Back in the late 90s, I think in the winter of 1997-8, I saw a stand-up comedian on Conan O'Brien that blew me away but I've never been able to track him down since. I think his name was David Jerusalem. He made jokes about the Olympics and having been a heroin addict. He didn't perform in front of a mic but was interviewed by Conan. I've been trying to find information about this guy for years without success, does my description ring any bells for you? [more inside]

Is there a name for this style of joking? Set-up: Person A asks a question. Punchline: Person B -- by pretending to misunderstand the question -- gives an unexpected response. The Marx Bros used this style a lot, and I see it over and over on "Flight of the Conchords. " ALSO: Can anyone offer further examples of this? Thank you so much! :-)

Can someone identify a British (I assume) musical comedy bit from the 1960s or 1970s that's nothing more than a several minutes-long introduction of the members of the most bizarre band in the world? [more inside]

My most frivolous AskMe ever: OK you Smarty McSmartertons... Where did that type of "name" start. You know... "Mister Blanky McBlankerton." Our upstairs neighbor was bring heavy-footed yesterday, and I was talking to my daughter about it. I referred to him as "Mister Stompy McStomperton." I've heard that kind of thing more and more lately. Where did it originate? [more inside]

There is a sound often played when a character in a comedy does something stupid. I don't know what this is called and am hoping someone can tell me. Here's an example:
In an episode of The Simpsons, Homer attempts to expose a plot to move the Isotopes to Alberquerque. He brings the media in to show them the closet full of merchandise that will reveal the conspiracy. When they walk in, they see a man dressed like a beatnik with a trumpet and some kind of cover. He plays the trumpet and it produces a ...

I've always wanted to know the name of that sound. I'd love to find examples online. It is perhaps my favorite sound ever. ;-)

Where did the theme music to the radio show Paradise Lost in Space, which aired recently on BBC7, come from? It sounds familiar, and I would like to obtain a copy.

My commute to work is roughly 1 hour each way. Now the morning drive isn't so bad because all the radio stations have good talk shows on them. I prefer talk to music since all radio stations play the same 40 songs over and over again. So the drive home kinda sucks. I recently borrowed two standup comedy cd's of David Cross from a friend, and these are perfect for the drive home. Are there any sites that have something similar for free to download and put on my ipod? More specifically stand up routines. I don't want the stuff like Adam Sandler (too much music), but more like 1 hour long shows that got ported over to CD. Any suggestions?
