How to not freak out while waiting to see a doctor?

I have had some weird blood test results lately. My doctor is not sure what it's from, but said that worst case scenario would be leukemia. She wants me to see a hematologist but the soonest available appointment is till over a week away. I have always suffered from pretty severe hypochondria/health-anxiety/whatever, and the fact that my doctor mentioned the L word, and the uncertainty and waiting, not to mention the absolute worst timing, is killing me. I can barely work or sleep. [more inside]

I feel the earth move under my feet: should I see a doctor now?

Do I need to go to the doctor because of a few moments of intense vertigo? I mean, is it an early sign of a brain tumor? Or is it a symptom of something that's going to go away on its own? Anyone have comments on the seriousness of balance loss as a symptom? [more inside]

Phrases & aphorisms to calm the hypochondriac's mind

My roommate has some trouble with related to hypochondria. She has found expressions like the following to be helpful in slowing down her anxious thoughts regarding illness: "You shouldn't be worried if you lose your car keys. You should be worried when you forget what your car keys are for." Does anyone know any similar expressions for when one shouldn't worry about a physical or mental symptom? Obviously all usual disclaimers apply: IANAD, YANM(F's)D, etc, nor does she expect any aphorisms posted to constitute medical advice. [more inside]
