPhone 6s (128 GB Verizon, not jailbroken) has been ruthlessly leaking cellular data for no obvious reason. After many days of troubleshooting, I narrowed the culprit down to the infuriatingly unspecific "Documents & Data" category in the iOS 9 “Settings/Cellular/System Services” settings. How can I determine specifically what “documents” and/or “data” is causing the data leak? [more inside]
In the past when I've had big long-term goals (study a language for 300 hours, bike 2,000 miles this summer, etc.) it's been motivating for me to make a big grid on a wall to represent the goal. The grid is divided into however many units of goal I want to accomplish and I color in each unit as I put in the work. It's similar to the fundraising thermometer way to visually represent progress. Is there an iphone app (preferably something attractive with minimal text) that is good for this kind of goal tracking? Most goal tracking apps I've found so far are way too complicated and not what I'm looking for.
I was given an iPhone for Christmas this year. Until now, my entire smartphone experience has been with Android phones that work seamlessly with google voice. Using the gv number on my new phone feels pretty clunky. Should I just port my number to my carrier? [more inside]
How can I stop my iPhone from saving .aae files along with .jpg photos? [more inside]
Why does my iPhone require carrier-based voicemail service? Why can't it handle voicemail entirely on the phone itself? [more inside]
I have an old, old iPhone 4s (bought used about 2 years ago, it was probably one of the first 4s's manufactured!) which has been great and very reliable. It's doing some things that worry me, though, and I was wondering if I really must get a new phone soon or can I put it off longer. [more inside]
I want to store my 200GB of photos in the cloud. Only in the cloud. Can you please walk me through this like I'm 5? I want to STORE all my photos somewhere in the cloud - not just a backup of pix on my hard drive, but actually have them live there and only there. I'm having trouble working through the various options I might have because I have specific (maybe impossible?) things I do and do not want to do in the process. [more inside]
I'm trying to stay off contract in order to keep my unlimited data plan, but I also want to get a new phone. I've never purchased a phone off-contract so this is kind of uncharted territory. [more inside]
My iPhone makes very quiet outgoing calls, but only on phone calls, not FaceTime Audio, for example. Anything I can do? [more inside]
Are there any reputable sources from whom I can purchase a Mexico City SIM card while I am still in the USA? [more inside]
My daughter will be traveling to Nepal and southeast Asia after Christmas. I asked her if she has found out how to deal with her phone, and she said no, so I'm here (don't tell her). She's using a paid-for iphone with Koodo (in Canada). What's a good strategy for making calls, sending messages, and using data when going from country to country? Also, is it overkill to bring both an iphone and an ipad when traveling out of a backpack?
I am designing a project for about 10-20 undergraduate students (mostly traditional students but some non-traditional) where each will be asked to track their movements for a couple of weeks. Is there an easy, secure, mobile app for both Android and iPhone that will provide consistent location data in a reasonable format? Preferences would be for an app that doesn't drain the battery and one that allows you to set the interval for recording points. Nice but not critical would be some kind of reminder to record what they were doing at that time. [more inside]
