I have an idea for a simple piece of software. It would involve intercepting browser requests, checking the requested url (probably not ip address, so before that conversion takes place) testing the url and redirecting if it passes the test. The test will itself make a network connection. [more inside]

I think the title explains it all:
I'm looking to get a list of all files in a specific directory from a web server- www.site.com/docs/. The thing is, there's an index.htm file in that directory so if I browse to it, I just get the index file. Is there any way to find out the names of all files in that directory, scripting or otherwise? [more inside]

I'd like a picture of just how much bandwidth the various TCP/UDP protocols (FTP, HTTP, NNTP, BitTorrent) take up along some large sample. Percent distributions would be fantastic.
Anyone know where to get this data? My kung-fu helps me not.

What is the easiest way, in Windows, to sniff the HTTP (and HTTPS) requests and responses back from the server for an application that won't let you tell it to use a proxy? [more inside]
