A friend's child passed away this week. They left behind an iPhone, iPad and MacBook, but no passwords. Looking for recommendations on best course of action to access the devices. [more inside]
I'm looking for ALL the iPad games that are simple enough for a 5-year old. Easy, addictive, repetitive - this is what I'm looking for. [more inside]
Is a hard-shelled case for a glass-fronted tablet such as an iPad more likely to lead to shattering, when the thing is dropped at its corner, than a thick padded fabric case? Asking because of bad recent experiences.
Can someone recommend a good dock for an iPad that has quite good quality speakers and preferably the ability to use it as an alarm clock? [more inside]
I've really enjoyed owning a Nexus 7 for the past couple of years and my 2013 version is still going strong. However, my husband's offered to buy me an iPad Air 2 for my birthday in a couple of weeks. I hear the iPad is lovely, but I'm wondering if it'll let me do all the things I enjoy doing on the Nexus 7. [more inside]
I need a dead simple (and not too expensive) setup for an imaginative 7 year old and a technically intuitive 6 year old to shoot and edit short films. [more inside]
I have 2 problems with my apple devices. Can you help? I am not tech savvy and its not a good time for me to replace devices. 1) I just upgraded my software on my Ipad 2 and now the safari is so slow its unusable- is there anything I can do? I have done all the standard things like delete apps and stop excess things running and done a hard reset. Can I downgrade back to IOs 7? That's the last time it ran well. 2) My safari on my Iphone 5 has started getting pop up ads that force open my app store right when I am in the middle of reading. Again, I feel like I have tried everything, I even reset all my settings. Tried to block the websites. What can I do? [more inside]
So, I have a standard Notes app on my iPhone and iPad. Lots of problems lately with reading/deleting mail on both, particularly with Yahoo!, so I deleted my Yahoo! and Gmail accounts and downloaded the particular apps for each instead. Then I made a note in the Notes app and to my dismay saw that most of my notes had disappeared. I googled this and learned that the Notes app may have assigned my notes to the email accounts I deleted (why?) but searching those online email accounts has only uncovered some, not all, my missing notes. iCloud doesn't have them either. Are they gone forever, hive mind? Can you think of something I've missed?
I'm helping a friend with an art installation that calls for 4-6 channels of spoken word audio, with speakers spread throughout the room. I could certainly drive this from a computer with an appropriate audio interface, but it would be nice to have a portable setup for the artist so I don't have to be there with a computer running a DAW to drive it. Is there such a thing as a 4-6 channel (output) interface for the iPad? I've seen plenty of 4-in/2-out options, but nothing with more than stereo output.
I've been fooling around with Procreate a little bit recently, and it's great! But I find "blending" between two colors with the HSL-space color picker pretty difficult. Is there a smarter way of doing this that I'm missing? [more inside]
I want to send and iPad to my grandparents for FaceTime and email. They are not tech savvy, and I want to make this as easy for them to use as possible. They don't have internet access, so I will be adding them to my family AT&T plan. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
Help me (in the US) figure out how best to set up an iPad for my mother (in India.) Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I just knocked my iPad off the counter where it hit something on the floor that cracked the glass. What's the best way to keep the cracking from getting worse? Besides, of course, not dropping it again. [more inside]
My sister and I are planning on giving our parents a combined Mother's and Father's Day gift of an iPad. What can I/we do to help ease their transition from Luddites into users of tablet computers and the Internet? [more inside]
Just bought an iPad mini, but finding the right case is proving to be a challenge. [more inside]
My vintage 2008 Macbook is eagerly gazing at the pasture that has been beckoning it for a few years now. I have replaced the hard-drive and maxed out the RAM, but the poor little guy is simply ready for a well-deserved rest. So - what's next for me and when? Macbook Pro? Air? iMac? iPad? Difficulty level: incorporating moderate music production, Netflix, general web use, somewhat limited funds, and massive over-thinking. [more inside]
I have a Tumblr with two static pages. It runs well everywhere I have tried it except Chrome browser for the iPad. Could someone help me debug this? Totally stuck [more inside]
I want an iPad app that will let me easily make a scale drawing of my back yard, and then export it in a useful standard format (e.g. PDF, EPS, etc.). I'm having a hard time telling of the "room design" and "floorplan" apps will do what I want. [more inside]
Daughter's iPad 3 Mini tells me it's got 6.9 gigs of photos on it. I've removed all of them, yet this figure is unchanged. The computer it's backed up to has only 1.7 gigs of photos on it. What gives, and how do I zap this?
I'm desperately in need of a new iPad case! My current case is from Fossil and while it's cute, it's started to fall apart and I've had it for a little less than a year. The only requirements I really have are 1) for the case to be well made (so it won't fall apart like my current one) and 2) It has to be bright/have some sort of pattern (nothing boring like brown leather). That's it. And it's an iPad 4. Where should I start looking for a cute case?
I'm thinking of splurging on a new iPad...Which one? [more inside]
I'm finally making the switch from PC to Mac, and I have some questions to make sure it all goes smoothly with my peripherals, which are currently synced to my PC. The kids are getting too much screen time, and I am tired of chasing them down to surrender the iPad, setting passcodes, etc. Is there an app or setting that will permit iPad use *only* during specific recurring periods? Or is there an app that will let me specify which apps can be used during specific recurring periods? [more inside]

