As a followup to my previous question, I'm wondering about toddler-appropriate "slow" iPad apps that encourage a long attention span. I'm explicitly looking for things that do not have stupid music, falsetto voices, branding, IAPs, or really anything saccharine. The more abstract, the better.
Google insists on gobbling screen space by displaying a stack of "Related searches" at the bottom of every search results page (Safari, iPad Pro). How do I disable this? All "Suggestions" entries in Settings->Safari are turned off. I don't see anything useful in Google's search settings.
Is it possible to use iPads for grading? We want our TAs to download the assignments from Blackboard, mark them up using a pdf annotation app and a stylus, and then upload the corrected assignments back to BB. (I think the main issue is getting the assignment files into the iPads where they can be accessed by an annotation app.) [more inside]
As a stopgap to a full fledget RFID/NFC time reporting system, I'm probably setting up a couple of touch-screens to allow our members to enter their time in the shop. What's the simplest way for me to accomplish this? (Slideshow inside!) [more inside]
It's coming up to my daughter's 5th birthday and I'd like to get her some kind of musical instrument (probably a keyboard) that will connect to her iPad and allow her to play some fun games, learn some simple tunes, develop her ear and generally have a good time. [more inside]
So tired of doing workarounds -- need a small footprint, B&W Brother printer which will play nicely with my Dell All in One until I can pull it together and purchase a whole new system. Currently Windows 7. [more inside]
I sometimes end up in areas without Wi-Fi, for days at a time, and I do not want to be bored. It's there a good way to preemptively save reading to an iPad or iPhone for this scenario? What strategies work for you? What is the best approach for news feeds? How about magazines or ebooks?. Any other tips?
I'm looking for best practices for using our iPhones and iPads on public Wi-Fi networks. That is, what can we do to best protect/secure/encrypt the data that is transmitted over such networks to/from the devices (aside from not using the public networks in the first place)? Would using a VPN accomplish this? Any recommendations for one? Something else? These are iPhone 7's and iPad Pro's, all running the latest version of iOS 10. Thank you!
I use the Tumblr app on my iPhone and my iPad. Starting a few days ago, my dashboard wouldn't refresh on the iPad. It works fine on the iPhone, and tumblr.com works fine in browsers on iPad, iPhone, and my MacBook Pro. [more inside]
I want a tablet for reading comics, occasional word processing, and faffing around on the internet. I prioritise screen quality, good input, longevity and low cost. I am not hugely fond of the Apple ecosystem. What do you recommend? [more inside]
Starting grad school in a few weeks and need some suggestions for note taking "apps" or software. I'm more of a pen and paper kind of girl but I know that, realistically, it might be best if I learned to take lecture notes on my laptop or iPad. What do you use for notes? [more inside]
Whenever I want to open MeFi, access my bank accounts, open my mail, etc, I have to reenter my password. How do I fix this please?
Looking for fun building/construction puzzle games for iPad, for kids age 8 & 5. [more inside]
I have the best weather app, Dark Skies. I am looking for an app that will show me historical weather data by day, or something close to it. My ideal app would show me today, the record temps, and then just historical data for the date. E.g., the temp last year, the year before, in 1964, etc. I'm most interested in temperature data, but other stuff like precipitation would be great too. I feel like some enterprising soul must have made an app like this.
I just bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Looking for suggestions for the best apps for (1) lecturing in the classroom and (2) serving as a research notebook. [more inside]
I have a slideshow of 392 photos in iPhoto version 8.1.2. I would like to show these photos tomorrow at a local event where I will have a table/booth but where I will not have electricity. So I want to put them on my iPad, which has better battery life than my ancient laptop. How do I do this? [more inside]
Over the last few months I've noticed an annoying quirk with my iPad's autocorrect suggestions in iMessages/FB Messenger. It has started suggesting truly off the wall "corrections" for correctly spelled words, to the point where I started keeping a list. Some examples: I wrote "Anytime" and it suggested "Vanities." It has suggested "Vapour" instead of "Happy," and "Ochoa" for "Oh." I didn't even know what that last word was, so it's not like I somehow added it to my autocorrect dictionary. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix it? [more inside]
I have an older relative who has just gotten an iPad, but they live far away. Is there an app I can use to remote view their iPad desktop to help them navigate the internet?
Since I got my (wifi only) iPad three years ago, all texts to my phone number would show up in iMessage on both my iPhone and iPad, and same with text messages to my email address -- until yesterday. [more inside]
Is there an iPad app that will allow me to transcribe specific people in real time? [more inside]
We just got a 12-inch iPad pro. I want a case that will be compatible with the Apple smart keyboard -- but I'm not crazy about spending $80 for the Apple-branded silicone case on top of the cost of the keyboard and the iPad. Can anybody recommend a third-party case that will protect my iPad, work with the smart keyboard, and not bankrupt me?
