Flash memory vs hard drive in a personal media player: do the hard drives have serious reliablility/durablility issues in the portable media players like iPod and Archos? I expect I'll drop the thing a few times (or more), and wouldn't enjoy sending a hard drive model off for expensive repair/replacement. Any thoughts on what percentage of hard drive equipped media players require repair?
Bonus points: what software (preferably freeware) would be able to pull a single frame from the videos I make for the player and print/save it as a jpg? The vids would be mp4, avi, or wmv.

I just managed to delete my entire iTunes library. But I have it on my iPod. Problem is, the iPod is set to auto-update, and if I plug it into a computer with no music on it, it'll all vanish. Help. [more inside]

iPod help: My 5-Gig, Touchwheel iPod is hung and displays the following message: "No battery power remains. Please connect iPod to power." However, the iPod had 2/3s of a charge before it hung and does not accept a charge when I plug it in. I am unable to reset the iPod and it refuses all keyboard input. It has displayed this message for almost two days now. The iPod also does not register in the Finder of either of my computers. Should I buy a new battery or is the iPod dead?

For a radio piece I have to record, I'd like to get a digital recording device that I can hook up to a nice microphone -- something with Flash memory or a hard drive, rather than DAT or minidisc. Can someone recommend one? Some guy at Radio Shack suggested the iPod itself, but it doesn't seem to have a mic jack.
