My houseguest will be staying for weeks but doesn't have spending money

I agreed to let a friend from out of the country stay with me for almost a month this summer, but now that the visit is getting closer, she has been mentioning that she doesn't have any spending money. Help me make sure this doesn't become my problem! [more inside]

How to interact with an unfamiliar new resident in my parents home?

A lovely, college-aged young woman who has had a very rough year is coming to live with my parents, whom I visit several times a year, often for extended periods of time (I live 900 miles away, but I'm a student with long vacations). I think this is great. However, I feel a little at sea for how to interact with her, and to prepare for this change, especially given the giant elephant in the room: the horrible event that happened which has caused her to need a new home. Can I stay the night at a friend's house? What are the rules?

I'm not sure I ever really learned the rules of when it is OK to stay the night at someone's house (non-romantic). This is my roommate from last spring semester. I Facebooked her a few weeks ago to say I was swinging by town on the way to my parents and if she wanted to hangout. She said yes and offered me a place to stay for the night. I mentioned I was going to stay in a hotel room. She said that if I change my mind, I can stay with her. [more inside]

Mother May I Sleep With Danger

Wedding week, visiting parents, close quarters: my parents helped me buy the apartment my fiance and I live in. They'd like to stay on our couch for three nights before the wedding. I love them, like spending time with them, and would want them to stay with us... any other week except this one! Am I being a jerk? [more inside]

What's the middle ground between "F.U!" and "Welcome!"?

One of my wife's distant friends has attempted to invite herself to stay with us, again. She did this last March, and we used the excuse of me starting a new job and needing to do x, y, and z as well as the "out of town" excuse for any remaining dates. This got us off scot-free, but we both knew the time would come again... and it's here. We need a final solution. [more inside]
