Does two weeks notice include time spent on jury duty?

If a person gives two weeks notice at a job, but those two weeks include potential jury duty, should you extend the two weeks notice to, say, three? Or is two weeks sufficient, since the employer still gets the full two weeks to find a replacement, whether I'm there or not?

How to address spelling in HR questionnaire

A job I recently applied for responded to me with a questionnaire about my experience in certain areas. After filling out the questionnaire and emailing it back to the company's HR Rep I realized I misspelled a fairly common word, it was a stupid typo I somehow missed. I've been beating myself up over this, wondering what to do. Send an email with a new corrected copy? Ignore it? Let them know I found the mistake and apologize? [more inside]

Is my new tardiness policy fair?

I am seeking feedback on the fairness of a new tardiness policy I instituted at my company. I own an IT services firm that also has a retail storefront (the more traditional computer repair shop model). We have had a situation with chronic tardiness, to the point where on a recent Saturday, at three minutes before opening, I was the only one there (whereas four people were scheduled that day). I have now instituted what I believed to be a fair and generous policy, and some don't like it as they say it is too strict. Please read on for the policy... [more inside]

What if you miss the Cup?

HR/YANML filter: One of my assistants had an on-the-job injury today, and at the hosptial, they failed to give her the pee test drug screening that our company requires. She's concerned that they may use that as basis for claiming that she refused the test, and therefore will be on her own for the expense. I don't feel like this is the case, but I wanted someone with a more informed answer to help me reassure her. So, do they have the burden of proof if they claim she refused? How long after the event can they require it?
