Now that I've gotten a new domain (thanks guys) I want to modernize and streamline my website. I basically want a single page with ' click to expand' photos that looks good on a tablet. Think a nice restaurant website. I have no idea how to do this, my incredibly creaky HTML skills are at least 15 years out of date, and template / design for you sites like Squarespace all want a hosting bundle package. I just want something drop-dead simple that will export an index.htm file at the end. Does this program/service exist? [more inside]
I'm trying to help some art directors deal with the looming demise of Flash banner development (largely driven by Google having Chrome essentially neuter them this Fall). What are some good resources I can share with them to re-align their thinking toward the possibilities and limitations of HTML5? These are designers, not coders, so I'm thinking less about "use Sizzle or Zepto", though they would need to be mindful about what kinds of compositions have more/less efficient payloads than Flash.
I need a quick and dirty run down on working with frameworks in web site design (e.g., Bootstrap, Boilerplate, Bones, etc). Online text &/or video tutorials would be most welcome. I am competent in both HTML and CSS. [more inside]

I'm trying out Captivate 8's new responsive designs and HTML5 output and am very annoyed with how smartphones handle the HTML5 video. For now, I'm setting up alternate, video-free content for the Mobile breakpoint. But the huge size of modern phones means that their landscape viewports are often as wide or wider than the portrait viewports of proper tablets. Is there any way I can set up alternate content based on a device being a phone (popping out video in its own player) versus a tablet (displaying video like a civilized device)? [more inside]
I have a piece of web software in mind which I would like to have created - it's your standard PHP/MySQL webapp, really, but there are probably nifty new technologies which could be used instead of the aforementioned combo. [more inside]

I know of Wix, Squarespace, and Barley. What are some other companies that offer template websites with WYSIWYG-like interfaces? Preferably good template options, an Android app, and e-commerce-able. Each of the above is lacking in one of those areas--for instance, Squarespace has e-commerce and good templates but the Android app blows. Thanks!
I need a pure CSS navigation menu solution for a static, one page application, the simpler the better. [more inside]

I would like to ask a particular YouTube lecture video creator to enable their videos to play back in HTML5, so I can use the variable speed toggle. Currently, all the videos in this channel are flash only. I'd like to include specific instructions in my email, so that if he wants to do this, he doesn't have to go hunting to find out how. But all the instructions I can find are on how a viewer can view videos that already have HTML5 enabled, not how to enable it in the first place. How can one change previously published flash videos on YouTube so they will play back in HTML5?
For a website, I want to have one nav.html file and include it across the site to provide a write-once horizontal navbar at the top of each page. Is there a way of doing this without server-side stuff like PHP? [more inside]
I remember a site where you load it up and it says something simple, like "I like tea". And then you click tea and it expands so it says "I like really good tea." And then you can click other words, over and over, until there's finally a whole paragraph. Love the site. Can't remember where it is. Can anyone remember?
I am looking for a method of displaying a list item's parent number in a list with nested sublists, in the way sections of a document would be displayed. Example:
... 8. Defining Custom Counter Styles: the ‘@counter-style’ rule 8.1. Counter algorithms: the ‘type’ descriptor 8.1.1. repeating 8.1.2. numeric ...I'd like to use only the ol and li tags and CSS styling, but HTML lists will only display the number of the current node. Thoughts? [more inside]
For the first time a long while, one of my clients is having a complete site redesign and I want to get up-to-speed on the latest technologies. I also just got a adobe creative cloud subscription so I'm kinda excited to play with the new toys - particularly interested in phone gap but that's more "personal use" than relevant to the site rebuild [more inside]
I have a large graphic (say, 20 screens' worth, vertically scrolling) that is full of text that needs the image to be viewed at full size to read. When putting this on a website, I'd like much of this text on the image to be clickable, i.e. linked. I'd prefer not to use the HTML map tag or Flash, and I'm no coder. Is there a web service that could make this easier? [more inside]
I am a beginner in information technology, and I need to learn HTML5. For me to start learning HTML5, I need to know what languages/codes that I should know to start working in HTML5. I know HTML5 are used for webpages, mobile, games, and others. For example, I knew that I should be familiar with CSS3 So what are other basic information and skills needed to learn before starting with HTML5? Thanks

Help me get my Web 2.x (or are we on 3.x now? I've lost track) on. I'm an old-school Web 1.0 developer who wants to kickstart himself into slightly more modern UI and user experience paradigms, and I have a project in mind (of course). The challenge? No expensive tools. [more inside]

I have a form with some html5 date input fields. I use the jquery UI datepicker to get it working on browsers that don't support type="date". Everything's lovely in IE and Firefox. Chrome is behaving oddly. It displays both the jquery datepicker and (I assume) its own html5 picker. It won't display the value I'm giving it correctly, and whatever you put in the input (using the chrome picker because it won't accept input from the jquery one...) it returns 0/0/00. Help!

I'm with a buddy working on his Tumblr page. We've noticed more and more visits from iOS devices and this shuts them out of his audio posts because Tumblr uses Flash. Is there any way around this with html5 plugins that support Tumblr and actually do? I am googled out with this. So much conflicting information. With so many visits from iPads (especially), it seems there has to be a way. Any help would be appreciated. As always, thanks in advance!

PDF-filter: I'm running a website that allows users to upload files. I'm looking for a converter that would allow User B to view a files uploaded by User A, even if User B doesn't have the same software used to develop the file. My guess is converting everything (that's not a simple image) to PDF would work, but my Google-fu is failing me and I can't find a PHP script or Apache module that will do this. [more inside]
What IDEs, editors, or general tools do people use to do web development? I'm a linux geek, so my tool of choice is gVim. But I'm teaching a course on this right now and don't want to inflict my prejudices on the students, and I'd like a broader perspective. So if you're a web developer, what do you use? NetBeans, Notepad? Something in-between?
