I have a large graphic (say, 20 screens' worth, vertically scrolling) that is full of text that needs the image to be viewed at full size to read. When putting this on a website, I'd like much of this text on the image to be clickable, i.e. linked. I'd prefer not to use the HTML map tag or Flash, and I'm no coder. Is there a web service that could make this easier?

I am a beginner in information technology, and I need to learn HTML5.
For me to start learning HTML5, I need to know what languages/codes that I should know to start working in HTML5.
I know HTML5 are used for webpages, mobile, games, and others.
For example, I knew that I should be familiar with CSS3
So what are other basic information and skills needed to learn before starting with HTML5?
Thanks

I'm scheduled for a technical interview after the weekend for a front-end development position. I'd like to spend some intensive time beforehand reading relevant blogs and books to prime the ol' noodle and supplement my existing knowledge. Could you recommend some resources? Are there questions you would ask an applicant in this situation, or that you have been asked?

Help me get my Web 2.x (or are we on 3.x now? I've lost track) on. I'm an old-school Web 1.0 developer who wants to kickstart himself into slightly more modern UI and user experience paradigms, and I have a project in mind (of course). The challenge? No expensive tools.

I have a form with some html5 date input fields. I use the jquery UI datepicker to get it working on browsers that don't support type="date".
Everything's lovely in IE and Firefox. Chrome is behaving oddly. It displays both the jquery datepicker and (I assume) its own html5 picker. It won't display the value I'm giving it correctly, and whatever you put in the input (using the chrome picker because it won't accept input from the jquery one...) it returns 0/0/00.

I'm with a buddy working on his Tumblr page. We've noticed more and more visits from iOS devices and this shuts them out of his audio posts because Tumblr uses Flash. Is there any way around this with html5 plugins that support Tumblr and actually do? I am googled out with this. So much conflicting information. With so many visits from iPads (especially), it seems there
has to be a way. Any help would be appreciated.
As always, thanks in advance!

I'm a largely self-taught web designer (HTML/CSS/design) with fairly basic but competent enough programming skills (PHP/Javascript/Python) to do simple development and be able to understand roughly what's going on when I work with developers. What are some good things to learn (libraries, techniques, math?) in order to do more interactive and dynamic things on the web, particularly when it comes to data visualization?

I need to build a map on a webpage that acts pretty much just like google maps (zoomable, scrollable, pins that have popups (with hyperlinks) when clicked) but it's not a physical map. It'll look more like an org chart. Are there any javascript packages out there that do this?

PDF-filter: I'm running a website that allows users to upload files. I'm looking for a converter that would allow User B to view a files uploaded by User A, even if User B doesn't have the same software used to develop the file. My guess is converting everything (that's not a simple image) to PDF would work, but my Google-fu is failing me and I can't find a PHP script or Apache module that will do this.

What IDEs, editors, or general tools do people use to do web development? I'm a linux geek, so my tool of choice is gVim. But I'm teaching a course on this right now and don't want to inflict my prejudices on the students, and I'd like a broader perspective. So if you're a web developer, what do you use? NetBeans, Notepad? Something in-between?

I'm trying to get my head round the wealth of technologies available for creating "Rich" internet applications - featuring sound, graphics, interaction, animation - specifically from the client side. Flash, ActionScript, Silverlight, Expression, JavaFX, Java, HTML5, JavaScript, JQuery... In particular, I'm looking for the long view, preferably from people working in the field: what skills do you think you will you be looking for in new recruits a few years from now? And why?

How do I serve a .manifest file as "type text/cache-manifest" using Yahoo small business webhosting? I have created the manifest file and uploaded it to the server. I have declared the manifest file in the index.html, but I don't think the mime-type is recognized. Yahoo doesn't allow ht access files to be uploaded either. (I am trying to write my first web-app for the iPhone) Thanks for any guidance!