My 2nd gen iPad has finally given up the ghost after half a decade. With tax rebate in hand, I am considering a purchase of a new one. But which? [more inside]

I have been doing most of my research digitally for a number of years, with varying degrees of success. As I finish up my phd (!) I want to refresh my research habits and streamline for efficiency. For pdfs, epubs, and online articles I currently use several services and software platforms, only some of which are compatible. Help me best this [more inside]
Is there yet a way to edit a PPT deck on iPad and then get it quickly onto a standard flash drive? [more inside]
I need to record an upcoming training classroom session from start to finish. All the videocameras I see, as well as iDevice apps that I can find, record in high def and can't store nearly enough footage. Low quality video, akin to a 1990s camcorder, is a tradeoff I'm willing to accept. I need the 8 hours to run continuously - no pauses to change storage cards or upload content in order to create space for more filming. Is there an app that will do this? If not, what's the least expensive solution?
I administer the email for a community group and will need to send email to the group while I'm on vacation. I will only have an iPad. [more inside]
...and then fold back close when I'm done. My 1st gen tablet had a more stiff cover so the bottom half would support the kindle. I could watch movies at a higher eye level while on a treadmill or elliptical. [more inside]
I'm looking for the best app to help a middle-school age kid learn the very basics of music theory. Assuming virtual lessons + practice mode and a virtual keyboard of some kind?
My mom had a stroke, she's doing ok but is having a lot of trouble talking clearly and has some fine motor control issues. Any suggestions for apps or resources for Android or Ipad apps or resources that could make it easier for her to use them? [more inside]
About four days ago, my iPad stopped showing images in web pages--there's either a grayed out box where they should be or they're just missing. All the text loads fine, it really just looks like image resources are deciding not to load. This happens in Safari, and in Safari view controller views like Tweetbot (so it's Webkit-wide?) Force quit Safari, restarted, still broken. Upgraded it from 9.2 to 9.3.1 this morning, and same thing. Did I toggle some setting inadvertently? Or is this a bug, and if so, how do I fix it?
I'm upgrading from an older 64 GB iPad to a new 32 GB one, so I need to shrink my data; especially stop storing large, seldom-used apps on the device (I can re-download from App Store when needed). What's the best way to keep a handy list of certain specified off-device apps, each linked to its App Store page for convenient re-downloading? [more inside]
I'm loving creating art with my iPad Pro, but I need better lighting. Do you know your way around the light-o-sphere? What floor lamp should I purchase? [more inside]
My son is playing Exploration on the iPad (a sandbox game, like a basic minecraft clone where you just build things) and while he really enjoys it, it doesn't seem capable of saving his creations. Is there another recommended game that allows saving? [more inside]
I'm leaving a job that provided me with a new-ish MacBook Air, and I need to replace it. I'm torn: Macbook, Air, Pro, retina, non-retina, desktop Mac, etc. My entire digital life - home and work -is with Apple, so I am not interested in PCs. Help me overthink a plate of pretty, functional, slightly-overpriced beans. [more inside]
I remember something about the X-Files "predicting" the iPad but can't find anything online. Can you help me find this? [more inside]
I sold an iPad on eBay and shipped it to the buyer, who then informed me that it's still locked to my wife's Apple ID. Is there any way I could work with the buyer to unlock it remotely, or does he have to send it back to me?
I may be chasing an imaginary beast, but here goes: I'm looking for an app for my iPad Pro and all its screen real estate that will allow me to take text (whether copied in or written in the app) and link text/graphic files and comments to individual words of the text. Ideally, this will also support Pencil/stylus entry so I can link sketches or handwritten notes to individual words as well. [more inside]
So, my parents have decided to join the rest of us here in the 21st Century and get Internet access and an iPad. As the free technical support of the family, it's fallen on me to get the device up and running and to keep it running. Difficulty level: they do not own a computer. Help me think this through from all angles so I'm not getting daily calls for assistance. [more inside]
My iPad mini is creaking but still useful. However, Safari crashes often (I've noticed it when browsing news sites like independent.co.uk in particular). Have you got any tips for improvements, things I need to check or change in settings or other management? Cheers!
Some weeks ago my iPad 3 screen became full of static lines with a 2 inch wide darker section of static lines. It first occurred when I knocked the (Apple) smart cover off. Returning the smart cover fixed it. Then it happened a second time, a third and now it is completely static. Any programs running underneath were still operating until I did a reset. [more inside]
I want to store my 200GB of photos in the cloud. Only in the cloud. Can you please walk me through this like I'm 5? I want to STORE all my photos somewhere in the cloud - not just a backup of pix on my hard drive, but actually have them live there and only there. I'm having trouble working through the various options I might have because I have specific (maybe impossible?) things I do and do not want to do in the process. [more inside]
Curiosity question: one of my charger cables won't charge my iPad but will charge my iPhone. What could be the cause? [more inside]
Hi all, I have a Lenovo 'PC on a stick'. It runs windows 10 and I would like to use my iPad as a primary display for it using the Duet app on iOS but it seems like in order to connect you have to go in and activate Duet on the PC first - which is a sort of catch 22 because I need a display in order to do that. Any ideas on how I could make Duet 'activate' as soon as the PC boots up and connect to the app on my ipad?
A pretty hard drop on a pretty hard floor has done damage to an iPad screen. Does the damage seem like something fixable by a layperson, such as myself? [more inside]
I like to listen to albums and playlists from my music collection on my iPhone. I don't need a streaming service, or radio, or recommendations, or social networks. I just want a simple user interface that lets me pick out an album (or maybe a playlist) and listen to it. Does such a thing exist for iOS? The built-in music app has gotten way too complicated, and does not work well for me or my family. [more inside]
