I just installed some Smart TVs in a weekly rental unit. Will the renters be able to log on and off to their personal accounts, or have I opened Pandora's box ?

We haven't had a proper TV in over a decade. I would like to have something other than my laptop to watch streaming media, DVDs, Netflix, etc. Can you explain how this works in 2013? I imagine we'd buy something like this
Samsung LED HDTV and some kind of speakers. Then what? Do we plug it into a laptop? What exactly is Apple TV and how does it stack up against Roku? This seems like it should be a simple question, but I feel like a caveman emerging from the dark, and am fairly bewildered at all of the options and variations out there.

Is there a full list of the Criterion movies available on Hulu? Hulu recently borked the searching on their website making it impossible to search on directors or genres (or almost anything). You can browse to the Criterion section of but there doesn't seem to be a "show me all the movies" subsection. Is there a 3rd party site actually that lists them all?

I know everybody asks this (and I've read through the previous questions looking for recommendations), but what should I watch next? Preferably on Netflix or Hulu Plus (not web only). In general, I tend to like: mysteries/crime procedurals/law dramas, especially with a quirky twist, and also shows involving a quirky band of misfits (or individual) working outside the law to bring justice to the little people while finding out who done them wrong (e.g. the A-Team, Burn Notice, The Pretender, etc.) I also like heist shows and sci-fi. And occasionally anime.

Is there a site that searches all the flat-rate streaming sites (Netflix, Hulu, and now Amazon prime) for a particular movie/tv show? Or, better, that's like
Instant Watcher for more than Netflix? I realize I can search all the sites separately.

Is it possible to obtain free current movie trailers in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio (i.e. 2.35:1 matted to be 1.78:1)? If I download them from the
Apple site or
Youtube they're 2.35:1 without mattes. This is a problem because I wish to display them on a 16x9 monitor, so they'll stretch out to 1.78:1.

Is there any way to normalize the volume output on my PC so I'm not startled by clicking on a video link? The volume on YouTube and other sites varies so wildly from video to video that my
modus operandi is to mute before I play the video, then slowly increase the volume, but I'm hoping there is a better way.

I came into some hardware I have no other use for, so it's time to try some "media center" software! Yay! Difficulties: Spouse-friendliness is important, I don't know the media center scene very well, the hardware I have isn't all that fancy, and my patience for scouring all the different projects' forums to sort them out is somewhat limited. Can you help me sort out my options and pick something that's close to my requirements?

I live outside the US but I'd like to watch US based content on my Mac from places like
Hulu. Is there an easy Mac application that will seek out a working US proxy and make all the changes? I'm thinking of something with a big on/off I've played with the massive proxy lists- but most of them seem to not be working. I would pay for an easy solution.