I'd like to ship a new iPad from the US to France as a gift (I haven't bought it yet). It needs to arrive there in about a week and a half. A few quick online searches reveal this may be more complex and costly than I thought - USPS apparently won't deal with anything containing lithium batteries, and FedEx seems to have special requirements and rates for this kind of shipping as well. Anyone know the best way to go about this? And is it likely to be cheaper just to order directly from the Apple store in France, with all the extra shipping and customs fees I might have to pay?
Help me get organized in 2015. I’d like to mount an iPad 2 tablet on a kitchen cabinet, just above the main counter that I use for cooking. The tablet will be used to access recipes and to stream music into the kitchen. [more inside]
This question - how to set up an iPad for an elderly relative - has been asked frequently before. I'll summarize what I learned from those threads and ask a few new questions related to new iOS 8 features and cases, keyboards, and styluses. [more inside]
I want to record vocals in GarageBand for iPad. Please recommend a microphone and any other necessary gear I might need. [more inside]
First up, let's ignore the obvious solution of getting a newer iPad. Want to explore other option first! The wife is using the iPad as her main computer. Which is usually fine, she doesn't need to do much. But it gets a bit hard to a times, especially with photos. She takes a lot and would like to to have access to them all, among other things. Is there an App or technique where one can set aside say 2 gigs of space on an iPad that is only a subset of larger cloud space, without deleting anything? We have a terabyte on Dropbox. Are iCloud or iCloud Drive an option? Ideally she would be able to see lists of all the files and then open whatever, which downloads the file to the 2 gig space, which makes room by removing files which haven't used in awhile from the iPad only. They're still in the cloud and can be opened/downloaded again. Does this exist or it simply to elegant and useful to be implement by companies wanting us to spend more money?

My iPad insists that I'm using almost all of my available hard drive space. But I have no idea how, and the app-by-app breakdown purporting to show what's eating the storage doesn't add up to anything close to the 22+ GB it claims I'm using. Here's a screenshot. (Scrolling down shows only a couple more apps using very small amounts of storage.) What could be going on here? How can I figure out what's eating my hard drive space? I have no music or video on the device as far as I can tell.
My iPad 3 (the first retina) running iOS 8.1 will drop the wi-fi connection fairly regularly. This often happens when streaming video via BBC iPlayer or YouTube apps. Any suggestions on how to fix it? [more inside]
My iPad 2 recently bit the dust. Before then, I had been using the iPad for entertainment + school, as well as a droid smartphone for typical smartphone things. My droid is also on its last legs, and I'm considering changing my technology situation to an iPad Mini with mobile data + a dumb phone (just talk and text). Questions ensue. [more inside]

I teach 5th grade and have a few student who struggle mightly with reading and writing. In order to help them with the writing process we are exploring using the ability of the ipad to take dictation and create a document. I would probably use the Pages app, but wondered if there were other apps out there other teachers have found to be useful. Caveat, we need to be able to convert the document to MS Word (which is easy to do in Pages). Suggestions? Experiences?
I have an iPad mini (16GB, wi-fi only, running iOS 8.x) that I use mostly for reading the web--never for listening to podcasts--and want to get rid of the podcast files that are unwanted on the device and just taking up valuable space. [more inside]
After my water bottle spilled in my bag two days ago, my iPad was functioning normally, but had water spots on the screen. So I spared you folks and asked Google what to do. It's been sitting in a bag of rice for almost 24 hours. Now, the screen turns on (via both the power and home buttons) but doesn't respond to touch. And there's rice lodged in the headphone jack. I don't have any warranty or insurance on it. What do I do now?!
I use GoodReader for reading sheet music on an iPad (3). What wireless page turners work well with iOS (particularly with GoodReader)? I am not so much looking for Google search results that I can find on my own — but if you have experience with a page turner device and how well it works with "standard" or "common" reader apps, I'd like to hear about your positive or negative experiences!
I work with high school students who all have iPads. Because the ipad is so handy, and because iMovie is so easy to use, I want the students to edit their video projects on the ipad. Currently they use adobe premiere on desktop computers. I am not having any success finding simple solutions to this. [more inside]
I'd like to get my iPad engraved with: When this baby hits 88 mph / You're gonna see some serious shit. Apple rejected shit and sh*t, but accepts sh.t sh;t and sht. In your opinion, do any of those read as intentional substitutes rather than typos?
MobilePrintingFilter - I needed a diminutive printer, and only the HP Officejet 100 fit the bill. I've got it working fine from my Macbook via direct USB, via Bluetooth, and, having USB-connected it to the same Airport Extreme base station that delivers my internet connection, via Bonjour. Now all I'm missing is... printig to it from my iPad. [more inside]

The NYTimes for iPad app was recently upgraded to v3.5 to match the style of iOS 8. When iOS 7 was released, the New York Times released v3.0 which "broke" several features for me, forcing me to downgrade to v2.x. Can anyone tell me how v3.5 handles "Saved Items?" [more inside]
