I own a home in the mountains of WNC. It is large and old (1895) and in fair condition. Fortunately, (and unfortunately), it is in an area that is experiencing a lot of influx by wealthy folks fleeing whatever. It is time to begin thinking about my next life.

I'm working on becoming a better person in all aspects of life. One area that I severely lack in is being friendly to the environment. I would like to start off small and began recycling everyday household trash. But how do I begin? Is there a straight forward newbie guide to recycling? What other small steps can I take that would have a big impact on the environment?

How did Kubrick film the psychedelic 'stargate' sequence of "2001: A Space Odyssey"? Some of the movie's special effects are obviously crude CGI (like the cockpit displays during spacecraft rendezvous) but the ending seems far more sophisticated. Regular old animation? Looks too... digital. Articles on 'the making of' I've seen never discuss this all-important visual (although it's cool knowing about the spinning set used for example in the jogging scene).
