I've been learning new skills at my company that are far outside of my current job description. I've long ago realized that there's going to be a need for someone to take on these responsibilities beyond the one person we have now. And the time seems to be approaching! Please help me work through this and nail the salary re-negotiations.

On my resume, I fudged the end date for my last job by six weeks, to cover up a bad situation where I was not at fault. A new company has given me an offer, checked my references, and sent me all the new hire paperwork. I'm supposed to start in two weeks. Only problem? I had to consent to a background check. Now I'm concerned that my lie will be uncovered. What do I do?

I'm wondering about what measures can be taken to increase gender diversity in male-dominated workplaces. For women who work in male-dominated fields - how did your company's culture contribute to creating an appealing work environment for you? What can be done to build and foster this kind of culture?

Tell them my salary or politely decline? On Friday, I learned about a job opportunity though an ex-colleague who would be my new boss. This person told me they're eager to fill the position and asked what salary I'm looking for. I ducked the salary question and, at their urging, applied online yesterday. Today I get a one-sentence email from an HR rep asking my current salary. I know salary negotiation has been covered on AskMeFi before, but I haven't seen this particular variation. No interview has happened. Doesn't salary talk usually happen later on? I have no idea how much this position pays, benefits, etc.; it could be better or worse than my current gig. The prospective position is grant-funded with a City agency. (Side question: are grant-funded positions risky?)

Is blunt criticism a warning for being fired? I work in a small office where 3 mistakes (mainly numerical errors) I made have been called embarrassing in a 5 month period. This is not a financial sector job. Yes I make more than 1 mistake a month, but what's bothering me is that this specific word has been used by the 3 people I work with most.
